  1. Even the idea of teams being as rigid as playing one or two up front is becoming increasingly archaic tbh. Most sides I watch now have totally different formations and shape when in and out of possession, with very few remaining "big lumps" who just stay up through the middle.

I only watched Falkirk play four times this past season but I certainly didn't see massive issues in terms of formation or style of play. I don't think the players were significantly worse than ours but we seemed to have far more resilience and McPake appeared more reactive in changing shape and personnel when things weren't going well.

Perfect example of McGlynn's intransigence was the 1-0 Pars win at TFS; McPake had him on toast tactically all afternoon and rather than concede he'd been bested and learning from it, he wrote it off as bad luck because his side had enjoyed so much of the ball.

We were often poor in spells during games, especially during the first half, but McPake was able to make small tweaks which often turned matches in our favour. He's not a fantastic coach or a tactical genius but he's humble enough to admit when his plan hasn't worked. I don't really see that from McGlynn tbh. Instead he tends to blame his own players or external factors, rather than hold his hands up.

It's hard to fix a problem if you can't admit you have a problem. McGlynn is a good enough coach to get Falkirk out of League 1 next season but he needs to accept this season's failure and learn from it or I fear he'll just end up going down the same road again.

  2. Would be fuming with McGlynn's post-match video if I was a Falkirk fan tbh.

No apology, zero acceptance that his tactics were wrong or even any suggestion that he was to blame for the defeat in any way. Also laughably suggests they're still in the tie "because I once threw away a four-goal lead against Hamilton".

I'm sure the players were atrocious on the night but terrible management to just lay a devastating defeat entirely at their feet. Suggests he's very concerned about the sack and is either trying to head that off or getting his excuses in early if/when he gets binned.

As I said earlier, the man is loser at his core.

Not entirely the same situation but we found ourselves 3-1 down to Forfar and they scored about 15 seconds into the second leg. We somehow went on to win 6-4, although Forfar had 2 if not 3 sent off. Then we went to Alloa in the final and lost 3-0. IIRC we still had big support, especially the Forfar game but 4 is a huge gulf. You’d fancy Airdrie to score on Saturday too!

Yeah I think a few people may have swerved the second leg if Husband hadn't scored late consolation at Station Park to make it 3-1.

By f**k what a terrible performance that was.

I've gotten over my trauma but I was once ambushed by an aggressive peacock in Pittencrieff Park and I assume gang violence has only gotten worse now Dunfermline is a big city.

Probably were just protecting the pea chicks so I wouldn't take it personally.

Kinda amazed the Pars have never tried to do a photoshoot with the players and the peacocks, considering what a wacky addition it is to the city when you think about it.

The real question is how many will be at the return leg

    Interesting question actually.

Not sure what I would do if Dunfermline were ever in a similar situation but think I'd probably head along in case of the miracle and then leave early for the pub when it doesn't happen.

Think it will be very tight but fancy Falkirk to win narrowly on aggregate.

Or Falkirk will absolutely shit their pants and get utterly destroyed. An utter humiliation and barring a miracle on Saturday, McGlynn's jacket will be on a very shoogly peg.

However, Airdrie were 3-0 up against us and lost and I remember them being 3-1 up vs Rovers with 5 mins to play a few years ago and still losing so tie not quite as dead as it should be. Especially when you consider David Hutton's shell will be in goals because Rae has sold the jerseys yet again.

Potter, for me, hasn't done well & regardless of the Raith stuff, should have been moving on.

He's 100% not a Head Coach and it's not surprising in the least that he's struggled again when given the top job.

Hopefully, his latest move indicates he's finally realised this fact and no club will be daft enough to give him another management gig.

  8. Have little interest in seeing us pursuing McGowan on a permanent basis tbh. Don't feel he made much of an impact, will be turning 36 early next season and will likely be towards the higher end of the wage scale.

However, McPake's recruitment has been pretty much spot on and he's earned the right to make decisions without plebs like me whingeing from the sidelines so if he thinks it's the right move then let's do it.

  9. Also wish this was on TV, especially the second leg next weekend. Will be tears and snotters whatever happens.

He won't be sacked if they lose but it would result in McGlynn being under *huge* pressure from Match 1 next season. Falkirk fans seem to be judging his performance against one of their worst seasons in living memory, instead of the fact that he failed to even compete for the title despite having the biggest budget in the league.

Airdrie are a really decent side and it's crazy they ended up 21 points adrift of the Pars, considering they outscored us by 19 goals! They've actually managed to score a ridiculous 150 goals over the last two league campaigns. Won't mean much if they don't get promoted, though.

Think it will be very tight but fancy Falkirk to win narrowly on aggregate.

    That's quite the take.

It's the Premiership version that's the outlier, allowing as it does for the higher league side to enter a final of a tournament that most participants from the lower division need to enter at the quarter final stage.

They justify it by pointing to the two additional top flight league games. That, however, is the excuse for skewing it in the top flight side's favour, rather than the reason for it.

Due to the '1 up: 1 down' nonsense of the SPL era, we're pathetically grateful that it ever changed.  It still features loaded dice though.

We can't pretend the play-offs are fair to begin with. Finishing 4th in a 10-team league shouldn't result in you having any additional opportunity to gain promotion. You basically finished mid-table ffs.

That being said, I really enjoy that they're a part of our leagues because it undoubtedly makes things more interesting.

  11. Slightly surprised to not see any of the young guys involved this afternoon but I guess their midweek hammering - and the desire to keep the unbeaten record going - put the ixnay on that.

Not sure if Alloa would rather play Falkirk or Hamilton in the play-offs? Could well be an easier route to the final if they finish 4th rather than 3rd.

  12. For what it's worth, Todorov was telling people at the POTY dinner that he had heard nothing about a new deal. Writing is on the wall IMO but I don't think it's the wrong decision tbf.

Personally feel Bene is an obvious pick for the PFA POTY - Todd has been excellent but Bene's performances and leadership have been the major reason we've become champions.

  13. Going to have to beat the curse of finishing 4th in the Championship.

Every side finishing 4th has lost the quarter-final tie since these play-offs were introduced for the end of the 2013/2014 season.

In fact, Queen of the South in 13/14 and Raith Rovers in 15/16 are the only seasons the 4th placed side has even won one of the two legs!
