I guess the biggest problem really, is the only nation we actively try and promote our game to is England, which for several reasons, is never going to work. Instead we should perhaps look to tap into different markets, particularly those with Scottish expats.

England is full of Scottish ex-pats, which is something the BBC choose to totally ignore.

  2. The BBC and Daily Record's cover of the story...
Perpetual also-rans Aberdeen are rumoured to be targeting Jess Thorup, some guy from Denmark who is the same nationality as ex-Gers legend Brian Laudrup. His first name is Jess, which is the same as former Don's player Eoin Jess, who was regularly linked to being signed by Walter Smith for Rangers during their 9 in a row title winning years, when Rangers won 9 Scottish Championship titles in a row, that's 9 of them, helping Rangers, founded in 1872, to become one of the world's most successful teams with 55 league titles to their name. We'll bring you more on this story when we've got Barry Ferguson's opinion of it.

Angus Gunn starting cracks me up. Gordon is out so the obvious choice would be your 2nd or 3rd choice keeper from recent squads. Instead a squad debutant gets the nod.

Unless the thinking is to make sure he's committed to Scotland it's either a massive kick in the teeth to the keepers on the bench or an indication that we have absolutely no depth.

It was obvious when neither of them got any playing time in the last round of friendlies that Clarke didn't rate either of them. Now he's talked a guy that had previously confirmed his Englishnish rather than play for Scotland to become a turn coat rather than play them. With Clarke's contract extension the only way Kelly or Clark are going to get a game is through an injury to Gunn, most likely during a match. Mind you, he'd probably rather put Porteous in goal instead if that happened. The two of them are now the very definition of making up the numbers.

  4. I expect the diddy clubs were told they vote for strict liability at their peril.

The bigots used to be allowed to use their own stewards at away games to make sure their mates could do what they want. I'd be surprised if this still wasn't the case.

I don't see home fans only for the bigots as tinpot at all. That it pisses both sets of fans off at the same time makes it worthwhile itself.

Whilst this all makes great reading and there is no doubt attendances are up (well they definitely are at St. Mirren anyway), I assume we shouldn’t kid ourselves that these stats aren’t heavily skewed by 2 clubs.

Totally and not helped by the number of times you play them. It's a pointless exercise.

I mean did they not have to submit their plans to Hampden/SPFL? They would have had access the day before to set it up surely.

Did nobody running the stadium or league think, hey glorifying guys who didn't accept Good Friday and run protection rackets in another country under the auspices of being freedom fighters is a good look for one of the three showpieces in our game.

    f**k me.

You're spot on but the cretins running the SPFL and Hampden wouldn't see a problem with it given sectarianism is part of their everyday life. That it's not even mentioned in the media 24 hours later says all you need to know. What a fucking disgrace.

To add to that though. It wasn't one of those 'shrug it off as a misunderstanding' type deals either.

It caused a lot of angst towards the board at the time and for a lot of St. Mirren supporters, was pretty much a summary of why they were tired of a BoD who had run out of ideas and were more and more outwardly looking like they didn't give a f**k anymore. Letting the facilities out when we weren't using them was one thing, smart even as we were not using them and in a time of lower cashflow but the oversight that led to them rebranding the club shop made us look really shoddy.

Much as I loathe the bigots, given all the circumstance I don't get the outrage at this. I take it the shop was selling Celtic stuff to Celtic fans attending Celtic games at a stadium you'd hired out to Celtic while you were all away. Adding a sign for a few days seems the least of the things to get irate about here.
