  1. sorry lads a wee change of topic, the interview on club website with Michael Lamont in it he mentions my dad Willie Shields who has been doing the commentary of the home games to the hospitals in Ayr and to the blind supporters too who attend home games. My dad is 91 and has been doing this since 1955 from the studio above the gymnasium at the corner of the railway end. He first went to Somerset Park in 1936 as a 6 year old and you will never find a more loyal Ayr supporter than him. He maybe the oldest supporter still going to the home games.
  2. Bullen sounds like a decent shout as new manager...........like a lot of us on here I am quite excited at what he could do for us.
  3. am i right Ayr have never beaten St Mirren in the Scottish cup? I am sure Duncan C could tell us.
  4. by the way i saw the offer he made .........................someone i knew very well was a shareholder at the time
  5. back in 1988 he was the guy we needed but its down to opinions to how it worked out at the Rangers.............David Murray had an association with Ayr his dad or grandad was club secretary andhe went to watch Ayr as a young lad........so everyone can have their view on him but in 1988 i thought he was the right choice
  6. Hughie Sproat was a legend............maybe not the best goalkeeper i have seen at Ayr...........Davie Stewart for me in 70's and George Watson in the 80's but I did love it when Hughie Sproat wore the blue against the Celtic and green against the Rangers...............it did wind them up. Back then you could have a bit of banter with the goalie.
  7. it is true Mugen power - Tom Clydesdale was rhe manager of RBS in 1980's toearly 1990's - i knew him well. He is sadly no longer with us, died a long time ago. I did tell him he was wrong to turn down DavidMurray and we would regret it.
  8. He wason the board of drectors when Ayr turned down David Murray takeover in 1988................I told him to his face he was wrong..........
  9. just read the Hughie Sproat comments...........legend. I used to serve him when I worked in RBS sandgate ............. can remember Tom Clydesdale the manager asking to speak to him about his account.............guess what Hughie did a runner.............
  10. This might be a long post - i was at the game on saturday 1st game since 28 /12/19 v QOS irronically. Due to COVID etc its my first time back. Just to say I never missed a home game from 1971 to 1990 until I moved to Edinburgh and now Dunbar. So lads I am an Ayr fan thru and thru and I get it we need someone to replace Mark Kerr as a playmaker in the midfield - pure and simple the players we have are limited but they do try hard and give their best so I will not criticise them. I will always support Ayr and have seen the bad times in the mid 80's etc. In fact I was at the player of the year night at ST Nicholas Hotel in 1987 after we lost 3-2 to Stiriling Albion but Ally McLeod told us that night we will win the league next year and he was right. No matter how bad it might seem to some its not that bad, we are in the right league just now and we will stay up. This club of ours is in a better position and we may need a couple more years of Championship football but I think we will get back up to the Premiership. All I can ask is please support the team this season because I will and hopefully I will get to a few more games now. p.s. i was at 1973 scottish cupsemifinal v Rangers as an 8 year old and still remember the game.
  11. best left back ever is John Murphy...he is my all time favourite player for Ayr. I first saw him in 1970 play for Ayr I was 6 years old.
  12. We are going to be relegated via the playoffs.............there is no fight no guts in this team
  13. First went Somerset Park in 1970, my all time favourite player is John Murphy (mr consistency) never had a bad game what a legend, Dixie Ingram a superb header of a ball and hard as nails, big Sanny McAnespie would clatter the opossition centre forward in the first 15 mins partnered by the classy Ricki Flemming, Davie McCullough and Gordon Cramond small guys but great players, Brian McLaughlin was pure class, Stevo and Glynn Hurst loved watching both play , and Super Cally - Ian McAllister the best captain i have seen and what a leader on the park and of course wee Henry the twinkle toed magician
