GeoGuessr

For anyone who's never played it before, you're essentially plonked somewhere on Google street view and have to work out where you are as quick as possible and then select it on the map as accurately as you can.

In Scotland you can look at things like bins for council logos or building materials like how most of Aberdeen is granite and Glasgow is sandstone but when on world maps your knowledge has to be broader about things like trees and climate and language on signs etc. There are also maps like Stadiums of the World which may interest some.

I utterly love this game and take great pride in perfect-scoring all the Dundee maps.

Do we have any Geoguessr lovers amongst the P&B community? @Hedgecutter I'm looking at you.

I've been at it for a couple of years. It's grown a lot in that time with the site having a lot more to it, and many more ways to play.

Playing competitively via Twitch had a bit of peak a while back too.

There are some unbelievably skilled players out there. I could wipe the floor with a novice and can instantly identify Albanian car plates, Czech bollards, etc, but some of the guys you come across seem to have zero gaps in their knowledge and could pish all over me.

Aye, huge GeoGuessr fan here. I usually play the Japan maps as trying to work out where I am from the signs is a good way to practice my reading and build my local knowledge - can usually perfect-score the Japan game if I have enough patience, and have hit a max score on the Taiwan maps a couple of times too. But as above, it's wild to see how good some of the top players are, they were live-streaming the GeoGuessr world championships a week or so ago and the speed and accuracy of these guys is crazy.

Can only echo what others have said about thinking I'm good then seeing the pro's do it and being brought right back down to earth. I think my strength is real life knowledge of places I've been. In other countries I'm not so good.

Also aye, I remember when they introduced the time limit and was gutted. I'm not the sort of person to have monthly subscriptions for these sorts of things so tend to just play challenge links which are free to play. Will add some below for people.
