We need a right back. For all the people that want Smith sacked, how can his sacking be justified considering how little he has in terms of resources?

He and the BoD agreed to go full time and a budget was agreed, if he wasn't happy with the depth of squad that would give him he should have spoken up at the time. Also the last interview with Sim he mentioned that funds were available for loan signings and it was up to Smith when he used them, Smith even said so himself and that he would only take players who would improve the squad.

So whilst he has made what appears to be some decent signings so far, he continues to play the same formation when his squad is top heavy with midfielders and attackers. If he wanted defenders he should have bloody signed some or use the loan market that is available to him.

Would agree we need two more signings and one has to be a right winger. However, I think the other has to be full back cover. It’s a big ask for Watson to come in and play 36 games at a high standard having barely played before this season.

Talking of which, any word on the injuries to Bene and Matthews or is it emergency loan time?

Heard the guys on the radio praising Zanatta yesterday, now on loan at Alloa, also commented that he must be the most loaned player in Scotland  even wee Boaby scored for Dumbarton yesterday. Just waiting for Spence to go on a run of banging them in

  3. Smiths' inability to play anything but 4-4-2 makes us so easy to play against. Same formation week in week out with an occasional change in personnel which makes no difference to our style of play. We do not have the best players in this league therefore constantly banging out the same formation is ridiculous, if our players were head and shoulders above everyone else then it would make sense but, as it is, Smith really has to start thinking outside of his very small box.

We have the players to go 3 at the back  so why the hell does he not try that, at home at least? With 5 in the middle we certainly have the guys to move the ball around quickly and Watson could easily play right wing, his delivery is improving with every game.

I think a better manager would look at this squad and immediately change the way we play, BS doesn't have that in his locker. And I don't buy that this is his team this season, he couldn't change it last season and I can't see him changing it this season either, in fact I don't think we will do as well as last season unless he changes his thinking.

If Sim can find the money, I can see the Stranraer game in October being his last

  4. I found it very frustrating game to watch, we played some great high tempo, quick passing football but only for very short spells and with no real end result. Again BS has given Buchanan an hour before bringing Milne on, if Milne is to get any kind of partnership with Nisbet then surely it has to be the other way round as clearly Buchanan's best days are behind him. East Fife's midfield supported their forwards faster and more efficiently than we did allowing them greater spells of pressure, Gillespie and Wedderburn need to work harder on that but Nat often sits too deep, I'd like to see him bombing into the box more, he is a big unit and frighten defences.

For a change, I wasn't in the South stand yesterday so maybe those of you that were can tell me why we were so shot shy, we had the ball in some good areas but perhaps they were closed down too quick?

I think in Nisbet and Flanagan could be two very good signings for us, Watson improves every game and McKay, Murray and Bene look solid enough but did struggle with organisation at times. As a right winger, Matthews brings nothing to the game, so I think he could easily go 3 at the back and play Watson on the wing instead with Matthews, Gillespie and Wedderburn in the middle, Flanagan on the left.

Another problem is still the front two, I don't know if Buchanan is carrying a knock but he looks done to me physically and mentally, he seems to have no passion or desire for the game. Time to start with Milne and Nisbet up front, see if they can form a partnership and give Buchanan 15-20 mins at the end  rather than the other way round.

There is certainly some potential in this squad, whether or not BS can get them to realise that is another matter. Somehow he has to calm them down, they look too nervous and lack composure for long periods.

Our 2nd pen wasn't a pen but it made up for the one we should've had earlier which was, there's was never a pen either never mind a yellow card, Agnews strike for their 2nd was excellent, no blame on Wright as he looked unsighted and why did we not have someone on the edge of the box anyway? Again,, lack of organisation.

Like I said, frustrating watch, I'll away and get my flame proof vest on now in readiness.

Are you talking about the League Cup or Challenge Cup? I thought a specific event had happened that prompted the earlier post but, if you are referring to the Challenge Cup, I completely agree. They’ve fucked it.

Irn Bru Cup, or whatever it is called these days. Farce of a competition. How the SPFL can say it's exciting for fans I have no idea. In days where every pound is a prisoner they are expecting clubs like Formartine to travel to Ireland, Dunfermline have to travel to Surrey, which is all well and good because there is a small fund to help clubs out but what about the supporters?

First game of the season down at Stranraer the crowd was 424, 120 of us Rovers fans, ok so that's Stranraer a bit fecked but with club league attendances in decline, what is the chance of any kind of decent turnout for these daft ties?

As per usual, the SPFL is totally disregarding the fans participation in Scottish football outside of the old firm.

