MeadowArab
What would be a good lightweight distro to put on an old dual core i5 laptop? Also, what Microsoft applications can you get on Linux without using Wine? I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is 0. And can Kaspersky run on Linux? Kennboy1978
I use Ubuntu 15 on an old laptop. It took forever to boot into Windows and even then was almost almost impossible to do anything. Why don't you try a few distros on a live USB stick, see what one suits you. What Microsoft apps do you use ? As there is sometimes a linux equivalent removing the need for Wine. As for Anti-Virus - I have never felt the need to use one on Linux.
D.A.F.C
It's very rare to get a virus on Linux as it's an open source platform where everything is usually free. Also as you need to be running as root to do anything they won't run. If you get wubi installer you can try it as a program from Windows and it installs a dual boot for you. I don't know how it works but you don't even need to create the ext3 partition. When you get bored or if you don't like it simply remove the program from Windows. You could remove everything from Windows apart from the few apps that don't work. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide
