Having travelled to watch Pollok at Gartcairn for the first time, I was shocked at what is their home ground, very sterile, not fan friendly, no toilets, no pie/boviril stall and no home support (there might have been a couple of fans). How this is allowed to happen is a clear example of how more & more clubs are run at this level, and why the powers that be are way out of depth in terms of organisation, forethought and stewardship.

Pollok have an ongoing "secret project" where they are in advanced negotiations to have a piece of land reclassified to enable a Gartcairn type cage to be built for future home games. My understanding is that memebers will get to vote on the matter however the strategy, as there are no updates or transparency, is that the execs & the hidden figures will argue that this deal MUST be done (no other alternative to be explored and no time to do so) because of the following

    * Alot of secret work and time has already been put in

    * If we don't vote yes it could be years before another option becomes available

    * Our main sponsor will quickly buy Newlandsfield

    * Will take too long to put the sale on the open market

    * Our main sponsor has been very generous throughout this difficult period & previously and therefore should be allowed to buy the land without competition

    * We need the money now

The above will be the reasons given by the exec to push through a yes vote and not wait for a more suitable piece of land and not go to the open market for the sale of Newlandsfield.

Be under no illusion the above reasons are a preplanned and specific strategy to manipulate and coerce the members into voting yes by telling them there is no time and no money. Be aware that this will not be close to being the best deal for Pollok either medium or long term.

I suppose the first thought is that the new ground maybe fantastic & perfect, and we will get the best price and contractual terms & conditions possible for Newlandsfield despite not putting the land on the open market, be under no illusion Newlandsfield will be one of the most sought after pieces of land in Scotland when it goes up for sale - Why would any land owning business want their much sought after land not to go to the open market for sale..??

This is why - the club is in a self inflicted precarious financial situation, has a strange relationship with its main sponsor (land developer/house builder) and the execs are way out of their comfort zone in terms of their ability to put together and deliver a multi million pound deal which would include the sale of Newlandsfield and the construction of its alternative.

Why is the project secret, it should be shouted far and wide that the land will be up for sale at some point to encourage as may suitors as possible (more interest = more money & better terms/conditions)

Be assured, there are alternative ways to finance Pollok FC in the short term without selling the land or detroying the squad.

What are the plans for the new location - is there a vision and or even a basic design which will allow Pollok FC to be sustainable & competitive for decades to come. Is the land big enough to potentially have

    * Grass stadium

    * Other pitches & changing rooms (for additional income)

    * Parking

    * Social club (additional income & general meeting point for the Pollok faithfull)

    * Community space (school dinner clubs, charities etc)

    * Area(s) that could be leased to another business (for additional income)

I'm told that almost all of the above is not being considered

The people who are in charge of this project and the club are the very ones who have driven Pollok the business into freefall but want the members & supporters to trust them but offer no transparency and no substantiated assurances that financial meltdown won't happen again.

A culture of cliques, secrets & lies, arrogance, inability and financial mismanagement have driven the club to the brink - The situation with the ground and where we go next is yet another example of their inability to do the right thing!! To say their decision making process is laughable would be a massive understatement.

Members & supporters need to keep asking questions and challenging decisions & answers. The exec do not want to be questioned as this will highlight their inability and hidden agendas. If you get an answer, ask for backup to that answer as they have a history of being a bit hit or miss with the truth surrounding answers.

Following another request for money I'm told members are attending another EGM on Wednesday this week - If you're a member, ask questions, demand clear substantiated answers and full transparency.

This is a once and a lifetime opportunity to give Pollok FC (with the correct vision) the foundations to be a sustainable and extremely competitive community club potentially including soccer schools, walking footbal, ladies football and generally a safe & welcoming environment for those who want to be associated with Pollok FC. A location which the southside can get behind and be proud of for generations to come.

There won't be many more opportunities to seriously challenge the execs and others before the smoke and mirror circus starts again and you end up standing watching Pollok in a Gartcairn like cage and being regularly asked to contribute cash to help make up for the continued poor decision making and financial mismanagement of the club.

    More to follow..............

I seem tae remember a plan like that at Irvine meadow a few years ago.

is the fella that embarrassed himself oan the park against the talbot still involved at Pollok. Kerr seems a similar situation.

sure it Wis in the local papers. Shannon wid be able to tell u mare.

It’s interesting how this is something that is often said when it comes to Talbot but not many others.

Yesterday Pollok starting XI had 6 players signed by Maxi since the summer. Same for 2 of the 3 subs.

With us on course for a top 6 finish too with a final to look forward to.

Pollok ur serial underachievers. Still kick aboot like the aristocrats of the West.
Even the fact that ye regard that as gid shows how far you’ve let yer expectations drap!
top 6 holy Moses man it’s no the premier league.

As it stands just now we would need 8 wins from 9 games to win league.  That just ain’t going to happen when you consider we still have the two teams that won tonight (glens home and away, Largs away ) it is nonsense to say it’s our league to lose there is a ton of football to be played and when you consider we are very inconsistent at the moment….are we favourites probably,  but it certainly isn’t our league to lose.

    Bad nicht at the office.

Very inconsistent but goin by the league the maste consistent. What was the pints yous won it wi last year?

