I might have been the c**t today but I think it was the other guy. Entering the roundabout at Stirling Services I checked to see the road was clear, let a Fiat 500 go past then pulled out. Cue blaring horns and a glimpse of something silver passing behind me. Looked left in time to see a silver estate screaming past with the driver glaring at me.

Thing is, he must have been doing some speed around that roundabout to make up the distance between me checking and pulling out.

Might have been the same guy I saw joining the roundabout at the Craigs far too fast, then started blaring his horn because he had to slow down for the sensible drivers who wouldn't have seen him coming when they joined the roundabout.

    Frigging maniac.

Taylor was the main man when I started watching tennis (well Wimbledon, as nothing else was televised). Got to the semis there IIRC when Jan Kodes won in a much reduced quality field due to a boycott.

He did reach the semis, beaten by Wilhelm Bungert IIRC. Might have been the following year when the open era started, partly as a realistic response to the Wimbledon boycott.

John Lloyd was the one I was surprised about tbh. He was always portrayed as a playboy, but must have done enough on the court.

Couldn't think of anyone other than those mentioned by specsaver and myself. On reflection, thought it might have been Jeremy Bates. John Lloyd did have a fairly long career right enough, so fair play to him.

Thanks for giving me a sleepless night🤪

I won't confirm in case anyone else wants a go, except to say that’s not the seven.

Murray, Henman, Ruzedski, Mottram, Mark Cox, Roger Taylor are 6 I think from memory of their singles careers at the time (I am that old). Don't think the Lloyds would have had enough singles wins, though John in particular had a good doubles record. Can't think of a 7th atm. Hopefully come to me in my sleep!

  5. Well done to GB's women's team, beating France on clay to qualify for the finals in Seville later this year.

Katie Boulter was ragdolled in the first rubber yesterday, but came back today and won convincingly. Emma Raducanu was utter class in both her rubbers. Real signs that she has a good chance of fulfilling her potential if she can get a good run without injuries.

  6. As the title of the thread suggests, this may well come down to which teams have the bottle for the fight.

If Annan get even closer to the teams above, I fancy them and ourselves to have the best chance of escaping, mainly because of the managers and the attitude both teams have shown last season and this. They seem to never give up.

I worry a bit for Queens, based on what their fans are saying. If the players aren't really playing for Bartley, they could be found wanting when it matters most.

Not sure about Kelty. Defeat next week at Annan, on top of their current bad run, could be enough to affect their run in.

Having said all that, I've felt for a while that 1 bad week for Annan, where they lose and the others win would leave them with too much to do.

Think it'll come down to a point or so here and there at the end of the day.

No sign of any new players for us which is worrying. After the last game, Darren Young said there was a couple of players coming in (I assume on trial) and he was also working on getting a couple of loan deals completed. Has everything fallen through?

Think the loan player(s) coming in depended on the parent club getting players in before the loans were released. Darren said something about a domino situation. I took that to mean the loan(s) were agreed, but could fall through if circumstances worked against us.

Putting 2 & 2 together, I wonder if the players coming in on trial might be in case the loans fall through.

Superb straight win for Murray against Djokovic in Cincinnati today. Could this be a return to form for the old master?

Into the final now. They seem to have generally got to about the quarter final or last 16 stage in the bigger tournaments this year, so good to see them getting further this time.

Hamilton and Stirling always seem to do pretty well in the league cup.  Previous two seasons both have came second in their group only losing the one game on each occasion. Thankfully it seems to have little connection to how they do in the league.

We really were crap in the league last season right enough. Only won it by a few points.

Edit to add: Darren Young also saying that he is hopeful of bringing 1 more player in, assuming the board can fund it. I assume the funds will be found for 1 more, maybe a loan deal of sorts. Can't say we are really crying out for a position, but would still like to see another Right Wide player come in.

I would like to see some cover for Cammy Clark again. Can't see we've got anyone decent if he gets injured/suspended.

Haven't read about Moore, Dunsmore, Callum Law or Will Greenhorn, but their existing contracts may cover them for next season. Callum Law maybe going to be released now Weir has signed?

Moore, Dunsmore and Law signed for next season according to the Observer. Gives us a squad of 17 at the moment. Would imagine we'll be looking to add another 3 or 4 including loans.

