  1. I understand why folk don't want to be associated with the OF. But like it or not, with Scott Brown & Aiden McGeady in the place, we do have links, which we'd be crazy not to capitalise on. Whether in terms of organising friendly games, or signings/ loan deals. For me, it would be quite nice to see Somerset Park full & bouncing, to kick off the new season.

Where do we fit them all in though? Surely we wont end up with the new stand being full of Celtic fans on the opening day?

I was both the 1986 games. For the New Year game, I went with my dad and we gave a lift to two Killie supporting uncles. After the match I sat in the car feeling very smug.

    😆

I probably remember the antics of the crowd more than the football. There was a bit of an edge to it. Had'nt been to game with that kind of atmosphere before. Spent most of the game near the fence, enjoying winding up the Killie fans. But tbh shat it, when we had to make our way through the Killie fans to get to our bus at the end. Survived to tell the tale of course!

The game where our run at the 1st Division following the 87/88 2nd Division title win came to a grinding halt. 2-0 up and coasting until a season ending injury to Cally let Dunfermline back into it and we never really challenged again.

Great crowds in those days on the back of one of Ayr’s most entertaining ever teams. Templeton was a delight to watch - what a pass for Sludden’s goal. Joe Love and Brian Ross didn’t really improve the previous year’s team - remember Ross getting hooked after about 20 minutes against someone. Dunfermline were an annoying team full of wanks like Bobby Smith John Watson and Ross Jack - half the team were called Smith from memory.

My 1st Ayr game was around this time. I recall Ayr beating Killie 2-1 at Rugby Park. Which I would've guessed was probably the 87/88 season. Looking back at results, seems it was maybe the season before that.

To be fait I was a wee bit disappointed by that too.

The fact that there's been no announcement yet about us being moved to the stand (I'm sure it was announced a couple of days before the game last time and assume they need time to arrange stewards/pie stand staff etc if the terrace is being used), I assume that it wasn't actually too bad a number for that point of the week.  Both clubs will have an idea of how ticket sales tend to go throughout the week and will make an estimate on the final number based on that.

Also, changed my mind again now and I am going to drive through for this.  I'll get home at about 6:30 instead of 8:15 if I took the train.  Need to drive to/from the station at my end and couldn't even have train beers so the car wins....sorry environmentalists.

Last time I drove to Somerset was a while ago.  Is there still plenty of parking in the streets around the ground?

I usually park on Walker Rd, near Hamiltons Butchers. 5 min walk at most & easy to get back out/ onto motorway on your way home.

I'd agree. I think he's handling the situation very well at the moment. You've only got to look at what the h*ns are writing over social media to see what we're up against. Hopefully after this game is by with, the circus will move on then we can concentrate on league survival and building for next season.

Free season ticket to the Ayr Fan that can secure the u*ion b*ars flag, tie it to the Ibr*x gates upside down and torch it ⚫⚪

    Don't tempt me! 😆

Think there is some truth in it, in a backhanded way. He was a fan of them and played in their youths for a bit.

Yeah I have heard that tbf, though I'm sure it was said, pretty tongue cheek though. Best way though I reckon, laugh off the hype/ noise around the game. He can clearly handle all that stuff pretty well.

  7. Haven't been to Dunfermline, ICT, Arbroath or Raith yet so can't really comment on them. But Arbroath sounds like it could be worth a trip. Maybe one day...

Might have gone for QP, I do actually quite enjoy the novelty of an almost empty Hampden stadium. But as a regular at Scotland games, it feels kind of like a home from home. So not sure it counts.

Partick? only has 3 stands, which is shit.

Dundee Utd is alright, I guess. But I stayed in Dundee for a while, & tbh I'm not really that keen on going back there.

Airdrie I actually quite enjoyed. Mainly due to the trip to the Time Capsule before it (which my kids loved) & a win, which always helps.

Despite the fact it always seems to be pishing down, mainly due to the proper old fashioned stadium, i have to grudgingly say Morton.

Mathie and Bullen have both said nothing will happen unless players leave. So we can try and convince them to go on loan or they can want to go out on loan, or they might want to leave altogether.

Ecripont has gone but it’s probably not going to cover a full, experienced pro’s wages. We may even be topping up his wage until the end of the season.
I would expect that Young and Senga will depart next week, but we may not have been picking up a full wage from them. So we’ll maybe have the wage for one player by next weekend.
The money from the player fund will cover a signing on fee.

The club has been far from engaging to the fans to try to get them to buy in to what they are doing. Putting out hashtags and saying at every opportunity that they are close to the community doesn’t mean they actually are. Getting fans buy in and making them feel like they are part of the journey helped us pay to keep Shankland & Moore.

The engagement is shocking, it builds up to a point the club has to do a Q&A or Mathie does a recorded interview. Player availability is non-existent week to week. Everything feels scripted when we get the weekly soundbites in the Post and Advertiser. Since Robbo took a vow of secrecy, we get nothing out the club that reassures people. They bring it on themselves.

Yeah I think lack of meaningful engagement/ communication is the hardest thing right now. 3rd bottom & in freefall with no plan to address weak points in squad. No attempts to get loan players who have played well, extended deals (Young) or tied down for next season (Chalmers/Dowds). And no attempt to get players who arent performing moved on or loaned out (could list half the squad here tbh). Whats the plan to avoid relegation? If Bullen isnt going to here next season 🙏, is there someone else in mind/ lined up? I dunno, maybe there is stuff going on behind the scenes, but it doesn't feel like it at the moment...
