  1. Pleased with Roberts if he comes onboard as I still think we are lacking good attacking options from the bench. To me, Roberts would at the very least a great guy to bring on from the bench, I liked him last year. I am guessing the business today is going to be Johansen, Roberts and possibly Gotts. It wouldn't surprise me if we see 1 or 2 going out loan. Cornelius perhaps. It will be interesting to see what our starting line-up looks like in a months time. I'm getting the vibes that the likes of Ojala, Johansen and Goss will be first team so I'm not sure where that leaves a few folk. Overall, I'd say I'm happy to see folk come in that I think could be first team players rather than squad filler. Clearly I'm basing that on hee haw other than my perception but I don't think someone with 30 odd caps for Finland has come to sit behind Rickie Lamie. I can sense a terrifying back 3 of Mugabi, Ojala and Johansen and I'm not sad bout it!
  2. I'm honestly fine with Goss coming in. From R*ngers fans I have spoken to he wasn't as bad as some have made out. Most have alluded to him having decent creatively and being quite gifted technically. Main negative was he seemed to fall out of games a lot. All a matter of opinion I guess but I think there is certainly something there. I am quite curious what this means for our central midfield. I would imagine that Slattery has come up as a nailed on starter. If he's playing with Goss I'm not sure the midfield will have enough bite to it even when paired with someone like O'Hara who is more physical. Donnelly might be ahead of Goss in the pecking order but to be honest I've not really been that impressed by his start to the season. Obviously you have the likes of Grimmy but I'm not sure if GA will see him as a starter in front of Goss. I'm definitely in favour of us having more footballers in the team but I'm just concious that we are lacking a bit of dig in the middle of the park at times.
  3. Admittedly I've been too lazy to read the New York Times article but I'd be surprised if it was very easy to get a work permit for Sondre Johansen. Ojala had caps but from the limited research I've done on this boy he has played with a relegation fighting Norweigan team for a number of years. Can anyone shed any light, i know there i some type of points system based on the league he is coming from etc? Edit: Just to add, I'm fully on board with the Scandinavian Shagger signing policy. Even if we get pumped atleast he will look good doing it.
  4. When we were sitting in a bleak full lockdown with no crowds listening to Jock Brown, the atmosphere yesterday was exactly what i dreamt of. For me yesterday encapsulated everything I had been missing about the proper fitbaw. I'd usually be pretty pissed off at losing that but the game was honestly some buzz. So good to be properly back. My expectations of the team were pretty low going into the game and I was really pleasantly surprised by the performance Hightlights KVV was unreal, puts himself about and tekkers is outstanding. Maybe needs to calm his jets a wee bit at times right enough but part of the package Maguire really played well. I had voiced my reservations about him being first team quality but if he plays like that he has a good chance Slattery was really impressive. I think he could be a sound addition To be honest I think we ran out of steam in the 2nd half after putting so much into the game, I think the fitness/lack of games for some began to show. If we strengthen in the areas we are all taking about I think we will be absolutely fine.
  5. The bottom line for me is we need probably atleast 4 or 5 first team player in the door ASAP. The SPFL starts next week, I'm all for being patient but we can't be weeks into the season and still trying to get half a team to gel together. I think we need atleast 2 experienced centre midfielders and 2 centre backs for starters. Of these 4, a couple need to have some sort of leadership qualities because this is lacking at the moment. As I said after the last game, I would also like us to try another formation perhaps some form of 442, I don't think the 433 is working particularly well. As far as other issues go, I think Tony Watt has looked miles off it fitness wise in the last couple of games. I've always thought he's 'naturally unfit' and he has alluded to this himself before so hopefully it will just take him a couple of extra games to get going. I thought some of the groans at SOD were well OTT last night, he didn't have a good game but I think you could say that about 9 or 10 of our players. As pissed off as I was at full time, I couldn't say it was about any individuals in particular more the full team. My biggest annoyance last night was us consistently firing long/diagonals ball across the pitch when there was space to play. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come because I really don't think we have the players for this type of football.