It won't cost £700000 to replace the pitch as all the ground work as been done its only the carpet that would replaced.

:oops aye, brain fart, forgot about all the other guff underneath, hope it lasts well. £150k for Least Fife replacement wow, by the state of it I would have though they would get 10 for that

I thought the pitch looked superb as well, very pleasantly surprised.

If it keeps up like that then certainly a major improvement.

I believe that, if properly maintained, it should remain fairly constant for 5-7 years and would have a life expectancy of approx 10 years based on a max usage of 30-40 hours per week. The board just need to squirrel away about £75 grand a year for the next 10 years so they can replace it in 2028

Result flattered us, Buchanan was shite again 4 offsides in the first half, dwells on the ball and poor passing, slightly better when he came slightly deeper 2nd half. Matthews was awful looked scared of the ball and shirked all but one tackle that I remember. Gillespie is brilliant or woeful by equal measure. Nisbet needs more stenth, Watson will improve but needs to work on his crossing. Bene, McKay and Murray were solid enough, Flanagan, with the right service, will destroy defenses at this level, Wedderburn - no idea, can't work him out seems to take 30 mins to get into the game then can be as frustrating as Gillespie. Milne was better than last week when he came on. Wright nearly gifted a goal with sloppy play, he may have come from a big team but wee teams can still make him look a twat if he doesn't concentrate.

Stenny hit the woodwork a few times and probably had more shots on target than we did. I'm sure we will improve and if we can get through these next few weeks without any devastation we might be okay.

Not sure if it was the new surface but I wouldn't be surprised if Flanagan and Nisbet joined the injury list next week, Flanagan seemed to be struggling with a thigh issue and Nisbet was stretching his back just before the 2nd goal.

    Fortuitous 3pts but taken gratefully

Non negative bits highlighted in green for you as you clearly missed them.

BBC stats have Attempts on goal Raith 8, Stenny 9, I was wrong to say we had more shots on target however so hold my hands up to that.

I stand by my OP and if you disagree then that is your prerogative, perhaps you were getting a pie when they hit the bar in the first half with a cross come shot, bloody sure everyone else in the south stand saw it judging by reactions..

I have no doubt this team will improve, when the pitch beds in and they slicken up a bit, if we keep the ball on the deck then I can see us doing pretty well.

I just called it as I saw it

Are you for real?! After all the guff that was served up last season, today was excellent in parts! Some of the link up play and one touch football was great to finally see! Flanagan had a great game! My motm! Nisbet done well too. Won a lot of balls and held/linked play well! Took the penalty really well as well as his second goal. Apart from Stenny hitting the woodwork, what else did they do? Had a lot of the ball but severely lacked a killer instinct. So I can’t really see how we were so fortuitous.

Don’t get why so many rovers fans only look for the negatives. Especially when there were plenty of positives there to see today

    Yup, I'm for real.

When we, on  one or two occasions, got the ball on the deck, we did indeed look good but that wa what 3% maybe 5% the rest was hoofball and that is down to the players not sticking to the game plan or lacking the ability to do so. Nissy took the pen excellently and I was glad to see he refuse to hand the ball over. As for looking for negatives, that is all you hae done with my post.

Were you happy with the abject performances from Buchanan, Matthews and Wedderburn, Wright nearly getting caught out again by being Billy big boots. Did you even see the instructions being passed by BS to his team which were largely being ignored (cue arms in the air in frustration).

Murray was my MotM, probably the most consistent player we have and, for what its worth, last years 'guff' was far superior to what I witnessed at Stranraer and today.

In one of our most positive moves this summer, McHattie is off to Derry City in Ireland so won't be re-signing with us.

Thank the Lord and pass the gravy, what a waste of space he was.

Not convinced this young keeper is the quality player BS was holding out for on the loan deals, smacks of pure panic to me.  Something is seriously fucked up with the club just now, Sim says he is not the greatest communicator and BS is too quiet , perhaps time to lock the two of them in a room until they have a constructive discussion  or a fist fight, whichever is most productive.

I sat behind the dugout at the cowden game no player gave a shit what Smith was saying and Davo more or less told him to f**k off.

I alluded to this on Fantalk, my concern was that Davo had too much influence especially with the young boys. Then again if Smith can't stand up to Davo then he certainly should not be in the job, respect is a two way street.

As for injuries, well they happen, even in training, it just so happens that it is hitting us harder because, instead of a part time squad of 20+ we have a full time squad of about 17. Training injuries, in the main, are down to poor preparation and monitoring, in that case the management team are culpable.
