Up to a point. The Manager assembles the squad and in key areas, midfield creativity and goal threat especially, we have been found wanting all season. Against that we have an over-abundance of right-sided defensive players. In other words, an unbalanced squad, and that bit us big time today. I feel yourself Wilf, Moonster and others are 'investing' much more thought into this than Brabco have ever done. They are fast-buck merchants, only not overly good at it as their bucks may take a long time to materialise. If his contract has an 'escape clause' then there would be very little need for any compensation, and I would hazard that may exactly be the case. As for comments in interviews, well, they are just that.

We have to be sure that we are adding quality to the squad, and that's why we will be taking time to weigh up all our options. It's important too that we can introduce players who will complement our playing style and give us additional options all over the pitch. We hope to be in a position to firm things up soon on a couple of fronts but we must always be aware of the budgetary aspects and act accordingly.

Johnny, if and it's a massive if, a new ground were to materialise then there's every chance the core support could drop further considering the location and access. As regards season 2003-4, perhaps the novelty of Sons being in the mix after a long time out of it plus some entertaining games were contributory factors. And nowadays the football experience at Dumbarton is simply too dear for all but the diehards.
