Some albums regarded as up there with the best of all time, actually. Just because there hasn't been a modern punk era doesn't mean the music has been shit. Far from it. It has been very, very good, especially in the 00s. I personally hated a lot of the music that was considered "cool" in the mid-90s and one can argue that the music scene from 97-01 hit a low point with the over-saturation of boy bands and the other crap that came out. But the 80s had its fair share of awful music as well. The lower-end hair bands were truly terrible and some of the pop like Tiffany and other similar acts/singers were just brutal.
