Who is going to loan us a goalie to sit on the bench all season? And what goalie would want to be loaned out to sit on the bench? It defeats the purpose of a loan.

I think it will be very difficult for us to get anyone. Some clubs might use the carrot of becoming a goalie coach to get them to sign up as number 2, but we've already done that with Hutton.

Simple solution is bin Hutts and bring in a new No.2/goalie coach!

What updates do you expect about new players if there aren't any? And the club announced a few days ago about re-signings saying they were in talks with the players. If the players haven't signed yet then what announcement do you want?

I'm not really sure why it matters the club shop is shut during the close season for a week, how much trade would they be getting at this time? Other clubs are just starting to bring out season tickets now, and many still haven't, same with strips.

If the club haven't got things in place when it matters I'll criticise, but I'm not sure what people are expecting at the moment.

It's called humour, try and let some into your life!

  3. Club shop now shut for a week, no update on new players, re-signings, new strip, season tickets or anniversary plans. How not to run a club. Don't worry though, the NL Cup is just around the corner. Reminds me of The Dirty Dozen, Rhys takes 12 assorted misfits and trys to mould them into a team before ditching 10 of them and naming 2 under 16's on the bench plus Hutton for the first Viaplay Cup game. We'll STILL get promoted though because it's the Airdrie way!

The Facebook group at times suffers from 3 very real problems. 1. Utterly inane and attention seeking posting. 2. A fair chunk of utter knuckle dragging at times verging on genuinely disturbing posting (most recently on the Sal situation). 3 some genuinely terrible takes. Like, pick the worst, most clueless possible opinion to hold about anything to do with the club and it's there.

Sounds like you're a regular facebook visitor, occasional poster? If you don't like memes you can scroll past them you know! Some might think your judgemental opinions could be seen as being divisive within the support? Each to their own I say but I suppose this is your playground so I'll agree to disagree.....

I'd imagine we'll get an update in the next few days or at some point next week to see who is staying or going. Some of the players will be on holiday and I think it was around the end of May last year when we found out who officially signed contract extensions.

It would be amazing to keep the core of the squad together from last season, Gabby, Ballantyne, Rae, Smithy, Frizz, Gal and Devenny, would even go as far as offering two year deals and Ballantyne a year's extension. I said on here last season I was quietly confident that we'll keep the majority of the team together and I think we will this season, Smith seems most likely to go but I think the rest will stay, had we stayed in league 1 I think a good few would've left.

Going to be intriguing to see who we bring in, I love 'Silly Season' when random rumours get banded around. Not long until we see someone on the Facebook Group suggest signing the likes of 'Kyle Connell' and 'Jordan Allan' 😆

Intrigued! Is P&B too highbrow for someone to suggest Kyle Connell as a signing? Some folks on here have a right downer about the facebook group and I really don't understand it.

I'm not sure, I think Fordyce holds the defence together from the middle and is excellent in the air. If there is a late aerial bombardment you want him in the centre. ATS left and Ballantyne right would probably he my call, ATS doesn't quite have the legs like he used to but with a goal advantage he can stay pretty deep and narrow to start with and see how it goes.

Agreed! ATS left back, Cammy on the right, Rhys and Dycey in the middle, McMaster or Telfer start. Thought Telfer did well tonight when he came on.

  7. If you had to pick one defender to lose for the 2nd leg you would've picked Janny. A very soft 2nd yellow. We've got options though so it doesn't concern me too much. Accies looked sharper than us 1st half. They also looked fairly solid in defence which isn't that surprising as they've had plenty of defensive practice all season. They offered nothing up top all game though and fell away in the 2nd half, especially after we got our goal. All to play for on Saturday, it's going to be nervy but I think we'll do it!

I think we'll stick with mcglynn for one more season whether the fans like it or not. I presume you guys will be the same if you don't go up McCabe will be kept on for another punt.

IMO this year's play off is a free hit for McCabe. He was a radical choice of manager but his decision to take the job helped us retain the core quality of last season's team. We only really lost Dylan Easton and we've recruited not bad with Cammy Ballantyne & Josh Rae coming in. Threadbare player-wise at the start of the season but looking back, can see that McCabe was looking for quality rather than filling bums on the bench. It's also been pleasing to see how much he has improved players like Cal Gallagher who's had the season of his life and big ATS who has done a great job for us. Our academy boys are showing a lot of promise too. It's all positive for us at the moment but the only downside on the horizon is that if we don't go up, we face the real prospect of loosing key players like Frizz. The only failure for me this season has been signing Telfer. You can't win them all!

Maybe in my delusional head, it would be good to see a strong Airdrie in Scottish football, where you can fill one stand and at least half of another stand. Growing up in the early 90s, some of my fondest memories are our battles with Airdrie with good crowds from both sides so I say “sadness” in a genuine way.

