I think the two players we have missed the most this season compared to last are Daniel Mckay and Jay Henderson.  Both of them had pace to stretch the game and we don't have anyone like that now.  I'm not saying they were both brilliant all the time, clearly they both had ups and downs and poor performances, but we didn't replace them at all.

The players you mentioned would make a huge difference to any championship club excluding us, as Ferguson would try and shoehorn them into right or left central midfield just like Shaw.

I am curious to see if DF is willing to adapt tactics next season. The overly defensive style is relatively understandable in a relegation scrap, but there’s surely no way it’s creative enough to raise the club anywhere near promotion.

We’ve been treated to Dan Mackay, Logan Chalmers, Shaw and Henderson - another season of Wallace Duffy wingback, no thanks.

  2. If Ferguson avoids relegation he deserves to remain next season in my opinion - after all that was his remit when appointed.

Regardless of the above I’m not looking forward to him staying beyond this season. I can’t stand the style / tactics, he’s dropped some of the worst performances and there’s been far too many to be considered blips. We are consistently honking and everyone knows it. I think outwith a couple, his transfer dealings have been poor. His man management by the sounds of things is seriously lacking too. I could go on.

Obviously a full pre season and summer transfer window can address things but he hasn’t inspired much confidence in me but I’ll support him should he stay.

There is absolutely no way Inverness lose today. I have never been more confident of points in my life.

Morton have only picked up 4 more points than us since Mr Dunc was appointed. I wish Morton all the best for the remainder of the season but that statistic hopefully allows folk to recognise Morton aren’t all that.

This isn’t really a reaction to getting beat today, as Hibs are obviously a much better team but we need to ditch this formation and/or be more direct.

We aren’t going to stay in this division by nicking games by scoring one goal.

We’ve brought in a new defence, when the one we had was okay for the bottom half of the championship and no addressed that actual problem which is going forward.

I can’t wrap my head around it either. The new system tightened up our defence and I don’t believe the new defenders are any better or worse than what we already had. They seem slightly pointless signings currently.

The formation is ridiculously boring I agree - totally understand it for away matches but not home matches. I was surprised to read on social media some folk claiming things were better under Billy Dodds, they craved for an identity and now we have it.

    Wingers please.

On your last point, the difference is that this was Dodds 3rd season in charge so that’s 3 pre seasons, 3 summer windows and 2 January windows he had and our squad was significantly worse and there still wasn’t a really a style of play. Whether that’s down to budgets or him not being able to spot a player, we’ll never really know. Dunc’s not had a pre-season and he’s only had a January window which isn’t really the ideal time to be looking for players, unless you’re splashing the cash of course.

If in a years time we’re putting in similarly shite performances I can bet most of us on here will be as negative about Dunc as we were Dodds.

The budget was cut this season apparently and I do exonerate Dodds from much of the transfer market dealings as we had a director of football above him.

In regards to your last paragraph, if results and performances are still shite in 1 year you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be going down on the Big Dunc Ship just like Mr Dodds’!

For those that are at the games, what are we doing better under Ferguson compared to Dodds?

To be clear I'm not advocating that Dodds shouldn't have been sacked. I think he had to go but I feel like we are just as rudderless right now and I'm becoming more and more convinced that we are heading for League 1 via the playoffs.

The obvious difference is we have a clear style / formation now which has been alluded to above. I mainly attend home matches and it’s been tough viewing for the most part.

The target under Dodds was promotion and under Ferguson avoid relegation, so it’s difficult to compare much.

I would just say if Dodds was in charge for some of Fergusons performances and results this season some folk on this thread would’ve imploded.

  7. I don’t feel overly confident letting Welsh leave is a good decision. I don’t think comparing him to Doran is a perfect example either, in that Doran is a total has-been whereas Welsh is still one of our best players.

This only makes sense to me if either we’re bringing in someone of a similar or better standard (which won’t be easy) and/or he gets injured for Queens Park. If he remains fully fit for the next 4 months that’s a problem for us.

Apparently Connor Smith is being recalled by Hearts, who was linked with us on social media in the summer.
