Iv always liked him. You obviously see him more than me. Is he on the decline?

Yeah, him and Hyde both slowed down last year. Wouldn't be surprised if both retire.

Also released Siran Neal who was a special teams guy and as of 5 minutes ago starting centre Mitch Morse which is a surprise. Seems like it could be a clear the decks year with the big cap hits for Diggs and Von Miller. No point in releasing them this season and going full rebuild but don't expect either to be on the team in 2025.

Deonte Harty gone as well, less of a surprise.

  2. Yeah from our highlights Moult definitely lucky to stay on, soon as the ball goes over his head from the long ball forward he stops looking at it, turns and deliberately runs into Williams with his forearm / elbow leading to Williams' face.

Can't even see who it hits for their penalty claim but I think the strength of reaction of their players suggests we got away with one.

A good point and stops the run of defeats. The form teams vary quickly in this league, before the weekend you'd have said Morton would definitely win and Arbroath would lose. A couple of weeks ago Dunfermline looked favourites for 9th and now they're 5th. We're still too far back to win the league but hopefully can kick on and secure a playoff place and take it from there.

  3. I actually don't see us changing much, we're unlikely to change shape as our entire attacking gameplan is getting overloads in wide areas, and we're now playing with 2 defensive midfielders.

Maybe a change in goal and one of the midfielders will be different but I can't see wholesale changes especially when our options at the back are Ngwenya and Williams.

  4. To score 9 goals in 4 games and win none of them is some defensive achievement.  Hard to see where our next point is coming from but we'll scab at least one win from somewhere (38 points is safe more often than not if we don't) so we're not going down, and we're not going up regardless of where we finish with this defence and mentality.

Keep it tight for 60 seconds after the 3rd goal and everything is with us to go on and win it, Ayr hadn't been out their half for about twenty minutes.  Pay a sports psychologist or fucking someone.

    FUCKING TELT YOUS

think 3 is a bit conservative. Even at 2-1 I was going to say I don't feel we're a great team to be playing with the wind chasing a game as we'll just launch balls towards Graham which will go out of play but that's game set and match now, even if we get 4 we'll probably lose another 3.

Second goal is a bit unlucky as guy sclaffs it straight to one of his teammates but the 3rd sums up this defence, long punt from keeper, flick on, goal. 3 touches. Sunday morning amateur stuff at best.

  6. I wonder if Adeloye thought he'd get more game time with Graham turning 36 but instead Graham actually seems to be getting more prolific with age.

Adeloye's quite similar to Dowds last season for us in that his goals off the bench are in games where we were already multiple goals up (making it 4-1 vs Morton, 4-0 vs Ayr, and 3-0 and 4-0 vs Arbroath) whereas when he's been asked to come off the bench in a game we're not 2 goals up in he hasn't scored once. However as said he's started 2 league games and scored in both of them.

Dowds looked great in that similar role at the start of last season but his confidence was completely gone by the end of it and Doolan didn't trust him in the playoffs, think he only got on in the second leg vs Ayr when the game was long over. Loan move has worked out well for him and I'm surprised Ayr didn't try and sign him permanently in January, partly so he can play against us and partly so they don't lose him to someone else in the summer.

  7. Stewart almost seemed too confident, he was coming for crosses he had no chance of getting, kicking passbacks first time on a bumpy surface. Like the opposite of Sneddon. I'd be surprised if he's dropped after one game.

The wider defensive issues I don't know how we fix, if Lawless is injured after last night we could maybe try a back 3 as Mcmillan and Milne have got the ability to play as wing backs.

Same with set pieces, third goal last night Bannigan is on the post but he's so tight to the post he's practically hugging it. Unlike against Livi, Dunfermline didn't have half a dozen guys who were massive so it's not as if we ended up with a mismatch.

We've taken 14 points from first quarter and 15 from second. We're on 9 with 3 to play, we took 4 points from the equivalent games first time round but Ayr will be a tougher test this time although at least Dowds can't haunt us.

Dubiety over the corner for the Pars’ equaliser too, didn’t look like it crossed the line but haven’t seen it back.

Fair point that, it seems to have got missed in amongst all the other decisions. Linesman was definitely guessing on that one as he wasn't up with play.

You're also right about the mentality, you could have blown for full time as soon as the second goal was disallowed, the only surprise was that Graham or Muirhead didn't end up with a red card, though Robinson could have.

  9. Aye, as scandalous as the second disallowed goal was we've just not done anything since it went to 1-1, three (and counting) goals conceded for the third game in a row, another concession from a corner, keeper issues no nearer being sorted. Dunfermline have been very comfortable second half

This ref is a wee dweeb though, just looked at his previous games and he was the one that sent off Akinola vs Airdrie and missed the red card for County in the first leg of the playoff before VAR picked it up.

If someone with a less demanding work life than the A-lister that I am cared to come up with a table of seasons spent in the second tier over the past 35 seasons, then that'd be as appreciated as it would be interesting.

Not 35 years but since we went to 4 leagues of 10 in 1994/5 up til the end of last season so 29 seasons. Average position also included for each season a team spent in second tier. The seasons in top flight / outside second tier should be accurate but not 100% as bit of manual counting there.

QoS a bit higher than I thought but other than that as you'd expect. The table of "most championship-y teams" is :

    Morton
    Raith
    QoS
    Falkirk
    Ayr
    Dundee
    Partick Thistle
    St Mirren
    Dunfermline
    Airdrie

    Also amended your quote ;)