Such as it is, that was actually a very decent home support for us last night. I'd also love to go back 30 years too but sadly it is what it is attendance-wise. There was actually guys beside me last night who were saying "I don't like this, it's too busy!!" You're obviously a fan from the same generation as myself. What's the way forward for Falkirk? You shouldn't be grubbing around in the 3rd tier! Don't be like us, the longer you stay the more conditioned you become to it, like being in jail!

    So touchy.

Happy not touchy but if I come across as touchy because I'm happy then I suppose I am touchy. The constant stream of "We're bigger than you", "You've got no fans", "Clydebank in disguise" banter coming from you lot is just like a wounded animal lashing out and I totally get that. You're hurting and angry and maybe a wee bit touchy! Keep the faith and you might come good one day. Positive vibes to you all.

I really don’t understand why folk get wrapped up in this pish. We’ve just been absolutely scudded! I’m not so up on the history of what happened towards the end of Airdrie/Clydebank other than we actually benefitted from it in 2002 by not going down to a place where we find ourselves for season after season. Far from oneupmanship, I find it quite sad they can only half-fill a stand for such a big game. Is it the lure of being so close to the Old Firm? I don’t know but it’s not our look-out.

Give me the days where rivalry meant shouts like ‘soap-dodgers’ or ‘living in a slum’ rather than trying to be a smart arse any day!

To be fair, it is a big stand!!! (and we own it too like all proper big clubs!) Please don't feel sad for us though, we're quite happy with our lot. If it's a "We're bigger than you because we have more fans than you" scenario then I accept that you are the bigger club and I hope my admission makes you feel a wee bit less sad than you obviously will do this morning. Numbers have dwindled at Airdrie due to years and years in League 1. Be careful, it could happen to you. Keep paying the rent and you'll be fine. There's always a home for you in places like Cumbernauld and Larbert if you need to "downsize". Much love and best wishes to you and your club for the future from us "Giantkillers!"

I can't see him getting sacked by the board even after last nights shambles.  He's on a two year deal so I think he'll be given another year to get us out of this league. A poor start to next season or a failure to get out the league a year from now then he won't be here but I don't think they will twist after one season.

Looks like an easier league on paper for next season. Every cloud and all that! I think your season ticket holders will make or break McGlynn's tenure. A pretty unique situation where fan power may determine the way ahead for your club.

You say that but older experienced  managers in the main are the ones that have had more  success in league one over the past few years. McCall twice , mcglynn, Campbell, Hartley have all got clubs up to the championship. Likes of Mcpake are more the exception than the rule.

Fair point. So you'll be sticking with McGlynn then??

Season ended last night which tbh I feared we’d get beat, but not the humiliation and abhorrent display.
Firstly congratulations to Airdrie, you lost your managerial team and decided to go with player/manager set up, a few shrewd signings and last night as bad as we were, you played some great football and credit where’s it’s due.
Where does the club go from here? I honestly don’t think the BOD will even make a statement till after Saturdays game. Will McGlynn walk - not a chance in hell as guaranteed wage for next season. Will the BOD recognise that keeping the existing manager will seriously affect new STs and renewals? - not sure.
Some major decisions to be made, my genuine fear is no change and this clown gets next season. I’ve said already that Nesbitt getting two year deal should have set the alarm bells ringing.

Very magnanimous of you but knowing Airdrie, it's not quite over yet! The player/manager appointment was a big risk and we've seen some crazy results and performances this season, last night being no exception. Bottom line is you shouldn't be in this league. We shouldn't be in this league either. Trailing away to absolute dumps like Meadowbank and Kelty, watching 20 Edinburgh fans celebrating pumping us 6-0 at home, we've had lows too in recent times. Stuck in this league for years, financial issues, change of ownership (sound familiar?). We've already been there and done that and I take no pleasure in seeing "big" teams like you, Dunfermline, Thistle joining us down in the dump of League 1 over the last few seasons. Your time will come, I'm sure of it but from an outsider looking in, older managers like McGlynn are yesterday's men (although I accept that Chipper may be an exception). Unsure of the way forward for you, I'm sure you feel the same way but best of luck to you. You'll need it!

  15. Pressing Falkirk will be key as they have consistently looked shaky at the back when we've pressured them for spells in every game this season. The 4-3 Dunfermline game was the same. Our best line of defence is attack, if we sit back we're fucked. Kennedy and Morrison are quality but we've got quality too. Too close to call, my heart says us but I'm afraid my head says Falkirk. Either way, it will be very close. Whoever wins gets promoted IMO. I think our best 11 picks itself, the only debate is pie selection for the 2nd leg, haggis &peppercorn? donner? Bring it on!(the games & the pies!)
