Apt finish to a terrible season, no doubt the happy clappers will somehow spin it as a positive.

"We were unlucky. I think the lads played really well and deserved to win the game. The scoreline heavily flatters the hosts." - Ray McKinnon

"We were s**** and deserved a  drubbing to sum up the season." - majority of Forfar fans.

I see our match preview today talks about what might have been if it wasn't for injuries. Two points on that:

    1. I don't believe we've had many issues in terms of injuries, struggling to think of too many long term absentees bar Craig Thomson (not injured, and barely started since available) or Darren Whyte (persona non gratis). Our only injuries have been short term.

    2. It sounds like the club are making excuses to justify this terrible season, as is we'd have been head to head with Stenny without a couple of knocks here and there. It tells me that they're sticking with Ray and don't see a problem with this season.

It's now over 30 years since the move to 4 divisions, in that time we've been a tier 4 on 10 (soon to be 11) occasions, this is only the 2nd season of those 10 that we haven't been in the promotion hunt in this league, even last year we nearly made the playoffs. We should be aiming for promotion every season in this league, not meekly accepting a season where we were looking over our shoulder the whole time

I agree, we can't play the injury card when you look at other teams this season in all the leagues. Clyde have had more injuries than us, and look at Arbroath they had their 2nd choice keeper play out field because they could only name 3 on the bench (I'll ignore the fact Ali Adams scored a 30 yard screamer in his "outfield outing").

Skelly has had a few injuries but they've been 2 or 3 weeks at a time at most.

You're right Thommo has been our longest absentee (since the club have erased Daz from history) and whilst he did have an injury his absence was mostly due to firefighter training.

However, it's not surprising the way the board have worded this. We all know that not being relegated is viewed as successful for this club. When we inevitably go down to the Highland League I imagine the first season the target will be "get into the pyramid playoff" if that doesn't happen then the club will be happy to mingle with Nairn, Keith and Inverurie for midtable boredom.

Not saying they folk are saying saying they are world beaters.

theres a couple still in the squad I would like to stay along with Hutchi, & Morrison

I’d like Thommo, Whatley, Scally & if we could get him Mykyta to stay permanently (which we probably won’t)
I have no real opinion on Brindley &  Inglis staying, as much as I don’t rate them to start they could prove to be useful squad players.

I’d also love to know what’s happened to Darren Whyte? He’s just completely disappeared.

Completely agree about Daz. Clyde announced his end of loan but Forfar made no comment. I know people said Daz and Ray didn't get on, but at least inform us of what happened, I'm assuming he's just sitting out his contract at home, not training or anything.

Mind boggling that some folk are bothered about these lads leaving.

Seb Ross played a few decent games but never really looked to be a good player, I’m sure he thinks he’s much better than he is, but in reality he’s a league two player.

Andy Munro been a good servant for the club always gives his all, has been decent this season but we need to improve in this area if we’re wanting to challenge for promotion.

Roberto Nditi has had some decent games again but he’s an absolute liability defensively, he has a great work ethic & effort but the he’s too slapdash of a defender for me; always caught out of position.

Josh Skelly the less said about him the better, I’m sure he was born offside, granted he runs about but Deary me he’s like a bull in a china shop with & without the ball.

Adam Hutchinson as said above by a couple of people would be the only one I would keep, he’s been solid all season. I reckon if I we could convince Morrison & Hutchy to stay that would be an excellent partnership in defence,

I don't think all fans think these players are world beaters but they will be decent to good players in a competent League Two squad. As previously mentioned, I fully expect them to join teams who finished above Forfar.

But supposedly we dump every single player except for Marc, Rusty & Matty who are under contract and we manage to get Morrison to stay. Do you think we'll sign 18-20 players who are all massive upgrades on what we currently have?

Why anyone would be bothered about players leaving is beyond me , they are obviously not good enough to get out of this league , well maybe through the arse end of it

I understand you're reasoning but I ask you, why will all these departing players likely (with the exception of Skelly) join teams that finished above Forfar?

If rumours are to be believed the players mentioned are probably off to Peterhead, Montrose, an Edinburgh based team (so probably Edinburgh City or Spartans) etc.

