We have been pretty strongly linked to Kofi Balmer as well. There's surely not a chance we bring in 2 central defenders with potentially only Charles Dunne leaving.

A central defensive pool of Gogic, Fraser, Bolton, Taylor and one of Bedeau or Balmer is the start of a really strong spine.

Need the goalkeeper position sorted, an attacking RWB and one or two other central midfielders and another attacking player and I don't think we are far away from a good team for next year.

I can see Gogic playing in midfield or Central defence depending on who,s available.  I don't have a problem with us signing two Central defenders , think Robbo will make us very.hard to beat  .

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for them overspending on folk like McNair as I'd rather see Baccus go outside of Scottish football. But likes of Middlesbrough could easily replace McNair with Baccus for a whole lot less money and he could handle the Championship without issue.

Wouldn't surprise me if he went to Boro . Think there was a Boro player at the last World Cup playing for Australia so they will have had good a good look at him . And would have been keeping an eye on his progress .

Yup. It has ever been thus and losing those players never seems to get any less disappointing/annoying.

Back in the day, I remember being devastated as a young lad to lose players like McGarvey, McAvennie and Clarke, but the blow was softened massively by the fact they all went to top English sides. I never could and never will get used to losing players to the likes of Aberdeen, Dundee United or Hibs. I know their spending power is greater than ours but it still sticks in the craw.

But you’re right, as much as it pains me to say it, we’re better keeping our house in order, even if it means losing players to our competitors.

Though I was disappointed to see these players go , I always saw these transfers  as an opportunity to improve the squad as we got a decent transfer fee . The best example being McGarvey leaving and Somner and McDougall being bought with the transfer fee . Unfortunately when Gogic goes there's no transfer fee . That said I'm confident we will have a decent replacement coming in .

    Almost definitely.

If they are comfortable to let him leave a year early then they'll want a sizeable chunk of a sell on, same as Brentford were holding out on for Aaron Pressley last season.

Or....they could be knocking it back as we also do have someone that they apparently want and they may be holding back Balmer as a makeweight.

Any clues who Crystal Palace like the look of ?

I can remember Kwon and Baccus being in the same squad, but I can't remember them ever being on the pitch at the same time... I wonder if Robinson thinks they're too alike. It would be interesting to see how they got on together with them both breaking up play and getting in the grids of the opposition.

I would love to see both of them in central midfield with Kiltie and OHara and one main striker . Think we would be very hard to beat .

Last time I spoke with Iain was at the celebration of winning the Anglo Scottish Cup. It might have been the 35th anniversary in 2015.

Iain travelled (I assume at his own expense) from USA to be at the event.

He came across as such a humble guy who says that his time at St Mirren was the greatest period in his career.

I don’t believe he ever won international recognition or trophies with any other club bar St Mirren.

He qualifies for the Hall of Fame.

What appears to tarnish his reputation at our club is the 24 hour period when he was appointed our manager.

From what I understand he was informed that not all the directors were in favour of his managerial appointment so he felt from day 1 he did not have the backing of the board so he resigned.

    Unbeaten manager!

    Unbelievable left back!

His partnership with Peter Weir was out fcuking standing.

Great player . Mind him driving his Lotus Europa also mind his debut second time round in the Anglo Scottish Cup in 1977 against Notts County . Nobody knew we signed him until kick off .

I wonder who the manager was referring to before Xmas when he mentioned two players coming in on PCA agreements.
I didn’t believe Spittal was one of them as we all knew bigger clubs would have been looking at him for next season.

Reckon one is Jacob Bedeau , just a guess as we have been linked with him before and he becomes a free agent this summer .

Had hoped the other was Spittal , but he,s off to Hearts .

Wonder if the other one could be an Australian player . Just a thought as the two Australian players that have come to us have done well , and agents are likely to try and get  players to teams that will help their players progress .

Read somewhere that full stand is just under 4500. Top tier is slightly smaller than bottom due to exits so I'd imagine about 2000 so far

I'm thinking its about 3,300 behind each goal and 4,500 in each of the stands going down the side of the ground . The capacity us just over 15,000 .

On another note , can fans access top or bottom tiers when they get in the stand . It would make sense just to open up the full stand for Saints so there's no massive rush to grab seats together at 2.55 .

Hoping Saints deliver next week .

  9. We played very well today , lost a bit of energy for the last quarter , but in general a good performance, we would have benefited from having OHara and Kwon available to bring fresh legs to the midfield and as the season progresses having the extra cover in midfield might swing  a few close games in our favour .

Think we are still very much an on form team and if we keep up our current form we should be pushing for top four . Thinking European football is a distinct possibility.

Since Strain is normally knacked around the 70mins make, Elvis will be a good sub for him and i expect he will still get mins on the pitch most games.

Much as I rate Strain as a full back , I don't think he will walk straight into the first team . It will take him a few matches to get match ready , then he has to prove he,s a better option than Elvis who will improve week on week . Great problem to have .

  11. Saw Sutherland play 20 minutes at Montrose and felt he was more of a left winger . Very skilful but lightweight . He came to St Mirren from Rangers youth set up and showed up very well pre season . I think St Mirren would like to see how he  does as a left wing back . Probably at a stage in his career where he's trying to find his right position . Think he might be a pleasure to watch on Alloas AstroTurf as he,s a very tricky player .
