I thought we should have sacked Faz after the relegation from League 1 but credit where credit’s due - acted quickly to bring in Hogarth & Newbury (as much as I like Broun and Lynas, the former two are upgrades), and whatever was said at half-time clearly got the right reaction from the players. Still very much in the play-off mix.

    Frustrated World Cup GIF

I was at a QP/Sons league match when 3/4 if the current seating was in, the East Stand was still getting fitted out (1999 or 2000 then, probs? Back when QP still had a fan that took a trombone to games.). QP fans in main stand, Sons in North. Looked even less than above attendance. Got parked on the street right outside the North right enough, so every cloud and all that.

Is there a worse collective group of drivers than parents on the school run?

Yes - parents who have done the school run twice during the day, then try to drive on a main route in the dark in the evening (M8, Edi bypass) and crash into other people, causing massive traffic jams.

I wasn’t sure if it should go in here or in the “tin-pot” thread, but the BBC shoe-horning 1966 references in the articles about Franz Beckenbauer is a massive riddy.

Caught this on Radio 2 news at 6pm, they actually managed to make it sound like winning the WC as both a player and manager was a lesser achievement than losing to England in the '66 final. c***s just canny help themselves.

Its funny, as I said to the boy earlier - people think that "trades" love being paid in cash but the nature of mine is mostly B2B, so everything is kosher - I genuinely cant remember the last time anyone offered, never mind paid me in the folding stuff !

Me either, but one of my other clients 'kens the score' - gave me an Xmas card with notes in it 👍

First job of the New Year finished, asked the boy if he wanted me to send an invoice or pay on the card..................he said "I have cash if that works?".

Got a text from 1 of my customers the week before Xmas - "Sorry I didn't catch you in person, so I've sent you a wee xmas present via the way we usually pay you weekly"

    🤦‍♂️

Totally appreciate them sending me a gift, but having to now pay tax on it was a gutter.

I really don't really remember folk saying that tbh from a Celtic fan point of view. Many said he wasn't going to be a first team pick for Celtic straight away which was understandable given we had Brown, McGregor and and Rogic at the time. The valuation thing was more Lawwell being aware no one else was in for him untill Aston Villa had a fast take over and ended up making a c**t of it over a a couple of hundred grand.  Apparently we did match it eventually but he had already agreed with Aston Villa. He went to the championship as well so I doubt many would have doubted his talents there.

I will be honest and say I didn't see him developing in to the player he is now but the way folk throw the quote Tom English used at the time as some sort of Alan Hansenesque faux pas as to him not getting in the Celtic XI wasn't an outlandish claim at all really. The real one who should be red faced is Lawwell.

Genuine question - do you think, if Celtic HAD signed him, and he then developed into the player he is now, he'd still be at Celtic now?  Or would he have been sold on at the significant profit he'd've generated?

Was it invitational? Did some teams decide not to take part for some reason?

It was the 10 teams who were in the Premier at the time.*

Celtic didn't play for some reason, so Airdrie were invited in their place to make up the 10. I presume they were top of the 1st when Celtic declined, so got 1st invite.

*Yes, Dumbarton were actually in the Premier in season 84/85, believe it or not.