  6. It was great to be back on Saturday, thoroughly enjoyed the game to be honest. I got put in the main stand (where I don't usually sit) so I found it interesting to get a different perspective on the game. With the lower crowd you could pretty much hear eveything that was getting said between the manager and players. It felt to me like a lot of the boys were very much still getting used to how eachother play which is normal at this stage but I would hope we will add a few in the next week to give the team a chance of gelling together before too many league games have been played. Lawless, KVV and Woolery all looked lively. I don't really see Woolery as an actual striker and am starting to think its more likely he will play out wide in a starting front 3 of Watt - KVV - Woolery. I'm not really sure you get the best out of Watt out wide, always seen him more of a central deep lying striker in my book but will be interesting to see how it plays out. I would be quite keen to see another formation trialled at some point in these cup games, Watt and KVV playing as a two sounds appealing! Central midfield is my main area of concern just now. I'm always an advocate of young players being given the chance but I'm still not really convinced Maguire is at the level to be a starter with us. I mean he's okay but I would really like to see a couple of experieneced boys coming in to challenge him. Cornelius and Crawford are very much bench players IMO. Looking forward to a wee trip to Airdrie in the sun on Wednesday
  7. Managed to get a ticket for Airdrie, #500 odd so if anyone is interested there appears to be a couple of hundred left. At £12 a pop I'm sure they will be sold out in the next few days. I wonder what propa nutters will be out in force in Airdrie town centre on Wednesday evening. As much as Airdrie are scum they did make me laugh with this one at Hearts last year. Looking forward to see what selection of banner they have in store..
  8. We made Queens Park look a right good team last night. Tbf I think they have improved and had a fair bit of investment in the last year but we looked way off the mark. Some of the boys look like they badly need more minutes which is I guess is what you would expect to some extent. We look okay in certain positions but I'd suggest we need atleast a few boys still who can go straight into the starting 11. It sounds like the recruitment is going to take longer than previous years and I'm alright with that as long as we have a decent squad together for the start of the league season. I thought O'Connor was the main positive last night from last night, he looked pretty good on the ball and fairly assured etc Looking forward to finally getting back into the stadium albeit with 2k. Let's hope the clubs and footballing authorities get their finger out to address the ongoing hypocrisy re crowds and we see full crowds back from August!
  9. Judging by our apparent targets just now GA's market appears to be firmly in the League 2 to National League bracket.. I know we've found some gems in that market but I'm hoping our rebuild doesn't consist of filling our team with 10 guys who played well against Salford City. It feels like we used to atleast get guys kicking about in League 1. Don't get me wrong Ryan Bowman was okay for us but he looks like Ronaldo in League 2 down there.
  10. I'd say Devante was one of my favourite players in the last year or so. It's easy to see he has the attributes to play at a decent level and good luck to him at Barnsley, a really good deal for him. As much as I loved him I've always been very aware that we were quite overtly a short term stepping stone for him. And that's totally fine btw. Looking at that graphic of the squad is quite eye opening, there's maybe like 5 bodies you would say are certain to start. GA and whoever winds up as the new Martin Foyle is going to have a job on their hands. I'm really interested to see what sort of team GA forms. I like the Shields signing, I think the last few years has proven there is good potential in the Championship with the likes of Dykes and Nisbett etc. In terms of Moult, I honestly don't think its that pie in the sky. I think Moult genuinely does have an emotional connection to the club and if it was us vs as lower end L1 club we might have a chance. I'm not really sure if the likes of HIbs, Hearts, Aberdeen etc will be in for him. It's hard to say with his injury record, I think that will put a lot of clubs off tbh. Lafferty is probably going to go to the highest bidder so I'm not so sure but I would love him to come if even just for the #bants Ideally i'd like us to try build a bit more stability with boys who will be here for the medium term but whether this is achievable I'm not sure. I look at the likes of SOD and Watt who probably to spend the next few years here and build something. I think having a solid base in that vein mixed with potential/short term guys would build more momentum than having to do a total rebuild every 2 years but I appreciate its really difficult for a club like ours.
  11. Alexander has done an effective job at keeping us safe and this is the most important thing. Given some of the performances we have had this season this was never a certainty. On the other hand, I can totally appreciate people being pissed off with the current state of affairs and football that has been getting played (or lack there of) Clearly staying up is the number one priority and Alexander has done that pretty effectively with games to spare. At the same time I'm not going to decry any fan for complaining about some of these performances. Probably like many, this season has been one of the most disenchanting for me as a fan for obvious reasons. Not being able to go to games, paying season ticket money for shit quality streams/coverage, the attitudes of some of players and some of the nonsense online. It's just been piss poor and I honestly can't wait for the season to be over with. I obviously want us to win tomorrow but the thought of us winning our first trophy in 30 years with no fans is honestly giving me the fear. Looking forward, I'm genuinely hopeful for next season. I think Alexander willl have a lot of scope to change things but the rebuild on his hands is reminisist of 2/3 seasons ago. It's a big job and it wouldn't surprise me if we end up with 3-5 first team players in the starting 11 come July. My biggest concern for next season is what will happen if we do not get fans back sooner rather than later. I am genuinely worried that our crowd could take a dip long-term if the status quo remains. The club and SPFL really need to start applying pressure on the Government to get some sort of concrete answers about what the plan is for the new season. If things go as they are expected to, there is no reason why 4k can't be sitting in a 13k stadium from the end of July. Another few months of Jock Brown, Lewis Irons and white noise blaring through my speakers might tip me over the edge.
