I see the Aberdeen nine are to be allowed back in.Good to see the coalition partners together again.

never in any doubt. The only concern was when to announce it so it could largely be buried. the Brexit shambles coming to a head as best a time as any.  Labour and Tories free to align themselves in coalition as they see fit - as if anyone would be surprised at such an arrangement.......

The point was the use of the phrase "could of" which is becoming all too common among the illiterate these days.

And as for actually saying it......

ah, your concern is more about the grammar that is used rather than the substance of the debate. You could fill an A4 page every programme when Ian Wright or a lot of footballers/ex footballers utters something that is grammatically incorrect. They shift through the tenses whilst debating the same clip never mind anything else......

When asked “Watford could have had a penalty?”, Ian Wright replied with “yes they could of”.

Pundits now as illiterate as the punters.

its as redundant as "I've seen them given" or "there was definitely contact".

rarely does anyone suggest the extent of the contact needs to be a consideration. or who initiated contact. And just because a penalty was given previously by an incompetent official doesn't mean that it is a reasonable response to reference that.

laser sharp analysis and the majority of viewers seem quite happy with that bland analysis/thickness from Shearer and Wright. Jenas and to a lesser extent Murphy far far better on MoTD.

  4. I haven't seen a replay of it but I think Robertson told the Scotland players not to kick the ball out when an Israeli player hit the ground theatrically and remained there. Scotland were in the ascendancy and I believe it was Robertson who made the tackle and won the ball - thus knowing the true extent of the "injury".

If I have recalled correctly and didn't imagined this, then that's a good decision by the captain.

(as an aside I don't believe the ball should be kicked out by the opposition (or returned) for any injury in football). Up to the ref and even then applied so inconsistently.

I reckon that might be photoshopped - sun's in the same position and the trees haven't grown in four years. Also it may be that the photos were taken on the same day to show the 'expected' losses during the battle. Although that's not much of a morale booster so the second faked photo may show the death toll by December 2014, not the end of the war. Percentage wise, far fewer actually died than is commonly perceived.

my first thought was were the Cameron Highlanders the only outfit alert to the lasting impact of "before" and "after" shots......

Don't always agree with Michael Stewart in terms of his view of the game and opinion on players, however when he's surrounded by the idiots that appear on that show it's funny listening to him tie them in knots. Not that that's particularly difficult, but he highlights just how clueless most footballers are about the game. Scott McDonald saying tonight deliberate handball doesn't have to be deliberate was a highlight.

to be fair, Michael Stewart said something equally stupid and contradictory in arguing his case on Sportscene (re the McHugh penalty/sending off).....

  7. like all the Marvel Netflix shows, there is too much padding and too many redundant conversations. I think Daredevil is the best of all the Marvel Netflix shows and when it is good it is excellent but I feel needs to be either 20 mins shorter per episode or reduced the season to a 6/7 episode run.....

  8. I like it that they have removed Ray from the Hollywood setting. Seeing him in a grittier NY setting is quite refreshing - they should have done this a few seasons ago......

I'd be interested in hearing what remakes are better than the original. Only one I can think of is Scarface but I'm sure there will be more.

The Beat That My Heart Skipped, Munich and The Departed are three that spring to mind. I can't think of any others off the top of my head right now.

in no particular order (and some controversial choices I concede):

Heat; The Departed; Let The Right One In; Assault on Precinct 13; True Grit; The Fly; The Thomas Crown Affair; The Force Awakens :); 12  Monkeys; Oceans 11; The Italian Job; Taking of Pelham 123.....there are more....

With say something like Assault on Precinct 13, I love John Carpenter but with a lot of films of that period, I find the pacing terrible. Whereas the remake may not be as fresh or as interesting, the more tighter pacing really makes it a better movie for me. If they had just used Carpenter's score in the remake it would have been a lot better. Of course to even class Carpenter's Assault as an original, I am glossing over the Rio Bravo/Rio Lobo/E Dorado debate. Is Assault a homage, has been influenced or is in fact remake of the Hawks westerns?

I rarely know too much going into a show. I've never cared about showrunners and stuff like that. Cast might come into it. This time with Mike Flanagan doing The Haunting of Hill House, it might have made a difference, but for the most part, I just don't care who's doing what.

sure but if you see someone like Shonda Rhimes' name attached to a show it is best to run a mile. Hence why I try and get a little background info beforehand.....

No TV show can ever be judged on a first episode. No matter how bad a pilot is, I'll always continue. Can't understand even thinking of chucking it after one. Especially in a show with one story running over 10 episodes.

I think that only applies if you know a bit about it and there is something that attracts you to it to begin with ie a writer, an actor or producer etc. Otherwise I know within 20 mins of watching something whether I should continue based on premise, quality of writing and production value. Pilot into commission is not going to have a significant impact on any of those......
