  1. I used to think the same, until my ipod was out of commission for a wee while. When I did go out with no music, and just the sound of slapping feet, struggling lungs & my own suffering, my per km times got better! Think I was more focussed. Like you, I get edgy if I haven't been out for a couple of days. Does anyone else get to the stage that if you drive past runners when you haven't been out yourself (especially if you've been laid up with injury/illness) you get so insanely jealous that you imagine yourself smacking them one? Or is it just me that takes that too far?
  2. All that, plus Jerome Flynn was allowed to sing!
  3. as all have said brilliant episode. Which, I reckon, is because the whole time was centred around the one part of the story, instead of jumping from Qarth to the Wall to Winterfell to,....... I understand why they need to keep all the different characters and stories bubbling along, but focussing on the battle alone last night made great TV. Highlighted all the more by the fact that Mrs Ranter was watching TOWIE immediately before. 2 extremes.
  4. 5.5 miles tonight, with mile 4 up a long steady incline AND into the wind. #routeplanningforidiots
  5. I'm not even gloating any more, I'm genuinely gobsmacked that this turn has been taken. I was going to decribe it as RFC committing suicide, but it's actually a euthanasia - H&D have taken steps that will see Rangers killed off. I know you've probably been asked this before, but which century do you actually live in? No need to answer, keep the thread on topic!
  6. Sorry for this being question week! I've had to get a new smartphone this week as my Nokia N8 died. Now got a Samsung Galaxy, and it seems like it and Endomondo don't like speaking to each other. Anyone recommend a good similar application that will work with a Samsung? Please don't recommend anything that will involve buying an extra device, the Ranter household is under austerity measures at the moment.
  7. Many thanks to all who have replied about my knee. I saved myself £30/£40/£50 last night at the gym, by remembering that I had wapped my kneecap a good 'un on the corner of a desk at work on Sunday. And the pain's nearly gone this morning.
  8. All that, and Wilko Johnson's back!
  9. Question - anyone any ideas what it is when I have a sharp pain down the front of my left kneecap? Best way I can think to describe it is - imagine my kneecap's a clockface, so 12 at top and 6 at bottom. If you drew a line from 11 to 7, that's where the pain is, ie just off centre, and towards the inside of my leg. The pain comes when I straighten the leg, like when on my bike the other day, I was getting pain when pushing the pedal with left foot. Anyone had that before, and what is it?
  10. My similar question is - the guy who's been bumping people off to help Arya because she let him out of the locked cage - if he's that good at taking people out, how did he end up captured by someone in the first place?
  11. I've just had to write off 20+ pages due to having something to celebrate for once. Never mind, back on the usual behaviour now. Are they deid yet?
  12. so it was! great trivia spotting. he's obviously recovered from his insanity or alcoholism or whatever it was he suffered just before the end of TTHR. Between him and Ron Donachie High Road's been well represented (James Cosmo been in High Road at all?) If you're that good, what's the burd who plays the red-haired wildling that's been driving Jon Snow mad for the last 2 weeks been in before? I know her face from something, but can't place it. EDIT - never mind, got of my lazy virtual arse and did my own research. Rose Leslie, been in an episode of Vera, current series. The pregnant girlfriend of a suspect, she worked in the garden centre.
  13. That was my take on it - it's the farm kids.
  14. I have a horrendous vision of a bloke in lingerie winding the troglodytes up now. Thanks. Thanks a lot.
  15. If McCoist etc go to Miller, then Miller only sees what they take with them? If Miller comes to Ibrox, there's always the chance he'll say "howdy, yes siree, these accounts look ok. Can I look at all those folders in that filing cabinet in that little-old room in the furthest away corner of the stadium too"? Cue awkward silence and much looking-at shoes from McCoist, Haudit & Daudit, etc.
  16. I've been doing a couple of between 6 and 10 mile runs a week, it's not that I just had a 'eureka' moment and got off the couch, strapped on my gutties and ran for 13 miles. It is, however, the first time I've done a half marathon distance. Overall I normally run 25-35km a week, depending on whether I've got out 2 or 3 times. The last couple if months I've restricted my running a bit in defernce ot gym work to try and build up a bit, but now is the time to get back out on the road.
  17. Finally decided to get my arse in gear and start preparing for the Glasgow half marathon, by going out and aiming for the distance, regardless of time. Managed 13.44 miles, which is the furthest I've ever run in my nelly puff, though from 11 onwards it was a real struggle. Half Marathon times at 1:59, which I'm chuffed with considering I'd've taken anything under 2 hours, I'm an old git, I'm at the arse end of a cold (the green, slimy mucus stage), and most tellingly, I'm crap at distance running!
