Jambo'ness
Very interesting article. Who would have thought football could be the help for depression. On a light note, most fans would consider it the cause!

Actually, I was thinking on a wider scale. Have you ever noticed that fans of the old firm never seem all that happy, as they (nearly) always win, revelling only in the others misfortune. They seem to have everything on face value. Depression can be somewhat similar. You may well have a 'good' life on the face of it but it doesn't stop the inner turmoil. I've maybe not put it right but I know what I mean.

Rochstar1920
I personally suffer from depression and it was quite bad but I found that having a match to go to on a Saturday gave me a something to look forward too. Had great support from those around me at the candy. Regardless of result it was about the being able to get out and socialise with others and it helped me back to work. TFW
A really good piece, and as someone who has had similar experiences over the last 25 years I applaud you. Fitba has always been my escape.
LeedsPhil
Aye, I'm another for whom everyday life is utterly depressing, with the anticipation of going to the footy on Saturdays being the only thing that keeps me going. Good on the bloke for putting his experience out there, and written so well.

Toffee fan
Football definitely can put a smile on your face no matter how hard depression bites! Hard just now with the regular postponements a lot of us supporters are enduring just now!

jimbaxters
Took me ages to get a chance to read this but glad I have. I can't fully relate to this not having suffered myself, but kudos to the boy for sharing his experience. Life can be fantastic or a punch in the face at times and you have to take the good where you can find it. Family can be that for some but anyone on here knows how football can lift you, whether you're a player, committee man or a fan. I know I bang this drum but I hope anyone reading that article considers players or officials mental state when they roar and shout at them at a match. Maybe it makes you feel better but what about the recipient? Anyway, more power to you Aaron, JC and all who have been honest and candid on here.
