BFTD Posted October 9, 2014 Share Posted October 9, 2014 A few days ago, Topps brought out a Match Attax trading card collection for the current SPFL season. The collection features 288 cards covering the Premiership and Championship clubs, with a starter pack containing a binder, packet of 9 cards, and an exclusive Gold Limited Edition Virgil Van Dijk card ( ) available for £4.99. Packets of 9 cards can be bought for £1.00, with 50 card boxes available for £5.00 each. In December, Topps will also be producing a sticker collection for this season. Last year's collection featured all 42 SPFL clubs in one form or another; hopefully the new one will be at least as comprehensive, but details are yet to be announced. The sticker trading threads have proved quite popular with sad old men like me' members' weans, so I figured that I'd start this thread as Topps don't seem to have bothered with much publicity; as I type, they haven't even updated their website with this collection. Anyone contemplating giving the cards a go might be pleasantly surprised by the quality, as there's some nice embossing and colourful shiny work on the go. And each team has a shiny club badge card I've no spares on the go to trade yet, but will no doubt waste some cash on a box of 50 sometime soon Edit: just realised there are no shiny club badges for the Championship teams. The Commons and Van Dijk cards haven't scanned well - the text shows up much better on the actual cards, and Van Dijk has much more of a gold tint too. Quite pretty, no? BFTD Posted October 21, 2014 Author Share Posted October 21, 2014 One last addendum to the trading card collection; the 50-card 'boxes' are actually just packs of 5 normal packets mounted on card, and can be found in ASDA (other retailers are available, of course). As the normal packs contain 9 cards, you only get 45 cards for your £5. Quality information from Topps there The only benefit to buying these packs is that they include a limited edition card (as part of your 45, not an extra one), but it turns out that there are only 4; the Virgil Van Dijk card that only comes with the binder, and another 3 that you can only get with the multipacks. They're Gold, Silver, and Bronze Limited Edition Gary Mackay-Steven cards, for some reason. Must have a good agent. So, there's a total of 288 cards in the collection. Happy hunting! BFTD Posted December 24, 2014 Author Share Posted December 24, 2014 The 2015 SPFL sticker collection is out. 376 stickers in this year's collection, although some of those will be split 2-on-1 stickers, so the total number to collect is effectively less. Premier and Championship sides get a club badge shiny, team line-up, and an individual sticker for each player. League 1 teams get a half-size club shiny and a pic of the manager, while League 2 teams get the (non-shiny) club badge only. Collection's not as good as last year for lower-league fans, but still better than nothing, I suppose. £2 for a starter pack (album plus 4 packs of stickers), and the sticker packets are 50p each. Each pack contains 5 stickers. Your local supermarket may get multipacks in at a slightly reduced cost; not sure if Topps are doing that this time. Put your trade requests in here when you need 'em. Was out last night so left him doing the starter four packs. He got James Fowler in his first pack! Every club in the top two divisions has a Star Player action shot sticker as well as their individual head and shoulders ones. You can't tell who that is until you get it as it doesn't tell you in the book. Not sure if it's unique as I haven't got them all yet obviously but Partick Thistle have the odd situation whereby their "Star Player" is Kris Doolan but he doesn't actually feature in their squad stickers!
