From what I've heard, we have signed up two players on pre contracts already.

Not including the Livi guy we've been rumoured before.

Also Paul mcginn is waiting to sign as he is looking at all other options. Since he's 34, this will most likely be his last big move so he will be waiting for anything initially. Good luck to him but hopefully we either sign him on for another season or he leaves early so we focus on a replacement.

Heard we have two signed aswell.

Names given around me today at the game are Easton from Raith Rovers and Shaun Rooney.

Would defo take big Rooney, he’s a local lad aswell so would make sense.

I actually think it’s one area he’s really started to improve on.

If you watch his goal against St Mirren for example, once it goes to SODS at the back post Bair is the first one to anticipate it’s going to go back across goal. He attacks that space and subsequently bundles it in- he wasn’t doing that at the start of the season. Much like his movement for his goal at Pittodrie, you can see they’ve clearly been working on it.

I suppose there’s a limit on what we can expect from a striker at our level. As much as Bair isn’t a natural poacher/goal scorer like a Moult or a Sutton, there’s also no danger those two would have had the pace and power to score his goal at Dens for example or chuck Golsdon and Souttar about up top on their own for 90 mins at Ibrox. If you could combine them, you’d have someone who wouldn’t be playing for Motherwell.

I mean 13 goals and 4 assists from just 26 league starts is honestly a ridiculous return from a guy we all thought was going to be a cheap 4th choice option at the start of the season. If he finishes the season with a few more goals, I think he’ll have a fair bit of interest in him this summer.

Absolutely agree with this. His strengths lie elsewhere which is why I think a poacher alongside him would work well and as mentioned above Vale should be that guy.

As good as hair bair has been he is pretty useless at set plays. I have watched him and he rarely fallows the flight of the ball like a Joe Jordan. He kinda waits for the ball to get to him. He needs to improve that side of his game big time.

💯 spot on with this imo. I’m a fan of the big guy but he has no poachers instinct. My one real criticism of him is the amount of balls fizzed across the box he is on his heels waiting on or crosses he waits on coming to him. He isn’t on his toes looking for two yards tap ins or throwing his body so balls hit of his knees/nuts etc.

Pair him with a poacher say a Arnott/Moult type of player that’s a potent strike force. He needs to be more mobile at set plays and when crosses coming in. Hopefully something he can work on in the summer.

I think the best our defence has looked was when it was being marshalled by Butcher after January last year. If Butcher is indeed finished at this level then I think we need someone else of that style i.e. a calm composed organiser. We do look frantic at times , often under little pressure .

I’ve been quite vocal about the fact that our best option when Butcher was out to me would have been McGinn in the middle. As close to a like for like as Butcher as we had. Similar style and to me would have given a more calming influence in the middle I think.

  5. I rate Blaney.  He is athletic, solid, pacy and can win a header. Also will give a goal of two. We can’t discount he has had a very interrupted time with us due to injuries, inexplicable drop from the team etc. offers a good balance to the team.

I think given a good run in the side, a good pre season he will be a very decent defender for us. By that point his contract will be due to expire and then he will leave on a free down south. That’s the Motherwell way.

  6. I’m a huge Fallout 4 fan. Absolutely love the game. TV has certainly 3 episodes in, anyway, did the game justice. Brilliant viewing.

As others have mentioned Goggins is brilliant. As he is in everything he does.

It's amazing how people can see this yet SK insists on his weird 5-2-3 but with two wide players (Vale & Spittal). As you said tuck Spittal in behind and move Vale up front.

Also glad you two appreciate Davor, there's two or three other people who don't seem to.

In addition, Andy Halliday not very good? Quelle surprise!

Davor is a class wee player when played as he should be. As a defensive midfielder breaking up play and protecting the defence then linking with the attacking midfielders to do their stuff.

I get taking him off at times against teams sitting in but he has been criminally underused imo by asK this year.

The Vale scenario is reminding me of Brodie Spencer, comes in with fire in his belly looking a right find then drained of it by being asked to do a job he is less effective in. Effectively making a 7 or 8 out of 10 player a 6 to fill in a role rather than play to his strengths.

