Guest erseofthebank
that looks so so so bad for the name of scottish football, oh sweet moses .... mali, oman and uzbekistan are above us!!! ok they all play against minor opponents within their own continents at the best of times but that doesnt explain why teams like norway and slovenia are 20+ position above us. since december last year we dropped 13 places alone, i dont wanna know what a shafting in spain tomorrow night will do to our status, they are 3rd in the world at the moment. Swampy
Who honestly cares about the FIFA rankings? Seriously - does anyone take them seriously? Read about how arcane the scoring system is - it's pathetic.

miketheheadlesschicken
Who honestly cares about the FIFA rankings? Seriously - does anyone take them seriously? Sepp Blatter and Craig Brown. Everyone else realises how flawed the rankings are.
Swampy
im not entirely concerned no, but its a topic of conversation.if you were not interested/concerned why did you reply on the topic? I'm "concerned" that people take them as a valid measure of national football rankings. I'm interested in examinations of alternative systems, too (but I think you can't rank football teams like you can golfers or tennis players, anyway.) Here are some documents on the flawed ranking systems: Official Explanatory Notes: http://www.fifa.com/en/mens/statistics/ran...,2540,3,00.html . Just a basic overview of how it all works. Note that the weighting system applies 1.5x more to a world cup qualifier than a friendly, and 2x more to a world cup match than to a qualifier. Never mind that some world cup qualifiers are meaningless and some group stage matches in the WC are used to rest players - all are thrown under this nebulous "weighting" system. The REGIONAL weighting system is even more hilarious. The OFC (Oceania) is weighted at 0.93x what UEFA or COMNEBOL (South America) is at. Now, Aussie football is certainly improving, but it's typical of FIFA's exaggerated globalist attitude that it's given so much credence when it's still a diddy federation. Alarm bells should be ringing at this point. "Previous Results" are also given too much weighting (see section 5.2). This is supposed to be a current ranking system, not a historical overview of who is the "best" team. Suggestions of better systems: http://www.rsssf.com/misc.html#rankinfo . People much smarter than myself put their massive brains together and came up with some great stuff. Ron Kessler's system only changes in small ways the FIFA rankings but is still better - what a shame he stopped updating it. The ELO ratings are also listed but I've never actually read how they worked.

Guest erseofthebank
im slightly a little more interested in this now, ok before i was not anywhere near up to date with the way FIFA formulated their rankings but now I want to know more of how they do it and compre ron kesslers methods. its too late and im tired so i will bookmark them and read them at a later date. cheers
Swampy
NP In fairness, FIFA isn't nearly as bad as it used to be, but IMO they still need a lot of work. And it's meaningless until every country plays every other one, anyway, IMO

Guest Bhoys67
At the end of the month will be in the Hundreds, after tying Honduras 1 - 1 in Edmonton Saturday night. Then just to make things go even better one of our players on the bench threw a bottle of water towards the offical, red card. Then another one picks up a red card after the match for doing something stupid, Canadian football......the tradition continues.