  12. Delighted with the win last night, things got a bit anxious at the end but that was probably the most I have enjoyed a game this season, really decent watch. I thought going foward, the front 3 looked excellent. I feel like Cole, Long and Watt actually looked like they were enjoying the link-up play with eachother which was really refreshing to see. For all the Chris Long negativity - from myself included - I don't think any of us have ever doubted his talent and I think last night reinterated that when he can be arsed he is a very decent player at our level. Outside of the attack I thought Mugabi, Kelly and Crawford were really strong. One of the patterns in play I quite like with Alexander is the pressing from the front, hopefully this will continue to be a feature of our play and we will improve at it as we go. I also really enjoyed Alexander bawling 'encourgement' at the players in his thick English accent whilst they do it. Wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him! Only negative for me is Tony Watt's finishing. I love Watt as much as the next guy, he is excellent outside of the box but he needs to take far more of his chances. I appreciate Watt isn't going to be a 20 goal a season striker and that he is here mainly for the rest of what he offers but watching him at St Johnstone and Hearts this is a recurring theme. Again, I don't want to be overly critical of a guy who has been tremendous for us but we could easily have dropped points at the end there due to missed chances. I get the feeling Alexander might try to give it a go against Celtic rather than reverting to a 5-5-0, we certainly don't have anything to fear going into Saturday.
  13. I'm pleased we have got some fresh faces in, it really was much needed. At the very least it will keep some of the boys in the first team on their toes. To me Nolan looks like the pick of the bunch, I'm hoping for some no nonsense Tom Aldred vibes. The rest I'm not sure about but I'm not going to pre judge. The boy from Hearts clearly has talent judging by the goal he scored against us for Caley so atleast there is something there to work with. Overall our transfer strategy seems to be extremely short-term, older players/loans. It is very much get to the summer, stay up and reassess. To be honest though when you look across other clubs thats most of the business getting done so I'm not going to grumble in this current climate. My only concern is the squad being too big, it's never good to have too many bodies as it inevitably leads to unhappy players. I'm quite hopeful that we might see a few mutual consents for the likes of Seedorf, Robinson, Chapman and co.
  14. I think he would fit the bill, we've been crying out for another winger. Any reason why he didn't play with you? (only going by wiki)
  15. Last night was absolutely massive, you can't help but feel chuffed for the boys after the effort they put in second half. I think a few of them proved they do actually care a wee bit more than we thought. We aren't out of the woods by any means however and I still think we need quite a few changes. I was majorly bricking it throughout and I think we need to acknowledge that the game could easily have went either way at points. In terms of highlights, I thought Mugabi was excellent and he has really surpassed my expectations recently. Watt and Cole were also terrific. I actually wouldn't mind seeing them working as a two I think it could work really well. I also think you would get more out of Long coming off the bench in a two. I admit to being a Devante Cole fan boy but he is the one guy I look at who always looks capable of being a goal scoring threat. In terms of negatives, I really like Alan Campbell but i feel like he escapes alot of criticism based on his workrate and general attitude. I've watched countless games this season and he is really frustrating to watch, he seems to repeatedly lose the ball rather than just playing simple passes. Clearly the good outweighs the bad but I really feel like his form has dipped this season. As for the goal, hopefully Gallagher is embarrassed watching that back. I would be If I had put in a tackle like that at 7 a sides. Final moan is no doubt controversial given that he has provided many with a nostalgia trip but I am 100% over Jock Brown. Overall his analysis is pretty pish and his clichéd 'standing in ceremony' and 'no quarter given' patter is driving me up the wall. If the media team would fix the sounds levels it might not be so bad but the overall 'match day experience' is pretty sub par.