All in all, weird season, ended up roughly where we're meant to be, somehow.

Scored a million goals, scored some belters, conceded nothing but horrors.

Scottish cup a disaster, league cup a disappointment. Still quite like this team?

Also can we stop hooking Davor as a standard option, we go to pieces every fucking time.

Yip, taking Davor and Vale off every time is getting frustrating.

Vale is being played too wide and too deep. Needs to be right up beside Bair with Spittal in the 10 role behind them. We are taking any Vale goal scoring threat right out the team essentially playing as a second right back.

I mean Vale would have buried that Shaw chance that’s for sure.

I’ve seen Gordon Duncan on Sky & I like him.

Maybe Sportsound & Radio Clyde can swap Duncan for MacIntyre.

Is it not exclusively “angry, paranoid bed wetting arseholes” that phone in?
Myst be hard to vet when they’re all paranoid Celtic or The Rangers fans.

He is an absolutely cracking lad Gordon.

Genuinely down to earth nice fella. Find it hilarious when folk call him a fan of one of the OF. He’s a dyed in the wool Well fan who actually dislikes them both equally.

But aside the above is really Knowledgeable about football and good at his job. Wasted on that show in my opinion.

  11. From what I am hearing about some guests attending Fir Park at the weekend, our singing in the stands better be ‘pitch perfect’.

Also if ’The Boys’ don’t perform then it could lead to a ‘Hunger Games’ stlye free for all.

I’m being a bit daft here, but the spouse of a movie star who has appeared in all of the above is seemingly coming to the game and is interested in investing in the club along with oor Erik B. Seemingly.

Positive intitial impressions. Telling the SPFL they are a bunch of fannies is a huge plus point straight off the bat.

Also interesting to hear him admit that the potential investment has been looked upon favourably so far and that the investor has spoken to him, the Well Society as well as the Chairman etc.

Is anyone susprised he has had 20 calls with the Manager already……”Hi Brian….it is Stuart again…I forgot to mention….”

I don’t think it’s 20 calls, I think the bold Stuart just had to hang up on 59 mins before he started getting charged for the calls and could finish his story.

It might just be my individual situation (40 odd year old, been going to FP for 30+ years, young family taking up more of my time).

But yesterday was really a prime example of how I am beginning to struggle with watching us. Probably should be happy getting a point from that but again come away with a very 'meh' feeling.  Aware of the various reasons but the lack of quality throughout and lack of tactical nous/plan B/managerial stubborness is wrestling me down I have to say.

I'm not chucking my season ticket or anything but I'm finding increasingly easy to miss games for other events etc.

Really really hope next season Kettlewell can build an identity that is pleasant to watch, has some sort of other system that doesn't rely on wingbacks and can get more MFC academy players into the team

That’s exactly how I am feeling and how I felt walking out the game yesterday. Actually feeling very meh about the club at the moment.

Just something about this team and some of the the players which I just can’t seem to gel with. Lack of fight, error strewn, no leadership, I just don’t know. I can’t put my finger on it.

Where as watching wee Gent and Davor both give they’re all. Trying to encourage and lead from the front I get that and enjoy it.

Actually disagree with this. He's made players better, recruitment has actually been good, the patterns of play exist, we score fucking loads of goals.

I genuinely don't know how you legislate for players of McGinn's experience doing stuff like that today. Or Halliday missing that header. Or that Butcher has forgotten how to play football.

Tactically tho, he this year imo made a shed load of mistakes. Even today it was crying out for the team to move to Vale beside Bair and Spittal in the 10. The formation just was not working.

I like him but he has made so many stupid errors that has realistically cost us a lot of points. Over thinks formations and is ridiculously stubborn in his approach.

Presumably he's the one mentioned in January but his deal (at least initially) was to the end of 2023 so you wonder what the hold up was, if we were just unsure etc, did he hold out for another offer etc.

If the delay was on our wish, fair play...the feeling of having to have any striker to present at 2359 on deadline day must have been big.

Yip. That’s the lads. Fitness concerns was one as has been out for a bit. Not sure if permit was/is an issue.

Guys goals to game record from out wide is pretty decent aswell.
