A few general points:
- I personally detest the idea of 'B' teams being included in the pyramid. Even seeing "Stranraer Reserves" in the SOSL gives me the boak. Why would you pollute your league with teams who have zero ambition and exist solely to support a different club?
- Remember when people tried to argue the 'B' teams were just going to be included for "one season only" and some utter cretins believed it and reported it as fact?
- The addition of a 'Conference' or 'League 3' could actually be decent but it absolutely does not need Rangers and Celtic reserve sides included. I'd prefer they just expanded League 2 into a 16-team division though, with the bottom two being automatically relegated. It's utterly absurd that you can finish bottom of the SPFL and still get to save yourselves in a play-off.
- Comparing our pyramid with the one in England is utterly and completely depressing. You've got Luton, who could well have gone from Conference to Premier League and Scunthorpe who have fallen from Championship to the Conference North. The system should be set up so that, at least in theory, any team can go from pub league to Champions League or vice versa. Instead, we have two clubs running the show and a whole bunch of self-serving clubs more than happy to kiss their arse and take a few bribes.

Before opening this thread I had genuinely forgotten that Cowdenbeath Football Club still existed.

Great to read back through all this.

Yesterday was extremely enjoyable and I think everyone associated with the team this season should be extremely proud of their efforts. People can argue that we're a full-time club in a mostly part-time league but I think anyone who follows Scottish football closely will know just how impressive it is to lose only one out of 33 matches. Think we're on course for a record points total, unbeaten run and fewest defeats as well.
Winning 5-0 also felt quite out of tune from most of our performances during the campaign. Our strengths have been in being hard to score against and almost impossible to beat. To see us strut our stuff and deliver a bit of a humping felt like a welcome treat. It's been frustrating sometimes to watch us but I've been struck all season by how hard this squad works and how they can come alive in 15-20 minute spells and overwhelm the opposition.
Lots of players deserve credit but Kyle Bendictus is POTY for me. An inspirational leader from the back and I honestly can't remember him having anything close to a poor game. Super consistent, improves his teammates and provides them with the reassurance that he has things handled at the back. Think this season could have turned out very differently if he'd missed a significant chuck of games but thankfully he's managed to play every minute.
Imagine saying before the start of this season that Matty Todd, Joe Chalmers and Deniz Mehmet would be key figures in a runaway Pars title success? The improvement in Todd especially has amazed me; I remember seeing him playing against Falkirk at EEP and being utterly seething at what a gutless shitebag he looked. Now he's a tireless, goalscoring midfielder and loving life as the archetypal hometown hero.
As for McPake, I had no idea what to expect when he was appointed. I was confident he would have to better than Grant or Hughes - is it possible to do worse? - but I wasn't sure if he would be able to see off the challenge from a Falkirk side managed by McGlynn. Well, he ended up schooling him throughout the season and his masterclass at TFS in November was a thing of beauty. I don't believe McGlynn has mentally recovered from that defeat and his subsequent rambling meltdown about corner kicks. He deserves immense credit for what he has achieved and doing so by including so many players still scarred by relegation.
Similar to my previous post about David Cook, the true test of McPake will be how he copes when things aren't going as smoothly on the pitch. If we struggle in the first quarter next season how will he handle it? Will the good vibes from this season mean supporters remain loyal if we suffer a disappointing derby defeat versus Raith? Is he capable of going further than AJ did following promotion and build a team that can fight for the Championship title?
I've had a really challenging year personally and experienced some pretty bleak moments. Having the opportunity to distract myself with the Pars has felt like a privilege and on many occasions has added hours of enjoyment when I needed it the most. I can only echo what others have said about the lads in the NW; even being near to that enthusiasm and energy is infectious. The atmosphere at EEP would be utterly abject without them and the players now head straight over there when a big goal is scored.
Hope all other Pars fans had a lovely weekend and take some time to savour this - in almost 140 years this is only our 7th league title and we have to make the most of the good times for as long as they stick around.

Credit to David Cook reducing the season ticket prices for that age group. He has got it spot on with a few things since his arrival.
I think he's had a very good first season in the role.
Although, the true test of his abilities will be how he handles things when we aren't doing so well on the pitch and fans turn a bit. Hopefully that isn't for some time ofc!

As already said, the same level of quality should be minimum from us compared to other clubs of a similar size. There's issues every couple of games or so, not for long but enough to be frustrating.
Apparently we need to upgrade the gantry area, any investment in Parstv should be going to that but I've yet to hear anything over the past years.
I respect the fact that people are giving up their time to try and deliver a service for supporters who aren't able to attend the matches. However, having watched a few games during lockdown it is definitely not something that I would consider paying for again.
I know a couple of guys that spoke to those involved at the Volunteers Night a few months back and they never heard anything back. Have to admit that Brian going in the huff in search of sympathy/pity should surprise nobody. This is a man in the past who would delete and edit posts on Dot Net because the club told him to. They actually had someone in the office who would read through the threads and flag any topics the club didn't want discussed by users.

