  1. Carrying on from last week's performance, excellent display (particularly defensively) against the form team in the division. Aidan Connolly, Dylan Easton, Jack Hamilton and others looking way better under the new manager. Wee bit disappointed Lewis Gibson hasn't got as many minutes on the park recently, hopefully his time will come. Lost opportunity for both sets of fans not to start a collective stand up if you hate the pars chant.. probably my only other gripe on the day
  2. Fair play to him, but Ian Murrays agent seems to be doing a hell of a lot of overtime since the StJohnstone position became available?
  3. Joy to watch for around 80 minutes today, you can already see the difference the new manager is making Kieran Freeman was excellent today, Finlay Pollock looks a level above and Jack Hamilton looked a different player. No breaks going for us at the moment but I'm pretty optimistic going forward
  4. Pick of the bunch for me was Kent Bergersen, who after a quick google search, I see is the assistant manager of the Norwegian international team. Definite similarities, seen by outsiders as a harsh dismissal and a real gentleman by all accounts at the time.
  5. Beat me to it with the Bates transfer Iain Munro nearly signing a Scandinavian striker who, as it transpired, was a porn star (made the front page of the Sun) Alan Kelly going with an SPL squad wage bill in the championship and a management team of Jimmy Nicholl, Alex Smith, Terry Butcher and John Brownlee. The brass neck of Alan Kelly refusing to leave as chairman until he recouped every penny of his original investment. Selling Mickey Cameron to Hearts for 150k (plus John Millar) when we could have easily got 1M upwards from down South
  6. I realise football has changed a fair bit in 30 years or so, but Dave Narey (best player I've seen in a Rovers jersey) was 38 years old and MoTM in the CC final in 94 and one of the main reasons we were promoted that season. The same team had a midfielder as a fixture in a back three (Davie Sinclair) and a left winger (Julian Broddle) at wing back. We doubled down on this the following season interchanging two midfielders (Davie Kirkwood and Alex Taylor) as right back to achieve our highest league finish in modern times. I think the reality is we are not as good as we think we are, there is a complete lack of physicality coupled with an imbalance in the squad make-up. Maybe we have been over reliant on the results of GPS sports trackers to recruit, just a strong suspicion rather than being itk.
  7. Fairly sure we'd be in the same position with Iain Murray in charge, it was only a matter of time before he was shown the door. Completely agree with the unbalanced squad, we have recruited well but we have lots of quality options in some areas and bare bones in others. Loads of wingers\wide men, which from what I can see so far doesn't suit the new managers preferred formation? Dylan Easton on his game is a top league winger but unfortunately he is a Div 1 central midfielder and playing with two holding mids whatever the formation means we are playing with seven at the back (no wonder we create no chances) Without three or four quality loan signings to suit the new managers ethos I think it's going to be a hard season for everybody (even with the injuries clearing up)
  8. Exactly this, a lot depends on the pairing, we may have to sign Joel Nouble or someone like him to get the best out of Jack Hamilton (unlikely) Also, fairly sure, when interviewed last season Lewis Vaughan stated it wasn't really his game feeding off knock downs from high balls.
  9. Ayr TV offering ppv (you'll have to register first obviously) at £10. Link went up at 09:00 am
  10. Apologies for not being clearer , Lewis Jamieson has made a promising start both in his time on the pitch at Ayr and on Saturday. In my opinion, having attended both games, would be good to see him upfront alongside Lewis Vaughan.
  11. Thought for the second week in a row Paul Hanlon and Liam Dick were the best players on the park. Look a lot better in midfield in a 3-5-2, unfortunately the make up of the squad will mean we will probably revert to a back four with two sitting midfielders when everyone is fit. Would like to see Louis Vaughan and Lewis Jamieson play up front together, promising start. On another note, as well as not awarding the penalty, was raging when Colin Steven blew for half time when it looked like we were breaking towards the halfway line with a three on one. Probably frustration on my part but his body language suggested it was intentional, awful referee.
  12. Couldnt agree more, personal attacks and unfounded rumours are very damaging. All of the folks connected with the club, Board of Directors, Management Team and players want the best for the club as we could clearly see last season. Sure, there's been a delay in appointing a new manager, all that will probably mean is we will get somebody in the "untested" bracket. Bring it on.
  13. I'd like to apologise for the introduction of the word turgid to the thread , it accurately describes a number of games in the second half of the season (eg Morton mid-week) but is a million miles from what was a fantastic season overall for most of us. In the second half of the season the low percentage balls up the flanks or shell up to the big guy up front wasn't working but we persisted game after game, unfortunately, it looked from the start of the season\friendlies we were still sticking to the plan. As an aside, and to offer something constructive, when we played Kyle Turner instead of the injured Dylan Easton we looked way better creatively and weren't totally giving away the midfield when we lost the ball. I'm no different from a lot of fans who are uncomfortable with the manner of Ian Murrays departure but if you were one of the major investors in the club (old or new) would you be happy with writing off this season just to do the gentlemanly thing at the end of the year... not an easy choice. What I would say, is I would caveat all of this if another member of the management team was dictating the tactics\playing side and is responsible for the imbalance of the squad (4\5 wingers and 3 defensive mids??) and retract any negativity to Ian Murray (tactics at Tannadice aside ).
  14. Timing weird which suggests some sort of bust up, shit happens Some of the football since the start of the year has been turgid to watch, predictable tactics, no chances being created far less goals being scored An example ... midweek home game against Morton where one trundling shot from Sam Stanton was our only attempt at goal and we were meant to be happy escaping with a point .. nah not for me Some great memories first half of last season, but we were in a rut we were never going to get out of so fair play to the board for spotting this early, I am sure it wasnt an easy decision
  15. Couldn't agree more, it's how we set up every game, management team oblivious to the fact it hasn't worked since the turn of the year