  5. That was a gid auld fashion dust up. Played in the right spirit. Draw fair. Thought Beith edged the first hauf, oan chances but we coulda went 2-0 up wi Nelly’s heeder.

Both teams coulnae find a winner. No the best technical game but 2 teams gieing it what the had.

Beith ur a gid side talbot hiv came oan a tonne.

Aye, every second day in the first week of May probably.

The anomaly is Clydebank who wull have nearly a month aff.
As I said back then “scheduling a few missed Saturdays“ for the Bankies woulda stopped the league becomin disjointed. I wis shot down.

Now the judge, jury and executioner is oan yer case Kennie!

Tough joab somebodies got tae dae it.

Eftur this weekend Beith and Talbot wull have played the same games. And we’ve only 2/3 hopefully 4 more fixtures than them. And we’ve the midweek game next week so no as bad as it seems. Especially if we win all three next week!

  7. Aw ticket. C’mon tae buggery! It’s the junior cup. Numpties!
Hope we’ve hammered them in the first leg an naebody goes.

This wul be revenge for the classless remarks towards Talbot, when ye won the league.
Talbot were always wee JGs marker. I hope we bury his last hope o going oot oan a high, you’ll no be winnin oor trophy. Shame to see big Andy and Gee huv tae take a doing but no that wee walloper. Hit him wear it hurts Talbot, the pokit, make his last act to fill the wages for the last month. Not a soul be near the place if we win by 3 or more

Bye John, don’t let the door skelp ye oan the arse oan the wiy oot!

    Rant over!

I'd double check the maths -

    Beith 72

    Talbot 68

    Darvel 67

    St Cads 65

    Clydebank 62

To add a bit of context to those totals Beith have dropped 18 points in 19 games so there's hope for any team in the chasing pack that can finish the season strongly.

65pts could win it, what won it last year?

  9. Leagues anybody’s wi Beith slight favs.
Quite exciting actually. Nae deed rubber games.

    Gies yer top 5 everybody.

    Beith

    Talbot

    Darvel

    St Cads

    Clydebank

In truth ye could reverse that. Clydebank need to win all six remainin to huv a chance. St Cads twice and they’re an Astro team.

Can some clever yin put oan the maximum possible points for teams, that’s usually a decent bit of information, given gemes played are all over the shop.

  10. They’re 9th huvnae won a geme in the last 5 tbf a couple of Scottish wins on pens. They should be pissing the league. Beat aff Drumchapel, beat aff Threave and beat aff Kilbirnie so no won in a month.

they’ve spent a fortune. No the results I would have assumed.

u giving it the defensive cos yer playin them this weekend! Aye im no as daft as a look!

You see, this is why the vast majority of the WoSFL Board avoid this forum.

I, on the other hand, try occasionally to be informative, and correct mis-information where I see it being posted. Most times, though, that leads to a debate and somebody challenging me to justify this or that or the next thing.

The WoSFL Board is elected by the clubs, with representatives proposed and seconded by the 80 member clubs. That is really who the Board answer to, I have no need to justify decisions on here, although as I said on occasion I try to do so to be helpful. Usually it leads to some sort of negativity, but hey, I expect that.

As for Broadwood, as far as I am aware, not one single club has raised an issue with the league about the offices being located there, nor have the clubs complained about the finals being there.

The clubs have the power to change things, so if you're not happy then lobby your clubs to raise a proposal to change things.

    I appreciate the reply.
The finals no been held there before.

The west disnae get a huge gate.

I’m sure wance it’s known you’ll get plenty clubs objectin but ultimately it only affects 2 at the end o the day.

When wid the clubs be asked/notified about possible venues.

  12. My eyes ur bleeding readin this. Jim is totally right here. Huv a final cos they give you a decent office, frig the fans.

Pollok Irvine Meadow Winton Park Kilbirnie Talbot Cumnock Beith Rutherglen Darvel  - All gid gruns capable o hosting finals. Depending on who’s in them.

A Fans Criteria - Decent transport links, Grass surface, Partial cover (minimum).

WoSFL criteria - Cheap office to rent , gid facilities (for who - not the fans).

This might seem harsh but that’s wit it looks like. If Glensmad can offer any other reason then I’m happy to accept but that is a disgrace to the WoSFL clubs, money piling out the game.

    Bloody bonkers.

  13. Darvel are oan the wiy backwards.
Syme an Leishman be away’ for money in tha summer. 4th this year 8th next. 1st division loomin!

Happens tae teams who try take take the crown of the well run AT.
Throwing money gets you there. Need sustainable planning tae stay there.

  14. How hus Clydebank got another league fixture when the cup games are oan?

Only league in the country where teams huv huge disparities in gemes played. Sense wid be tae keep Clydebank idle this week an let teams catch up.

Bankies gonnae have a few free weeks at the business end. They’ll be moaning then. There’s nae need the big difference wi midweek options.

  15. Wee Tony only won wan meaningful game against Talbot in his puff.

He’ll no sleep easy, heard Dervels new committee in waiting planning changes. Tony no be there regardless.

Talbot Burgh final. We always seem to end up playing these mercenaries. There’s no wan managed to get the long term better of The Bot.
    Without bankruptin there selves.
