Formatting Blank Dvds

Recommended Posts

I have just created my holiday masterpiece from my DV camcorder and using Ulead editing software (free with my firewire cable). It's all set to go but the computer is not accepting the brand new DVD+R disc. It's telling me the drive is empty or the disc is full.

How the hell do I format the disk? Can I use any software to do this? Can I do this using Windows XP?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Winston's probably your man for this, I can only offer two suggestions.

1. Maybe it should be a DVD-R? (You've probably checked that)

2. Maybe the file is too big for the DVD? Is it longer than 2 hours ?

I think I meant DVD-R, I'm new to this :)

I've edited it down to 56mins as to not bore the arse of anyone who has the pleasure of viewing it.

DVD+R and DVD-R are two completely different formats.

You need to check what type your DVD recorder will accept. +R is the most common, IIRC, and lots of DVD recorders will be able to use both.

Have you tried putting a different disc in?
