  1. Main difference between Paul Sheerin and Eddie May. Paul wants the Falkirk Head Coach position.
  2. I think Paul Sheerin has the correct blend of experience (3 good spells as footballer at Scottish Clubs) reasonable level of proven Coaching ability (Arbroath and St. J. & Aberdeen youths) enthusiasm (or at least not jaded) knowledge of the level we’re at / striving for (starting at 3rd tier mid table) I’m excited and wish Paul the very best at Falkirk.
  3. So, Alan, looking forward to working with Gary at Falkirk FC?
  4. When/if Paul Sheerin is given the Head Coach position, his assistant will be the least interesting aspect of the appointment. Vision for the future, players on the radar, working relationship with Holt are just 3 of the topics that’ll come to the fore.
  5. ....and we think we’ve got problems....
  6. With our current League One status, I’ve mentioned previously that I believed Darren Young to be a good choice as Head Coach. Not too dissimilar a profile to Jim Jefferies when he came with the Deans from Berwick, some time back. So, I do think Paul Sheerin would be a good appointment with a similar low profile, modestly successful management background. As long as Holt is kept upstairs, mainly detached from 1st team matters, I’d be optimistic about Paul Sheerin. As good a choice as we could’ve hoped for. But then again I did think Hartley and Mackinnon would do well.....
  7. Who is Robbo? Edit - uh oh, didn’t realise we’re talking about another team in another league
  8. Just got to get this off my chest. I have grave concerns regarding the likely appointment of Stuart Taylor and/or Peter Grant as head coach at Falkirk. Their managerial record is strewn with short spells (~ 6-18 months) at clubs in management/coaching roles for the last 15 years culminating in failure. I fear this will continue at Falkirk as each are regressive in management ability terms. I know I’ve put forward Darren Young previously but his record in 2 spells as manager - Albion Rovers (3 seasons) and East Fife (4 seasons) establishing each part time team as solid League One outfits - is highly creditable. Now, I know we all want more than League One obscurity but these are impressive credentials to consider for a club in our current state (I.e. fcked). We should appoint Young before the Fifers do.
  9. No left field appointment please. Previous appointments (and I’m going back decades) that were successful - Cunningham, Totten, Lamont, Jeffries. From the same mould is Darren Young but there may be others. A few years experience at a club of lower stature (sic), relative success, learned from mistakes. Plus I believe Darren Young applied for vacancy last time. Lets not miss him twice.
  10. That Lee Miller interview......how many managers does it take to change a lightbulb? Shape, shape, shape....ffs. ‘We change our shape to suit the opposition’ What??? I mean, this is 3rd tier, we’ve the biggest budget and we’re top of the league. Just set up a consistent 4-4-2 and dominate. Just don’t confuse players by asking them to perform in a different way each game. Largs mentality, quickest way to failure, proven time and again. We will be in this division next season.
  11. Based on what evidence? I mean, M&M are poor but as has been said above, we need a manager with a wee bit of experience and success. (Darren Young or Stewart Petrie for example, but that’s for the end of season).
  12. Yeah, that 4-6-0 has me in stitches every time.......
  13. Falkirk 2 - 2 Rangers Scottish Cup early 70s. i think that was the score, certainly a draw. Lost the reply at Ibrox 3-1, with Ferguson sent off.
  14. Yeah, very good memories. Gregor Abel was actually a teacher at Falkirk High School. Nice guy, and that is a high accolade from me for a teacher lol. Remember one time he was umpiring a school cricket match and after I caught & bowled a batsmen ( who’d driven ball straight back at me), Gregor quipped that it was just as well I’d caught it, as he was about to nod it back into my arms. Hard to compare the talent and style of not just Falkirk, but Scottish Football overall, in those days to now. It started to decline with the Roxburgh/Largs set up.....
  15. **David McCabe Not only these younger players coming through, but a stable core supplied by the likes of Gibson, Hoggan, Setterington, Tom Young. Frankly, we are light years from that now.
  16. I'm ITK, and Jamie McQuilken has come aboard as our dedicated Left Back coach. Welcome aboard Jazza Not sure if just one man can handle that workload
  17. The way he lay on the ground for several minutes, and limped off assisted, had all the hallmarks of a torn ACL. Apologies for speculation and best wishes to Keena. If so though, he would be out for the season but I’d be very happy to be told otherwise.
  18. “Nobody likes us.........and we don’t care”
  19. Mmmmnn...... Watching the highlights, we were torn apart at full back time and time again. Even Kingsley. Mutch looks superb, and there are positive signs that Keena /Dowds are fine players. Trialist Francis didn’t look like a player playing for a contract - no real desire to get on that cut-back at 0-1. I’m doubtful I’m afraid. Injured players Alston, Todd, Telfer .....I mean, we’ve just started pre-season ffs.
  20. Worst part of that move was that we rejected Alex Ferguson when he applied for the job. Ferguson, as player coach, had a large part in the success of the final year of Willie Cunningham’s tenure, as Willie was not a well man due to illness. When I say ‘we’, I of course mean the incumbent Board of Directors.....
  21. I see nothing in the statement from ‘Donky’ Doncaster which states the action to be taken by SFA/SPFL to address the breakdown in communication to all players to ensure Scottish Football can continue through these times. Clear penalties to be applied to clubs with players infringing Scot Govt legislation which allowed Scottish Football to resume, should now be published. Just what this man does to justify his huge salary is a mystery. Vote of no confidence on the horizon if no action results. This is serious, with Celtic’s participation in Europe at risk.
  22. Alan Cousins, yeah agreed. I vaguely recall a brief story of a school friend who was down at Brockville to watch training one morning. Alan piped up with a tactical manoeuvre. In a very cultured tone ... ”There’s this throw in set up that we practiced at Dundee, lets try it.....we never actually used it in a match though.....”
  23. Keep up Thane, I mentioned The Ghost several posts previously. Although, tournament inaccurately, I’ll give you that......
