Without checking form/results, I remember us being very much on a downwards spiral at that point with confidence as low as I can remember it being in the last few years. Vast majority of our support had us already relegated. Contrast that with now, we’re actually playing decent football and looking like confidence is growing.

Call me old fashioned, but I would rather we were shite with Scottish players than less shite with players an 1/8th Scottish. One of the most satisfying things about this Scottish squad is that we largely have been playing Scottish players (Adams and Gunn the obvious exceptions) and not just calling up anyone with an ancestral claim. The eligibility criteria in rugby obviously works in our favour, but it just makes the team really unrelatable. I’d personally not go down the route of ‘recruitment’ at international level the way that ROI and others try/have tried to do.
