Problem is if the peak isnt flattened out then the services will struggle to cope and there could be a higher death rate.

I think Welshy made that point earlier.

But he later said that you'd need to keep the spike 'short' otherwise Society becomes fooked.

    Go figure.

It's not relevant. The bin dweller doesn't have a fucking scooby about how many people this will kill before it's done, he's literally read some twitter post and taken the view that the virus isn't a worry for him, because he's not old or ill. He's literally so stupid he doesn't see how this will affect his life and has the cheek to call everyone else a mentalist. The death rate is slowing in China because they are taking the most drastic measures available to them. We are not doing that here, other parts of the world aren't even bothering their arse testing people, we have no idea how many it will kill and China can only be used as a barometer if we start implementing the same measures they are.

I'm in my mid 50's with previous health issues...

    * Banned from Twitter after recent flat earther rocketman died, so not seen really a thing there about this virus. Nice try.

And now...you want to be like China 😁

    Fair play to them.

If the general profile of folk that die is that they are old and have underlying health issues.... That implies they don't have long on this mortal coil anyways.

And the falling death rate in China kinda hints that Worldwide the death total will be hee haw, relatively. With most not going to have lived for decades without the virus.

Is it worth the meltdown by mentalists?

    I think not.

There still is a huge disconnect between what folk think the personal consequences of catching it will be versus the actual point of trying to contain it.

Some folk seem unable to correlate the potential for a heavy cold with the absolute societal nightmare that comes with having to shut down business, schools, transport and whatever else. And that the point of doing that is to avoid millions of deaths.

To many folk look no further than "this wont kill me"

    It's not 'millions of deaths'.

    It really isn't.

A real job is the provision of goods or services that people are willing to pay you for. It's really as simple as that.

If people no longer want, for example, taxis then taxi driver will no longer be a job.

If we all die of the virus by that rationale , being a doctor isn't a proper job either.

So? Knocking 10% of people off of the number normally travelling around each day will clearly have an affect on the spread.

    Not if you're a postman.

Having hundreds of folk turn up at your house to collect their letters widn't be good.

If you phone up your doctor here with these symptoms......tired, achy, chills....they'll laugh at you and tell you to stay at home for a few days, take paracetamol and drink tea.

No way in a million years will you get the special treatment that the Hanks' got, rushed into a private hospital for immediate testing. For normal people, they'll only test you under a very strict set of circumstances.

If any of us catch this virus, there's a huge chance that we won't even know about it. We'll just lie on the couch watching Sky Sports and drinking Lemsip until we feel better and go back to work.

    Hanks has severe diabetes.

Being a 'normal person' will have nowt to do with his case.
