GNU_Linux
One of the major changes in the drug market in the UK over the past year or so is the synthetic opiate nitazene entering the supply. It's entry into the European drug market is connected to the Taliban cracking down on poppy production in Afghanistan. The war on drugs strikes again.

Inanimate Carbon Rod
The shite thing about these figures is that they will be small compared to what we’ll see if fentanyl gets a foothold here. The street blues are the big killer. Agree with the calls for a move away from enforcement of simple possession, in all honesty thats been the way its going anyway. People dont get arrested solely for having a tenner bag on them, in 99.999999% of cases. Poverty, cuts to addiction and mental health services and the public sector in general have led to this.

Fentanyl, like crystal meth, is unlikely to get a foothold tbh. Dealers don't want to kill their clients too quickly, it's not cost effective. Quote People dont get arrested solely for having a tenner bag on them, in 99.999999% of cases. Unfortunately, yes they do. They often get lifted for having one single tablet on them. f**k knows what the cops think they're doing in these cases. Waste of everyone's time that has to be involved in dealing with it. Decriminalise possession for a start, use the time and resources to go after the dealers. Between the government, PF office and polis, it really needs sorted because drugs are not going to disappear.

Maybe they don't get flung in a cell for the night or jail time but they get charged and fined with the possession, resulting in a likely 3 figure fine, which they know most heavy drug users won't afford. People should be sent to support services instead of given a criminal record.
PossilYM
On 04/07/2018 at 11:16, Sweet Pete said: It's a bit of the Glasgow Effect really. It can be tracked with stats, but no single key issue can be identified as the root cause and then solved accordingly. Never knowingly met someone who later died of drugs use, but several kids from my street became smackheads, and I know a large number of other recreational drug users. Attitude and an ingrained culture definitely feels like a good fit, but can't possibly be the whole reason. I've lived my entire life in Greater Possil and never personally known a drug addict outside of alcohol abuse. Then again i've also never been in the company of anyone taking cocaine. Maybe a lot of people hide it well.
