  1. "any rational person" = "we all know". slam dunk.
  2. Regina v Regina. The long awaited sequel to Kramer v Kramer.
  3. Johnson now goes to ground - using the strictest interpretation of the Covid self isolating rules at this moment in time. Truly laughable if it weren't so tragic. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jan/13/boris-johnson-cancels-visit-to-vaccine-centre-as-relative-tests-positive-for-covid
  4. basically, the belief now is that a spin can be put on everything, absolutely anything, no matter how contemptible or criminal. That is frightening. And still millions would return to the ballot box tomorrow and vote for "Boris"., including many Scottish Tories/unionists despite how they are thought of or treated by those they are voting for. That is even more frightening.
  5. I like this but the intro messages on twitter always make it for me. "can't breathe".
  6. on seeing the incumbent at no10 sink to unimaginable (even for him) levels of deceit and embarrassment, it is important to put that into persecutive and a post about a Shetland pony just about does it. Cap doffed.
  7. The lines between what constitutes a restaurant and a "pub" are quite blurred now - 10 years or so ago it was easier to make the distinction. With cafes and gastro pubs etc hospitality has completely changed. Around the West End of Glasgow I wouldn't take my dog into say Nando's (nor would he be allowed I don't believe) or Ka Pao but would take him into places like Ubiquitous Chip, Brel, The Finnieston and Paesanos. Think the change is noticeable in coffee shop chains where dogs are now allowed into the likes of Pret and Starbucks when a few years ago they had big "no dig except service dog" signs on their doors.
  8. It is not as if the dug is working in the kitchen. And Brel as is the case with the majority of similar places (ie cafe/bars/gastro pubs) on Ashton Lane, on Byres Road and around the West End, is dog friendly. Rule of thumb these days is to assume dogs are allowed unless stated otherwise - it's the way of hospitality these days and am all for it.
  9. I very likely do not frequent the same social media circles and boards as Spongeheid (with the obvious exception of this one), and therefore cannot say the following with absolute certainty - but I would suggest that to add to this achievement, he doesn't merely forward the memes on but actually takes the time and effort to make some of them himself.
  10. of course there isn't and at 36, a couple of years left to give. Wonder how many posters would turn down £3k - £5k a week because of how a few others may perceive them And I have seen Jordan Archer play twice in the past couple of seasons - Marshall easily the number 2 there. I haven't seen their number 1 to offer an opinion on their relative merits.
  11. revisiting the superb The Mandalorian and just noticed the Season 2 Episode 1 appearance of Boba Fett. I know it was his armour that they bargained but missed this end of episode sighting at the time. And of course his sighting in conjunction with the pact with mining village pact the Tusken Raiders coincides neatly with the first couple of Boba Fett episodes - presumably will lead up to his (re)appearance later on in The Mandalorian Season 2. Obviously a number of synergies between the two shows and whilst I am enjoying Fett so far it hasn't grabbed me in the first couple of episodes the way The Mandalorian did. Still plenty of time.
  12. there is a significant contributing factor for that happening more and more that you appear to have glossed over
  13. that is my point - it doesn't need to be a correct accent!! What it doesn't need to be is French people portrayed as speaking French (even though it is in English) speaking like someone from 'allo 'allo. There are lots of articles about this - its is not about suspension of disbelief it is the almost constant use of a trope that doesn't make any sense that is my bug-bear. https://patenttranslator.wordpress.com/2015/07/20/the-incredible-inauthenticity-of-fake-foreign-accents-in-american-movies/ - Why is it that in American movies set in foreign, far-away and exotic countries (such as communist Czechoslovakia or Nazi Germany), actors whose first language is English are forced to adopt a fake foreign accent?
  14. you're not understanding my point but no worries as I probably haven't explained it very well. and those who consider Worf to be a Terran - maybe he is. Shine a light in his eye.
  15. thats not the point though - Picard speaks to the bridge and the crew in English and many French people speak perfect English without a hint of an accent.
  16. yes, Iannucci should had insisted that the actors, whose characters were all speaking Russian, deliver their lines in English in stereotypical Russian accents. That would have made it far more realistic for some.......
  17. and that is the best way to go - I struggle to understand why some films insist on characters who are speaking to each other in a local language, delivering their (English) dialogue in an archetypal stereotypical accent commonly associated with that country. Valkyrie was clever in that Cruise kicked off speaking German, the camera panned in close to his mouth and then panned back, with him still talking but now in English. And then everyone spoke English from then onwards in their own accents, regardless of what that accent was (if I remember correctly). Death of Stalin did something similar. At the same time you have something like Black Widow where they are all speaking Russian to each other at various points in English delivered with the stereotypical accent of a Russian speaking English. a confusing process to wrap heads around, my own included, but grinds my gears nonetheless!
  18. what kind of stuff did the Rev post on football? OF or TA type stuff?
  19. just to add on the back of your addition/edit, it is about cutting down on the number of times people use cars and making cities more people friendly and making people the priority. We are still stuck in a 60s mindset where car is king and motorists are VIPs that need to take priority over everything else. There will still be a need an exception for those who need a car to get from A to B due to a disability - that shouldn't be cited as a factor or barrier in seeking to rid city centres of the majority of cars.
  20. a bike or specialist bike is cheaper than a car and cheaper to maintain. Govt grants for mobility also in place. Improving the infrastructure can be expensive but again central grants in place and also with a medium to longer term approach, less cars and more bikes, mean less costly road maintenance required. The approach to making people and green transport a priority for cities, and the benefits that bring, are not primarily around funding though of course it is a consideration - the biggest obstacle is mindset.
  21. loads of specialist bikes. and cycling infrastructures in town are largely compatible with wheelchairs - much more so in many cases than existing pavements.
  22. Less cars and more bikes will make cities and the surrounding environment more pleasant for everyone. Unless you're a taxi driver or a nutter.
