  1. The football team I support were one of the minority to vote against the Old Firm Colts coming back into the Lowland League next season.

However, would this work in the Super 6?  The Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh sending their academy teams into the Super 6?  They couldn't win the league but it'd give the academy players regular competitive games.  Also, it would give the best players from the Super 6 teams a gauge to see if they're good enough to join one of the FT set ups?

  2. Clyde were at home today so Shire's away game to Cumbernauld Colts in the Lowland League was on Friday night. So I went with a family friend to the Falkirk game (barring me all my family are Falkirk fans).

As a neutral but still someone who wishes Falkirk well, I'll just blurt out that Falkirk are lucky to still have a core fan base of 1,500-2,000 max that go to every home game. We were in the main stand with a 90yo. A delightful lad who's followed Falkirk since the late 40's but has seen little worse than now.

I think the issue with Rennie is that, even though he's a Scotsman, his football career has all been in the States so perhaps he's a bit naive to Scottish football? He's come in at the deep end but really needs swimming lessons. However he's still got Sheerin's team. The main transfer window is in summer so I'd personally allow him to start from scratch over summer and build his own team. However if it goes tits up within the first half dozen games or so then the buck stops with him.

Montrose didn't look like a part time team but should have scored more. They'd get a game for the Glasgow Warriors with the times they booted the ball over the bar.

Controversial maybe but I thought their 2nd was a penalty.

Anyways, I hope you're all well.

Is that his first start with 4 games of the season left?

Miotti was one of the signings I was most looking forward to see play this year and he hasnt even got to play 10 yet

He may have come off the bench earlier in the season.

However with Ollie Smith injured and Josh McKay injured or whatever we needed cover. At least it allowed Thompson to start at 10.

Zebre were poor but we still butchered opportunities to get a bigger win. We're still not ruthless enough under Wilson.

He's worth a contract just for the line out but hopefully we see less of him next year with the big Saffer and Cummings taking most of the minutes.

Harley has somehow been past it for 2 years despite only being 31 years old.

I think Richie is a quality player who'd be in my team every week. However with Harley away and Kiran McDonald joining Wasps then Richie, Cummings and JP du Preez will add depth and real competition.

Harley could be a squad player at an Exeter or Sarries, a bit like Swinson but he's not an internationalist imo.

As for the Autumn Tests, NZ are NZ but Fiji give me the fear based on how we played during the 6 Nations.

  5. Danny Wilson should know Welsh rugby inside out. Getting torn apart at the Scarlets and blowing it against Cardiff, both sides well down the table, shouldn't be happening. Then there's the loss in Benneton.

To compete for silverware these games need won. Consistency is a huge issue with a team that should be doing FAR better.

Why was Thompson hooked for Weir?

Is it really working with the current coaches?

Glasgow sign another no.8 for next season.

Great signing, im just hoping it doesnt mean we are losing Dempsey or Fagerson.

Just to repluy on the 4th test, Chile, Brazil or Uruguay would be good choices for a 4th test.

I heard that Ryan Wilson is retiring. If that's true that could be the reason. However Danny Wilson talks about creating "strength in depth". Not a phrase associated with replacing players. We'll see...

If it is Chile, that's a great decision by the SRU.

TBF to them (and I rarely am), we have always been one of the first to offer Test matches against the emerging nations.

We need to do that in the November tests more often. Traditionally we play 3 games. Usually 2 Tier 1 teams and a Tier 2 team.

However last season we arranged a 4th Test at the start against Tonga. We need to do this going forward against a Tier 3 side such as Spain, Chile, Canada, USA or Uruguay. Playing away at a Tier 1 nation in front of their crowd will be hugely beneficial to them...

  8. Tom English said in his recent article that a 4th game will be added to the 3 Tests in Argentina.

I'd wager it'll be the previous weekend before the 1st Test to offer a warm up game.

I'm hearing it'll be against Chile. They've got a 2 legged World Cup qualifier vs the USA so it's a good warm up for them too if it's true.

This but im assuming that along with Tuipolotu hes been with the Scotland squad all week so wont be up to speed as much as Weir on the expected game plan

    That's a good point actually...

