GordonS
Thought I'd have a look at what paths we could take if (if? when!) we make it out of the group. If third Most likely is that we come third. There are two possible routes from there, depending on how the other groups go - a 70% chance of playing the winner of group B in Grenoble, and a 30% chance of playing the winner of group A in Le Havre. That's likely to mean either Germany or France. Not great news and we'd be extremely unlikey to get any further. We wouldn't know which match we'd be in until 10pm on the Thursday night, after the last group matches, and we could be playing Germany on the Saturday afternoon - not ideal for those traveling. If we did make it past Germany we'd face the runners up in F or the runners up in E - probably one of Chile/Sweden/Canada/Netherlands. And if we made it past France we'd face runners up B or winners F - very likely USA. If top the group Winning the group would mean facing a third-placed team from groups B, E or F in Valenciennes. That's too wide open to speculate about. After that we'd play the winners of runner up in F v the runner up in C - one of Norway, South Korea, Australia, Italy or Brazil. If second If we finish second, we'd play the winner of group E back in Rennes. Ours is one of only two groups in which the runner-up plays the winner of another group. Cheers FIFA. The winner of E is likely to be Canada or Netherlands. Very tough, but not impossible. If we got through that game, we'd likely face one of Australia, Brazil or Italy in the quarter final. Again, very tough but not impossible. I'm supporting everyone against France and Germany in their groups, then.