Haven't heard about McGregor either?  If not announced as released then quite possible negotiations continue, or offers still under consideration.  Goalkeepers get injured too and you don't want to risk being left with no back up, so not convinced Weir signing equates with Law possibly going gmca.

Hope you're right WC. Would be sorry to see a young goalie at the start of his career being released.

8 points………is it time to get excited yet?

As it stands we need 11 points to be certain of winning the title. That assumes Dumbarton win all their games and overcome an 18 goal deficit.

Realistically, I think 6 points would probably do us. Sons would need to win 5 of their remaining games to pip us.

As WC says though, one game at a time. Won't relax until it's (hopefully) done and dusted.

The only thing I’d say is that Stirling have just had 4 away games in a row, which was a massive chance for us to open up a gap.

    This.

Was a bit concerned Sons might pull away from us over this run of games. Think we did alright though, got 1 win and 3 draws out of the 4games after being fairly idle through postponements.

I think Tuesday is a big game for you. Good teams go through relatively bad spells, with a terrible result (like yours yesterday) either leading to a recovery in form in the next game, or a continuation of poor form.

Win the game and you're 5 points ahead. I know whose shoes I'd rather be in if that happens.

I was thinking last night that being a Sons or Binos fan at the moment must be what it feels like to be an Old Firm fan. I really got my hopes up that Bonnyrigg would hold on, but deep down I knew that winner was coming. Just as, I suspect, Binos fans felt on Saturday when we squeaked beyond Annan.

You do have to say fair play to both sides for their records so far. To be pretty much secured of a playoff place by Valentines' Day isn't something many teams manage, and it's a credit to how consistent both have been at stringing together positive results. In a lot of seasons  our current records would have one our teams sitting fairly comfortably at the top of the league.

This title race is not good for the heart rate, but both squads are performing admirably. Especially given the variety of venues in this league; from our tattie field to big astros at Forfar, Stenny and EF to the hilly public park style at Bonnyrigg.

    Very good post.

What makes it even more enjoyable(?) in a way is neither team is blowing the opposition away. Seems to be victories by 1 goal most weeks, which says a lot about the character of both teams, but gives hope to both that the other team will falter.

Come the end of the season, I hope both teams manage to get promoted.

An excellent post, good points well made.

There's a point about upcoming fixtures; Stirling have two games in hand over us but I pretty sure they are about to play on four Tuesdays in a row - added to Saturdays that's some schedule for a part-time team.

We need to keep laser focused on the next game and taking points.  But I'm wondering if any of today's yellow cards will result in a suspension next week 😏

After tomorrow's game, the rescheduled matches are on 7th and 21st March. We still have to fit in our postponed game from Saturday against Elgin, and I think the SFA ask for these matches to be played before the end of March.

Still a tough schedule, but thankfully not as brutal as 4 Tuesdays in a row.

    No need for DIY kits.

You can get it done privately for a modest cost and they will tell you if there is anything serious.

Its a bit like going to the dentist where, even under the NHS, there are fees for certain procedures.

Its time we started taking more personal responsibility for things like that.

£60 to get both ears microsuctioned to clear wax.  I can afford it, but I'm sure many people would baulk at paying this.

Locally, I can't get my ears syringed by the NHS because they consider there's a danger of damage to the eardrum using this method.

I thought some time ago that it would be quite interesting to have a composite of all the individual predictions that folk have made on this thread. Coming across the thread again the other day, & with the league starting to take some early season shape, with just over a quarter of games played, thought why not crack on & do it.

So ..... based strictly on all the 1-10 predictions submitted - haven't taken into account those that were incomplete & just predicted top & bottom, or top, bottom & playoffs - & using a simple scoring of 1st = 10 points, 2nd = 9, & so on down to 10th = 1 point, here's how the composite prediction table stacks up:

    1: Stenhousemuir 297 points

    2: Forfar 295

    3: Dumbarton 221

    4: Annan 206

    5: Stirling 202

    6: Bonnyrigg 188

    7: Stranraer 137

    8: East Fife 115

    9: Elgin 108

    10: Albion 56

So there you go for what it's worth. Thoughts!

Other than Forfar, Annan and Elgin, that's not a million miles away from where we are atm. A wee bit surprising. I think most folk felt there weren't any stand out teams before the season started, and there wouldn't be much between the teams.

No idea whether it'll end up that way by the end of the season though.