  10. Elsewhere it's the 1872 derby at home to Edinburgh.

I'm fairly happy with the team but Duncy starting ahead of Thompson is an oddity to me.  I think Thompson offers far more attacking threat than Weir.

Our pack is looking solid at least.  Edinburgh have both their lethal Argentinian wingers starting and Immelman at 15.  We've been quite inconsistent in Danny Wilson's reign but they'll rip us apart if we're not on song...

  11. KInghorn can probably do a solid enough job with Edinburgh but he's not international quality imho.  Even on the wing I remember at my end, and wing, of the park at Murrayfield when he needed to make a try saving tackle but I think it was Keith Earls that flattened him and that was that.

Russell has picked up too many cards these days and is generally playing like a self indulgent superstar that believes his own hype.  He was needing dropped to get himself sorted.  However it should be Hastings starting all day.

We need to hold our own tomorrow.  If the 6N was won based on talk and bluster we'd win every year.  If our discipline is poor we'll spend most of the game in our 22 or behind the posts...

  12. Spain in Scotland's pool at the World Cup next year as Europe 2.

That aside the players are good enough but it's inconsistent tactics.  We'll probably finish 5th as Ireland will be too clinical and brutal for us in Dublin (it could be a sore one) and Wales will BP Italy.

I can't see us changing head coach just 18 months away from the world cup.

I say we just write off this Saturday and focus on going back to the drawing board this summer in Argentina.

  13. I saw little to trouble Ireland in Dublin next Saturday. It was disjointed, we allowed Italy to stay competitive and gave them 3 tries.

Since we got knocked out of the pool stage at the last World Cup, we've had 2 4th place finishes in a row. Wales will get the bonus point in Cardiff vs Italy next Saturday so we'll probably be 5th this year. This is 18 months from the next World Cup with South Africa and Ireland in the pool. We're playing for 3rd on this evidence.

However, to appease the apologists who only want to hear positivity, it's still a bonus point win. Hogg was good but Price was excellent. Johnson and Harris in the centres were excellent and so was Rory Darge.

Great players but not well coached imo. A bit like at Glasgow these days.

  14. I'd wager we'll get the win with the bonus point. The 2nd try was an incredible interception, run and chip and finish.

Apart from that though we'll get put to bed in Dublin based on this performance and in 18 months time at the world cup we'll be playing for 3rd imo. Not good enough.

Read various tweets from folk all defending him, if the defender is actually dropping to a height that he should be to make a legal tackle then he doesn't get hit in the face, and it was an attempt at a hand off that was a fraction of a second out. Do we know who was on the panel?

The game in Rome is really giving me the fear now given how far the performances have dropped since the England game, and a lot of players now out with injury too.

I'm not too fussed that Duhan is out for the next 2 games.  There's something far more wrong than we thought if we need him for Rome and there's no pressure in Dublin as we'll either be defending in our 22 or waiting for conversions to be kicked behind our posts all game regardless if he was playing.

For that reason too I'd start both games with either Hastings or Thompson at 10 with the other on the bench.  Finn's picked up 2 cards in 3 6 Nations games.  He's talented on his day but also just plain self indulgent.  He shouldn't be beyond getting dropped for a bit.

If we do lose in Rome then at least the SRU will soon realise it'll be the 3rd poor 6 Nations in a row for us since getting booted at the pool stage of the 2019 World Cup with just 18 months till the next World Cup with Ireland and South Africa.  Maybe they'll make changes to the coaching...

I dont know if it was the tactics, but we had a quality backline in Johnson, Steyn, Forbes, McKay and SMith, yet constantly kicked the ball away even though we made yards with ball in hand. I dont know if it was all down to Weir, but we have looked a different team when Thompson starts

If the tactics are to kick then the players will do what they're told I guess.  It wasn't all down to Weir.  Duncy is a sensible head who simply doesn't do what he's not capable of.  Thompson is the next Finn tbh, just without the maverick.  Within 5 years he'll be cigaring it in England or France.
