You’d like to think that was the point- sometimes hard decisions need to be taken- and dropping one of two CB’s shouldn’t be too hard. Danny put Lang at right back until Cogill’s injury at Peterhead gave him a way out. Decisions like this need taking- Howie is as much a RB as Lang was....

Not great- any slim chance we had of chasing down 4th has now gone. By all accounts we were dreadful yesterday- and I mean woeful. A very strange starting line up- to say the least. Mcstay seemed good enough to start v Celtic but not up to playing away to Airdrie? Could perhaps understand if he’d been replaced by a fast, hard, mobile loanee- but no- Wylde and Lyons..........and Grant holding deep in front of the defence with Ranks, great player though he is trying to run centre mid at 36, two games into a comeback from long term injury. I think there’s many a lowland league side would fancy lining up v that set up. Goodie at last with someone closer as we played 4-1-3-1-1 but the way it’s going we could have a world class striker up there for all the good it does with tactics like this. It’s complete regression- but never mind eh- we’ve got performance tracking vests! Danny has been given everything- best budget for years- luxury travel for away matches- all the gizmos to aid training- total support from the Chairmen past and present and we are producing displays and results like this, and Forfar, to mention but two. Even hearing posters on club forum blaming Lang coming back for disrupting Howie and Rumsby’s partnership..... heard it all now! It’s time now, with almost a fully fit squad for Danny to prove he can be the man to take us to the Championship- sadly for me right now- the jury is out.

Thought Mcstay started really well but faded, probably due to fitness. Our perennial issue is Goodie being so isolated. Our midfield are not getting near enough to him often enough and he’s got 2 defenders all over him and a third defender available to mop up. We need either more energy in midfield with players who can get beyond their defence or- play 2 up front which again means more energy and dig in midfield. i feel sure Danny knows this and is hamstrung by limited finance and said type of midfielders availability currently. Has to be loanee or out of contract. I’m sure all avenues being explored. Changing the subject slightly- I really don’t think Goodie should be our captain- he’s not very vocal- he has a poorish game then they all do. Hard to remove his captaincy without offending- but I think it should be Ranks or Mitchell- that is until Lang signs a new contract with us. He’s a natural leader and encouraging others is a big part of his game.

Maybe he should practice this at training with Tom Lang........... just saying

Pretty incredible last month of activity....... Lang in on loan Wylde signed Left back ( at last) on loan from SPL Club Striker in on loan from SPL Club Mitch- contract extension Goodie- contract extension Wallace (who sadly underperformed) offloaded Rankin back playing injury list almost clear (except Krist Krista Chrustfa.....Norway) Last 16 of Cup v Celtic tomorrow Could we possibly take any more good news without all getting in a hot tub naked with Shawfield Shed Boy? Well done to whoever was instrumental in achieving all of the above signings- and to the back room staff for coping with the ridiculous injury list. Forfar was just awful- but 4th still possible...... hopefully.

Then Lyon, Duffie and maybe Cuddihy need to go as well as McNiff and Lamont- we need to compete in this league, if even only for 4th spot.

A few possibilities..... 1. Player may not have wanted to go with 18 months left on contract and possibly no club to go to. May have taken time to negotiate him out and/or find him a new club. 2. Maybe targets for his freed up wage were not completed in time before window closed. 3. Maybe his wage was pre assigned to cover Lang or Wylde or Mitchell or Goodies new contract. 4. Maybe his wage will be utilised for loan players or free agents that we can still bring in until 28 Feb.

It’s a dilemma all right. Back 3? Back 4? If back 4 who will be the CB pairing? I’d say with Howie starting at RB there’s a clue. A further clue for me is that Rumsby was subbed yesterday to re-organise with Howie moving inside to CB and Cuddihy going to RB. It doesn’t suggest to me that Lang will be the one dropping to the bench if it’s a back 4. A very tough decision which has been averted so far by shoehorning all 3 into the defence.