For those interested heard today Hutchinson, Munro, nditi, skelly and seb Ross are all definitely away next season.

Skelly going lochee apparently, seb ross going Peterhead and nditi might be going back down south.

Of those I'd say Hutchinson leaving is the biggest surprise been brilliant and can only assume he's going to maybe Arbroath or Montrose or something?

Nditi will be missed hugely great lad and been brilliant since going into midfield recently.

Seb going kinda expected, can score some good goals and been one of our better attacking players but seems like he just wants to go back closer home in Aberdeen so best of luck to him.

Skelly was expected, just simply hasn't worked out unfortunately.

Munro is mixed feelings, at about Christmas I think we were all saying his times up and he wasn't playing well at all but has to be said since then he came back into form and looked more like old andy last couple months and would have been happy for him to stick around. seems like he wants to be back closer to Edinburgh now tho so best of luck to him, he's been a good servant overall over the years.

Just proves how we have become a feeder club to Lochee, looking forward to the Forfar v Lochee derby in the Highland League in a couple years time. 🙄

We've known Hutchi was away, also not surprising to see the likes of Seb & Nditi departing, I would hazard a guess that if we'd had a more successful season top 4 all year or better they'd maybe stay but those two are definitely destined for football at a higher level.

It has felt like this was Munro's last season and I'm glad he vastly improved his form to depart on good terms.

Honestly, I thought Skelly might choose to stay knowing this is probably his last chance at the SPFL, but agree he's better suited to the junior game.

As for Ray, there's no chance the board will dispose of him, this season will be viewed as a success because we're not 10th (how ambitious 🙄) surely the only way Ray leaves is if he blags an assistant manager gig somewhere else.

I made the trip earlier in the season in awful conditions and witnessed probably one of our very few pass mark performances.

But I am the same as you, could not think of anything worse, will probably take in a local junior game.

Where are Lochee playing 😜 since we're a feeder team for them! 😄

  8. 1. McCallum - Already signed for next year, and definitley keep.

    2. Nditi - Deserves another contract, but is likely on the move and will get a L1 side (someone like Montrose perhaps?)

    3. Brindley - Uninspiring, not bothered if he leaves.

    5. Matty Allan - Already signed for next year, that's good hopefully he'll be CB, rather than RB.

    6. Morrison - Definitley would sign him up, hopefully he'll be CB, rather than CM.

    7. Thommo - I like him but he's probably gone, let him focus on his fireman career.

    9. Skelly - back to the ferry for him to bang in 30 goals a season.

    10. Whatley - keep either him or Robson, but not both. Does a job, but not an outstanding player.

    11. Kinglis - has been a disappointment, maybe he'll go back to Brechin City.

    12. Mykyta - loan so will go back, not really had much of a chance after a promising debut with 2 assists.

    14. Seb Ross - I'd keep him, shown promise and has been about as creative as any player can be in this squad.

    15. Hutchi - I'd keep him but as many have said, he's keen to get out of Station Park, and I don't blame him.

    16. Robson - keep either him or Whatley, but not both. Does a job, but not an outstanding player.

    18. Finlay Allan - loan player so he'll leave. The lad is very talented and will do well but going to Forfar was a mistake, he'll be loaned out to another club and I suspect will do well.

    19. Munro - massively improved from the start of the season, but his time here is coming to an end and he'll leave us with a metaphorical handshake from me.

    20. Mohammed - loan player so he'll go back. No strong opinion.

    21. Paris - backup GK so who cares if he stays or goes, he won't get ahead of Marc.

    22. Scally - Had some okay games, he'll probably depart.

    23. Rusty - Already signed, with his moaning attitude, I'll only be happy with him if he starts scoring regularly, rather than scores a brace one game, does nothing for the next five.

    24. Lobban - loan player so will leave. Another pointless signing who did absolutely nothing but sit on the bench.

  9. Skelly may not be a prolific striker for leagues 1 & 2, however, I bet if he was in the Stenny squad he'd likely get 10+ goals.

Likewise, if we still had Aitken he'd probably be on 5 or 6 for us. Yes, quality is important but also a lesser player will always do better in a strong cohesive team.

What we can all agree is that Forfar this year have no attacking impetus and are happy to slug out a miserable 0-0 week in week out.
