I heard Pollok are paying nearly £300 a week for a player who has just re-signed

Hahahah I wish mate. Not going to say Pollok don’t pay good wages for the level. I think only Talbot and of course Darvel will probably have a higher budget. But absolutely no chance the manager would b allowed to pay that out.

Tbh hes a good player but aye dont goto darvel. Have pollok signed anyone? Been very quiet over ur way

    Mon the papers

Yes very quiet. Still have 22 players I think though a few more will probably leave. Only think Lok will be in for 4 or 5 so not many. Haven’t heard many names which is a little concerning.

Is he off 2 darvel aswell?

    Mon the papers

Been rumoured for a while. He’d be daft to go as the boy from Forfar will be playing every week. Hopefully he stays a Pollok, another good season and he might get pretty good interest from higher up the pyramid.

Danny McKenzie was hugely important to how we played this season.
He got injured in the cup at Clydebank in early February and hardly kicked a ball since. Our results from then show the importance of him to our side.

Took us until end of April to realize we needed to change formation to cope without him.

The main beneficiary to Grant singing, where Gaz McCann missed out. A solid player, always 7/10 each week and whilst I’d like him to stay at the ‘Lok, not the loss that someone like Sideserf or Esplin would be.

Be interesting to see what they do with the withdrawal of Darvel from this cup.  The WOSFL want all their competitions with a sponsor. Do they hammer them or will they be scared to in case their chairman pulls the sponsorship of the cup.

There has to be. Hurlford previously aired worries about the competition and if they could compete due to player shortages. Henderson did an interview saying they were told there would be penalties.

Let's be serious for a minute here, the LL was not the target for Darvel. Another year in the WoSL is an absolute disaster as it simply burns more money, and the threat of Auchinleck beating you to the title remains.

It’s not just Talbot. Pollok I reckon are three new signings and two retentions away from mounting a sustained challenge. Clydebank probably need a similar number of signings. Buffs have the Syme cash to splash. Could very well by a 5 horse race, at least for a large portion of the season.

Historically of course the junior cup had prestige. But it is a tournament of the Junior era. It’s finished. The East clubs are gone and won’t be back. Slowly but surely the big ex junior clubs will leave as well.

  8. The West is now a bigger tournament than the Junior Cup. Harder to win as the quality of opposition is higher.

It is the 2nd most prestigious trophy behind the Challenge Cup and represents a chance for Pollok, Hurlford or Kilwinning to win a first piece of silverware as a “senior” club.

Like Cambuslang, Darvel should be fined and barred from playing in the West of Scotland cup the next time they are in tier 6, be that next season or if whenever they are relegated back to tier 6. The three clubs still in have plenty of injury problems. We had 13/24 first team players for the Clydebank game.

Totally agree and am starting 2 think darvel only signed him to stop him from signing for us and making us better for next season cos they probably thought its talbot league plus they signed truesdale fae rob roy aswell after he agreed 2 sign for us.

    Mon the papers.

If they’ve signed Truesdale then why is there all these rumours that they’ve signed Matty Grant? :D

Rumours are rumours but surprised about three players in each position. Are squads still capped at 25 senior players?

How does it work with Cambuslang Rangers today saying eff it v Darvel.

Take it, Cambuslang Rangers must be out next year's West of Scotland cup.

    Or mibbee no.

That’s even worse in my opinion. Devalues the competition. Would think a ban from next year and a hefty fine.

    Correct me if wrong;

Blantyre spot they will have issue fielding a team due to a major sporting event. Approach league and request a change of date. The Glens who really want the game to played (have ordered pies, made arrangements and may or may not see the advantage in playing a depleted side) say naw we want the fixture to go ahead.

Leagues hands are tied as kennie informs rules mean that both sides have to agree to a change of date.

Glens stick to guns. Blantyre may have had to weigh up the punishment of not turning up against showing up with whoever is available.

Blantyre go on to start game with 7 players, one goes off, game abandoned by ref.

So all the circumstances and allegations aside…

Blantyre attended and had enough players to start the game with the officials approval. The ref then abandoned the game following it starting. (Think starting may be key here) So had Blantyre not shown up or been unable to field a team and game was never started… Glens would be awarded the win and guessing Blantyre would have questions to answer/face sanctions for not for filling a fixture.

At the core then, as the match had officially started and was then abandoned. It has to be replayed???

I don’t see it as being any different as say the game starting with 11v11 and Blantyre receiving 4 red cards and then an injury forcing a player to go off. In that situation the game would rightly be awarded to Glenafton. Players at this level should be players first and supporters second. They get paid, imagine not turning up to your job to watch Rangers and expect a wage.

I feel for Glencairn, I really do. For sheer connivence it suits me more with Rutherglen in the same legaue as Pollok instead of an Ayrshire side.

Anything other than 3 points for Glenafton sets a dangerous line  that clubs will abuse. Much like the SJFA’s handling of our game with Irvine Vics. Going out a cup? Start a scrap. Not bothered about playing cause your team are watching Rangers? Field 7 and get the game abandoned and have another shot.

They won't have issues with not winning next season, they will be heavy favourites to win the Lowland League if they go up.

You Tube FC are making some decent signings as well. Won’t be as clean a run as it’s been in the past few seasons.

If you need a piss there is spanking new toilets for you to visit - male, female and accessible toilets !!

In terms of where Pollok are now, I agree, we have an excellent ground for this level. And arguably the next few tiers too.

Toilet and disable access faculties suitable for the crowd size we get. A main stand, that while could do with some paint, is one of the things that make Newlandsfield the great ground it is.

Last night v Bankies was a prime example. Packed of fans cheering on their team, generating a great atmosphere with around 500 under the enclosure.
Even going back to the 3-3 draw with Talbot when it was monsoon weather, and everyone was packed in the stand in a game with 1000 attendance - again the atmosphere that day was as good as I have seen at this level.

In addition the whole way around the ground the standing areas allow good vantage points - not always the case for many clubs where it’s not tiered

Additional covered space IMO isn’t really needed due to the size of the stand we have, and seating would be nice to have at the moment. I look at the grounds with seats in them and rarely do I see them half full.

Or if you are feeling traditional the famous “Pish Wall” is still standing.

  14. One step at a time. Getting the floodlights in was the initial big exercise, that has been achieved. As far as expanding the ground there is a little wiggle room but it’s very much what we have.

Seats aren’t something I’d personally use nor do I think they should be criteria until tier 2 at the minimum. The guys behind the scenes who dealt with the licensing are very clued up on it, know what’s required and will let the rest of us know what’s to be done next.

  15. Darvel’s consistency has been impressive. When Clydebank then Pollok and now Talbot hit a bad spell they kept going. With all the issues on the postponements (albeit they take some of the blame in that) it’s more impressive.

Looking forward to next season now. Can Pollok, Clydebank and Kilwinning challenge Talbot (if Talbot even want to win it)?

  16. I get that there is perhaps a lack of willing hosts but unless the final is between Glenafton and Auchinleck (which it can’t be) Cumnock is a poor choice to host a showpiece final.

Great terracing and pie hut. But poor transport links for the majority of the region and a plastic pitch are big no nos for me. If the final is to be hosted in Ayrshire then Meadow Park is the prime venue.

Gall on FB today referring to Shotts, their next opponents, as Banjo Country.

How to win friends and influence people the Darvel Project way.

😂😂😂 I have been to Darvel and Shotts. If I had to choose to live in one or the other I’d choose Shotts.

Darvel is the only place I’ve never got an O2 phone signal!
