Jacksgranda
A bit against the run of play. Not that I'm complaining...
Jacksgranda
Knew that was a goal from the moment they crossed the halfway line. Cliftonville with their tails up, I can't see Coleraine coming back.

Clockwork
Cliftonville deserved winnersLooked like Coleraine gave it their best shot 2nd half, but Cliftonville a v.decent side especially at Solitude. Intrigued to see how Newry get it on tomorrow, shame their confidence perhaps took a bit of a knock last week after been handily beaten at home by Annagh United. Still expect them to have a real go at the Glens though. Disappointing but unexpected that Carrick would go down to Linfield at home tonight in the league, that’s five straight defeats on the bounce, doesn’t read like the Blues had it all their own way though, Tuesday much more important.

Clockwork
A veritable feast of goals in the NIFL Championship yesterday afternoon with the biggest haul for a Saturday fixture list so far this season. Annagh United went top of the table with 4-2 win away at Queen’s University Belfast, adrift at the foot of the table, the glimpse of a recent revival fading fast. With Newry in cup action across the City at Glentoran. The Reds took full advantage racing into a three nil lead (goals from Ryan Harpur, Ryan Moffat & Stevie Murray), before Marc McKenna pulled one back from the spot for Queens on 56 minutes. Ross Hunter restored the three goal advantage on 78 minutes leaving enough time for Tamer Atrach to grab a second for Queens and perhaps make the scoreline look a little more respectable.Chasing the top two Ballinamallard and HW Welders went head to head at Ferney Park, Welders ousting the Ducks from third spot with a commanding 3-0 away win. Scott Davidson opening on 39 minutes, a Charlie Dornan header doubling their lead on 75 before Jake Corbett settled things beyond doubt with a 25 yard screamer into the top corner in the closing seconds.Ards continue to chase in the following pack, enjoying a positive start under the tutelage of Matt Tipton with a 5-0 trouncing of Ballyclare. The Comrades travelled to Bangor still looking for their first League win of 2022, Captain Chris Ramsey in charge following Paul Harbinson’s departure last week. The away side started well enough but will rue the two gilt edged chances wasted by forward Andrew Mooney. Ards taking control with Ross Arthurs poking home on 16 minutes then Danny Reynolds poaching the second at the back post. Davie McAllistair put Ards 3-0 up before the break with a calm finish close in, then notched his deflected second on 79. Eamon Scannell wrapped things up with a tap in five minutes before the whistle. Ramsey and Asst Coach Micheal Higgins probably returned back up the road to Antrim wondering how they had been on the end of such a resounding defeat, having enjoyed plenty of the ball and forcing Brian Neeson into a couple of outstanding saves. The answer surely lies in repairing such a fragile back line, that looked so organised early in the campaign. They certainly have their work cut out before a new Managerial appointment is made.Elsewhere, Dundela comfortably despatched of Institute 4-0 at Wilgar Park with goals from Eoin Kane on 10 minutes, Dee Fearon on 64 and a late double from sub Eamon Fyfe securing a third win in four games for the Duns. To round things up, another glut of goals in a see-saw encounter at Darragh Park, Ciaran Heggarty with a brace for Knockbreda levelled up against Dergview following a Jamie Browne strike and a Matt Kirk penalty for the home side. Breda looked as though they’d stolen the points on 86 through Liam McKenna only for Mikhail Kennedy to equaliser five minutes into added time.Encouraging to see that Championship Newry City gave a good account of themselves at Premiership leaders Glentoran in their Cup Quarter Final yesterday, despite going down to a 1-0 defeat. As reported above, it will be interesting to see how the IFA respond to the Glens administrative slip-up in fielding Joe Crowe before the correct completion of a three match suspension. Dundela had their first round win over Ards overturned for a similar error back in January and denied a chance to further progress in the competition, ironically against Newry City. Clockwork
What do you thinkJacksgranda, can’t see the IFA being able to do any other than hand the semi-final spot to Newry? Hard to believe that someone at Glentoran made that oversight (including an Intermediate Cup Tie as part of Crowe’s suspension)!!?[emoji15]

At the other end of the table, Carrick v Portadown and Warrenpoint v Dungannon.Relieved to scramble a point and maintain a six point gap above Portadown after being 0-2 behind and down to 10 men for most of the 2nd half.[emoji15]
Jacksgranda
A night of drama in the Premiership, 10 man Linfield win 2-0 at the Ballymena Showgrounds thanks to an own goal and a penalty, to stay top, 1 point ahead of Cliftonville who chiselled out a 1-0 win at the Oval to leapfrog the Glens who are now third (obviously). A lovely build up for Hale to score what proved to be the winner. I didn't know this was live so missed the first 18 minutes. And at the bottom, as reported, 10 man Carrick battled back to rescue a point in their relegation clash at Taylor's Avenue with the Ports after being 2 down and down to 10 men from the 51st minute. Dungannon Swifts won the other 6 pointer, 3-2 at Warrenpoint, that should keep the Swifts safe, imho. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/60668626 Goals - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/60639091 The other games finished Crusaders 1 Coleraine 0 and Larne 1 Glenavon 1

Clockwork
Glentoran dispute ineligibility claim. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/60675329Dundela’s appeal thrown out (despite similar claims about system errors in Jan) after their first round tie Vs Ards. Without a cast iron reason and explanation, if the Glens aren’t dismissed from the competition the accusations of bias towards the bigger clubs will be difficult to argue against. The IFA might prefer a Glens semi final against Ballymena to potentially set up an all Belfast final, but it will undoubtedly tarnish this year’s tournament.
Clockwork
Quick update in the Championship after two games last night. Newry City put the disappointment of their cup exit (for the time being, pending appeal) behind them, by returning to the top of the league with an emphatic 5-1 home win over Knockbreda. The East Belfast side actually went in front on 21 minutes through defender Karl Hamill, before the home side quickly reshuffled the pack to take control of proceedings. Goals from James Teelan, John McGovern, Lorcan Ford, Stevie Moan and teenage debutant Peadar McParland all on the scoresheet without reply. Ballyclare were seconds away from a long awaiting three points at Lakeview Park in a tense encounter visiting Loughgall. Liam Hassin gave the Comrades the lead on 30 minutes which they held until the closing moments, denied the full three points by a Conor Kerr equaliser, following a frantic scramble in the box. Spoils shared one each.