Well lads n lassies. Pars win our next 2 games then we can win the league at your gaff. The shite is fleeing from you all.
Only if Falkirk don't beat Clyde next week and I don't care how poorly they've played in their last couple of matches, they're not dropping points there.

Not seen you post in a while PoTM, good to see you back
Appreciate that Grant, thank you!
Although I imagine it will be a very temporary return before I come back in the summer to start a new Last Man Standing competition.

Ah shit, you're right, only 5 more after Falkirk! However that does then mean that we can indeed win the league in Grangemouth should we win the next three and they lose the next three (with the third game for each team being the one in Grangemouth). In fact in that scenario a draw would see us win the league (we'd go 16 clear with 15 points available after).
Like I said though, that's pretty unlikely. Can't see Falkirk losing twice and think next Saturday will be a tough game.
Still, would be nice if it happened!
Think you're forgetting that Falkirk would also get a point if there was a draw between us

Long shot, but if we win our next two and Falkirk lose their next two then, should we win at Grangemouth in the game after, we would 18 points clear with only 18 points available after.
So in effect we could all but win the league there.
Doubt it will happen as I can't see a scenario where we win the next two and Falkirk lose the next two, but there is a chance.
There are only five games left after the Falkirk game on 8th April, so we'd need to be between 13-15 points clear to be able to win the title that day. Since that can only happen if Falkirk fail to win either of their next two games - Kelty at home and Clyde away - it's a fairly safe bet that won't be happening.
However, I'm sure today's limp display will have tempered the hopes of anyone getting carried away. Still plenty of work to do and we were fortunate today that Falkirk also slipped up. Glad to hear McPake was fuming post-match and rightly so.

Must admit to quite strongly disagreeing with this. I like them both as pundits as I find them both quite charismatic, and i enjoy hearing what they have to say about Saints, even though a lot of the time I disagree with their analysis.
Do agree that I’m not really interested in what they have to say about other clubs, so maybe that’s why a Dunfermline fan doesn’t think the analysis adds anything?
Stephen Thompson has regularly been involved in the Championship coverage on BBC, so another swing and a miss there champ.
BBC do target the lowest common denominator of viewer so it’s not a shocker you enjoy the coverage. Probably a big Love Island fan as well.

Used to have a VHS they put out with all the Euro nights, cup wins etc, bus parade through the town etc. Looked like it was from another lifetime but it was probably only from 20-odd years earlier and now when i think back to games from the mid 90s they are still fresh in the mind.
Gap between now and the 95/96 season is almost as big as between 95/96 and 68 Cup win.
Mental.

Are you basically saying just abandon sportscene and have the highlights online?
I’m fine with the highlights being on TV, I’d just far rather watch football than have it split up with idiots talking about it.

If I just want a highlights reel, I can go to the official SPFL/SFA youtube channels.
What do you get out of the inane punditry that makes it a better option?
It’s the same with Match of the Day for me; I could never watch that live in a million years because I need to fast forward the chat.

Just wanted a straw poll to make sure I’m not the only one that couldn’t give the slightest f**k what Stephen Thompson or Michael Stewart have to say about football.

Those “journeyman mercenaries” as you call them, vt, realise that being a fitba’ player is just a job. They have lives to live, bills to pay and, in many cases, partners and/or families to provide for. They know they’re never going to make a fortune out of the game.
Who the hell are you to sneer at them for taking the offer of more money and/or a longer deal? As opposed to earning less by staying in a Championship where we almost universally agree that the standard of football is not much higher than shite? In the real world, that’s the kind of decision that people have to make. And most other people are big enough, sensible enough and worldly enough to appreciate the reasons behind their decisionsIf there is a Scottish urban dictionary online then I vote the term ‘birthday caird pish’ links directly to this post.

Why would Sky be due compensation for a game being postponed? It’s the same situation as if the pitch was waterlogged; just tough shit really.

Simon Murray is fairly shite but the league is very shite so he’s more than good enough at this level.
He’d probably score more than Hemmings did.

Robbie Muirhead is one of the worst players I’ve ever seen in a Dunfermline shirt. Literally came on once, stood on the ball and fell over.
Complete pish and I’d rather sign Lowland League players.

Would Kelty be in the NE region for this? They play out the same way as Dunfermline and Cowden who are always in NE, but with Brora obviously being in that section too I wonder if they'll put Kelty in SW or change a team that were NE last season to SW this.
edit - regions don't usually bother me, but the thought of getting Barry Fergusons mob and them beating us isn't a pleasant one.
We actually ended up playing St Mirren last year so the regional pots are hazy at best.
The group stages are barely more than slightly better pre-season games normally and they’ll mean even less this year. Just a chance to get some match fitness with positive results a nice bonus.

Imagine Robbie Neilson if he didn’t have cash chucked in his direction. An absolute charlatan.

If you’d held a gun to my head I’d have told you Gary Oliver already played for Morton.

Has to be some striker with a Hibs link to break the Fist of Gorgie on opening night.

With some lockdown restrictions back in place in Aberdeen, does this put Saturday’s game under threat of being postponed?

I’m so out of the loop...is Hemmings leaving a bad thing?
