  1. The bookies don't fancy us apparently.

It's about time to give Thompson a start.  If not now then when?

Kinghorn isn't an international calibre player.

After finishing 5th in the 2019 6 Nations we've then finished 4th 3 seasons in a row.  We're basically static and starting to go backwards.  If we lose the series tomorrow night then there should be coaching changes ahead of the World Cup.

However, the SRU will probably want us to limp to the World Cup and get paddled by Ireland and SA (doesn't matter as long as we finish 3rd in the pool) so they can let them go without having to put their hands in their pocket.

  2. This has been a horror show defensively. We've not been near the Argentina try line either.

If this test series goes poorly then Townsend needs to go. His marquee players not listening to his authority is one thing but if we lose a test series to Argentina at the start of the home run to the World Cup then he'll need to go...

  3. No real issues with this team.  However Rory Hutchinson will be an interesting experiment to see what our options are like for the future.  Hogg won't be around forever more and Maitland is already finished for Scotland imo.  KInghorn isn't an international calibre player imo so Hutchinson being able to play at 15 with Huw Jones allows those 2 players to play 15 and centre which helps with depth.

I'd have started Tuipulotu at centre.  He's quality with Glasgow but I'm unsure if he's Scotland level (like Grigg) but Bennett is too injury prone and hasn't had any momentum in the last few years.  I'm surprised he's not had to retire.

No choice but to play Kinghorn at 10.  Again not international standard imo but Russell is injured and Thompson is still learning his trade.  Having said that, he looked more settled vs Chile than he has under Danny Wilson at Glasgow.

Argentina have been on a woeful run and we have a good record against them but they're at home and in transition with Michael Cheika as their new head coach.  I've always called them the southern hemisphere's version of Italy but they're better.

I think we need to win the series or else there'll be no real momentum heading into the World Cup then we really need to wonder if Townsend is making us better or if change is needed heading into the autumn.  Therefore, the coaching staff really need to deliver...

Glasgow draw Perpignan and Bath in the European Challenge Cup.

Edinburgh have Castres and Saracens in the European Champions Cup.

As a Glasgow fan I'm delighted with this draw.  Both French options are traditional relegation battlers but Bayonne won the Pro D2 last season and have a couple of the French grand slam winners in their team though I think they'll be rested for Europe.  Staying up will be more important.  Perpignan have a couple of Argentina internationalists as well as ex-Glasgow prop Siua Halanukanuka.  They won the relegation play-off to stay up.

Bath is ideal and could be a nice away trip.  We've already got 2 trips to SA in the regular season in the URC so we don't want a 3rd especially at altitude so thankfully we didn't draw the Cheetahs.

We should be targeting 2 home wins and winning in France.  If we have our act together then maybe even a win in Bath is a possibility.

Kirkcaldy and Dysart then Crossgates or Stirling Uni if we beat them. I’d imagine we’ll beat Kirkcaldy but their team looks to have a bit of experience. The Uni or Crossgates will pose a bigger threat but hopefully Crossgates away as we’ve not had a decent away game in a cup for a good few years now

We need to target the 3rd round. Even if we do play Crossgates Primrose we need to target a win. We've got a habit of losing too often to teams in divisions below us the last few seasons...

  6. 2nd half we relaxed a bit but we were winning well so that's to be expected. Disappointing to lose a late try but scored 2 to make up for it.

However it's for real over the next 3 weeks. I think Toony must win this series if he's to be trusted with the run in to the World Cup next year.

  7. So far we've not been troubled defensively but when we make changes the game could open up a bit. We've been held up over the try line a couple of times and had pressurised knock ons so Chile are still wanting to give a good account of themselves.

I know Hoyland is on a hattrick now but I'm still unsure if he'll start the 1st Test next Saturday night.

Special note to Ross Thompson. He scored a great conversion from a tough angle for the 1st try and he's playing with more freedom and enjoyment. Under Danny Wilson at Glasgow he seemed to be frustrated and off form.

I remember him as assistant at Edinburgh after hanging up his boots, but didnt realise it was that long ago!

Think he would be a decent option, but not sure if it is worth breaking the bank to get him over from Japan

According to The Offside Line Glasgow Warriors aren't passing comment on Todd Blackadder...

Was a great player and always thought he'd get a coaching job in Scotland at some point. Has he got any experience?

He's already been involved with the assistant coaching set up With Scotland and Edinburgh in the past under Matt Williams and Frank Hadden.

However as a head coach in his own right he got Tasman to the NZ domestic play offs in 2008.

Between 2009 and 2016 he was head coach of the Crusaders.  Apart from 2015 they were always in the Super Rugby play offs including getting to the final in 2011 and 2014.

He was in charge of Bath between 2016 and 2019.  They never got into the play offs but he got them into the top 6 each season to get them into the Champions Cup.  In his 1st season he got them to the Challenge Cup semi finals and in his 2nd season they were runners up in the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

Just now he's in charge of Toshiba in the Japanese League.  He's just got them to the play offs for the 2nd season in a row but they got knocked out.

So basically he has no experience of winning silverware like Dave Rennie did but he's always been in charge of competitive teams.  I really hope that if he comes he finally wins something...

  10. Swinson came out of retirement to help Sarries get back to the Premiership after their relegation.

Tbf, he's a north London guy and wanted to help his local team so fair do's.

  11. Was the OF and Hearts Colts side argument that their inclusion in the LL would benefit the Scottish national team from the grassroots up a marketing ploy to get LL fans onside with it?

Outside the Shire I don't watch much football and I'm not interested in international football.  So I'm wondering how else I could back Colts sides in the LL league.  Apologies if this sounds cynical but I'm still a bit despondent to the Colts idea...

  12. Pete Horne to join Glasgow's coaching team as skills coach next season.  I'm happy with this as his brother's in the playing squad and he knows the club inside out too. Al Dickinson to remain as scrum coach.  Nigel Carolan and Pete Murchie staying in the coaching team too.

Just the head coach to think about now...

  13. Glasgow's performance at Murrayfield was a disaster.  Let's just get Leinster away over and done with then get the coaching team out the door.

Meanwhile, Ratu Tagive has left Glasgow.

How was the trip to north-England-shire.  I rely on you to tell me the truth, even if I can’t handle the truth!

After the game we went back into the city centre and you'd never have thought there was a professional rugby game on.

I'm glad we won but I honestly think we're not clinical enough in attack and defence imho.

  15. This is so, so pish.

On paper this team should have destroyed the Stormers in the 1st half with the errors they compounded.

So far in the 2nd half we've did another display of forgetting to stay switched on and it's cost us the game I'd say.

Assuming we lose it's disappointing. We really needed to win as playing the Bulls in Pretoria at altitude will be even tougher.

The coaching team simply aren't Glasgow quality imho.

  16. Newcastle are the poorest team I've seen this season barring Zebre.

We were a bit disjointed in the 2nd half that Lyon could expose. Had we been on form we'd have been out of sight. Newcastle never really threatened us tbh.

I still feel this Glasgow team under Toony or Rennie would've put a big gap on the scoreboard.