  16. Hardly Spartak Moscow Ultras turning up at yer training ground but i guess it did the job. In hindsight its quite funny to look back at some of the comments that were made at the time. There was quite a chunk of the fan base that commented that the half time reaction was a 'red neck' etc. Looking back it prompted the start of a pretty succesful Robbo era so well in to the young team. The team that day still makes me wince, McMillan, Chalmers, Jules, Clay and CBA anymore Stevie Pearson. Zak Jules contribution in this and the Killie? at home make him probably my least fave player in the last 10 years
  17. As much as I've slated him I'd like to see Chris Long get a start tonight. CBA seeing Seedorf ever again, I think it's fair to say he's had his chance and despite having something he hasn't shown it anywhere near enough to playing at this level. I'd go for something like the below. Our midfield concerns me but I don't know what other options we really have atm. Kelly O'Donnell Mugabi Gallagher Carroll Maguire Campbell Crawford Long Cole Watt I'm trying to stay optimistic and I do think we will win. If we are on song upfront we should have far too much for County. At the same time if we do lose i have the fear that we are going to totally shit the bed this season. On the topic of Hylton, I always thought he was talented but he strikes me as a player who is probably going to amount to hee haw (no harm to the boy) I liked him at times but I just don't think he is the type of guy who can perform anywhere near consistently enough for 90 minutes week in and week out. I look forward to his hat trick tonight after these comments..
  18. I'm not going to slate the guy Foley, we definitely need something in midfield but it is hard not to be underwhelmed by him. St Mirren fans seem to think he was a decent player who has probably lost a step of two, so he clearly had something and if anything might bring a bit of experience and nous to the squad. On a more general note, I don't think our business thus far has been an adequate reaction to where we are just now. Most of us agree the problem was the players as well as the manager but we seem to be making only modest upgrades rather than having somewhat of a mini clear out. I'm not expecting us to move mountains particularly in this economic climate but we need to make more changes than we are seeing. There was an acceptance within the support that a lot of the players didn't want to be here, I don't think that has gone away because of the appointment of a new manager. I don't want to be melodramatic, but if we go down and this is the size of our January window folk will rightly be asking questions. There is a middle ground between expecting glamour signings and what we are seeing just now. I think most of us would be satisfied with 2-3 more changes of note.
  19. Dunno if I'm just getting desperate but I would have taken Middleton, always thought he looked decent. I still think we are really lacking a winger. It would be nice to have one who didn't lose the ball everytime they received it. I'll be honest and say I expected more bodies in and out by now, hoping there will be some movement this week.
  20. Aye, in all seriousness we need to get our arse in gear. I totally get Alexander wanting to assess the current squad but at the same time we need to make changes sooner rather than later. There is only just over a week left of this window. We need to prioritise getting the bad apples out the door and adding in some key positions, centre back, centre mid, winger and striker plz. Also, the SOD, Gallagher and Campbell thing still seems a wee bit up in the air. Hoping this all shakes out soon
  21. Honestly, for all the football I've watched I can't really remember what he is like. What kind of winger we talking? I'm presuming he is not in the Gboly/Rolando mould?
  22. The new documentary piece is a decent watch. I am really encouraged to see that Alexander and his family are moving up here. It might sound a trivial matter but players and managers personal lives can often cause issues when they are in temporary accommodation and commuting X amount of hours back and forth. Hopefully this is an indication that he is looking to build something long term. I've read bits and pieces on Alexander but I'm still not really clear what his style of play is, or if he has one. There has been threads all the way from negative defensive football to 442 in your face attack but losing a lot of goals. Ofcourse, both could be true but as with all coaches I'm sure he has some methodology that he sticks to. I don't see much truth in the Rooney stuff. No harm to the guy but he pretty much declared himself a mercenary striker when he moved from Aberdeen to Salford. The notion that we would be able to afford whatever he is getting just now seems unrealistic. I doubt Adam Rooney is at Sollihull Moors for anything other than the money.
  23. Big Kyle signing in time for a Wrestlemania 17-esq heel turn on the h*ns on Sunday.
  24. At this moment in time I am 100% aboard the Alexander hype train. From watching his interviews he articulates himself really well. Also, he dresses impeccably so it will be good to have a #shagger in charge of the team. In all seriousness, I watched some of the 92' documentary a while back and thought he came across pretty well. His record is decent and as has been mentioned he has a good experience of the majority of the leagues in England. The only major negative I can see is that I'm not sure how much he actually knows about the SPFL despite him playing for Scotland through his da or whatever. Anyway, I hope the announcement comes today and we can get things moving. In regards to Campbell, its dissapointing that we are likely going to lose another player on a pre-contract albeit with some compensation. Millwalll would be a good move for him, I think thats probably the level of club he can realistically expect. I'm a fan of Alan but I have felt over the last few years folk have maybe gone a bit overboard about his potential, he is a model professional and will have a good career but is still limited in some respects. On the whole, I think Campbell at points has been pretty shite this year but you always knows he gives maximum effort for the club. The same can't be said for others. Hopefully this situation is resolved sooner rather than later. With that being said, I don't think losing him in January for a cut price deal should be on the cards. Losing Campbell in the situation we are in could be a bit of a death knell for us.
