Richey Edwards
I started a new game as Queens Park. As they are an amateur side I thought it would be an interesting challenge to manage them and try to get them up the leagues. Transfer dealings: I found better options and ended up releasing these three quite early. Results: Friendlies: Queens Park 4 (Mortimer '4 & '38, Nimmo '64, McKernon '75) Queens Park Reserves 2 (Moore '12, Miller '19) Queens Park 2 (Gibson '33, O'Connell '45+2) Hamilton Academicals 0 Queens Park 2 (McCrory '69, McLauchlan '84) Wycombe Wanderers 1 (Kashket '3) Betfred Cup: Stranraer 3 (McGowan '34, Cameron '39, Lyon '44) Queens Park 2 (McKernon '57, MacPherson '87) Edinburgh City 1 (Henderson pen '26) Queens Park 1 (Galt '47) - Ed. City win 4-3 on pens Hamilton Academicals 2 (Miller '38, Boyd '84) Queens Park 2 (Mortimer pen '9, '75) - Queens Park win 4-2 on pens Queens Park 3 (McKernon '39, Mortimer '51 & '88) St Mirren 3 (Ferdinand '12, Breadner '31, Nazon '79) - Queens Park win 4-2 on pens A couple of spirited penalty victories against Premiership sides were not enough to progress from the group stage after earlier defeats to Stranraer and Edinburgh City. Now onto the league: Peterhead 0 Queens Park 1 (Summers '90+4) Hart, Grant, Ahmed (Nimmo '70), Gibson, Adamson (s.o. '71), Roberts, Notman, McKernon (McVitie '70) , Thomas, MacPherson (Summers '71), Mortimer MOTM - Summers It was the late, late show at Balmoor as the ten men of Queens Park grabbed the win against Peterhead. Peterhead failed to clear an injury time corner which allowed substitute Ciaran Summers to score a volley from outside the box. Unfortunately after this match, Summers accepted a contract from our rivals Clyde and left the club. Former Ayr United and Celtic youngster Grant Thorburn was recruited to compete for the left-back position and experienced former Hearts, Rangers and Scotland midfielder Ian Black joined the club during midweek. Queens Park 4 (Roberts '37 & '74, MacPherson '50, Mortimer '55) Berwick Rangers 2 (Brown '2, Adamson 90+4) Hart, Grant (+ Notman '32), Gibson, Ahmed, Thorburn, Black, Thomas, McVitie (McKernon), Roberts, MacPherson, Mortimer (Peters) MOTM - Mortimer Queens Park responded well to going behind early by comfortably beating Berwick Rangers at Hampden Park. IRN BRU CUP FIRST ROUND Queens Park 1 (Black '50) Partick Thistle 1 (O'Ware pen '22) - Queens Park win 5-4 on penalties Hart, Notman, Gibson, Ahmed, Thorburn, Roberts (Duncan), Black, McVitie (McKernon), Thomas, Mortimer, MacPherson (Peters) MOTM: Black Queens Park continued their impressive cup penalty exploits against higher league opposition as they eliminated Championship side Partick Thistle from the Irn Bru Cup. Ian Black scored a brilliant free kick in the second-half to equalise after Partick Thistle had opened the scoring in the first-half with a penalty. That's all for now folks! I'm quite pleased with how things are going so far, and will generally update this with every in-game month. Richey Edwards
League 2: Annan Athletic 1 (Nade '56) Queens Park 2 (Roberts '13, Peters '84) Hart, Hastings, Gibson, Ahmed, Adamson, Notman (Black '68), Thomas, McKernon, Roberts (Duncan '68), MacPherson, Mortimer (Peters '82) MOTM: Nade It was first vs second in this game at Galabank, but it was Queens Park who continued their 100% start to the season with a 2-1 win. The Irn Bru Cup draw sees QP travel to Livingston in the second round to play the Premiership sides reserves. Queens Park 4 (McKernon '13, Mortimer '71, Thomas '83, Ahmed '90+1) Albion Rovers 2 (Byrne '36 & '40) Hart, Notman (Hastings '79), Gibson, Ahmed, Adamson, Black, Thomas, McKernon, Roberts (Duncan '79), MacPherson (Peters '79), Mortimer MOTM: Byrne Queens Park make it four wins from four games with a derby triumph over Albion Rovers. August ends, and I have scooped an award after winning all four league games in August. Our next match is on the 1st of September against Cowdenbeath. Lets hope that the old Manager Of The Month curse doesn't strike us! If you're wondering about my tactics, I've been setting up with a 4-4-2 diamond geggenpress. It's pretty much the default set-up with minor alterations to player roles, but it's served me well.
