This is the thing that some members of our support don't seem to get. Tried, tested and sucessful players at this level are beyond our means. I have no intention of watching the club 'speculate to accumulate' it's way out of existence.
Theoretically, I'm quite happy with the signing (if we make it of course). A young, reasonably well regarded defender within our price range. However, there's the nagging doubt about signing an Alloa defender after their 'interesting' season.
Your general point was excellent.
Still though, Sloan will usually have a mid-season dip due to his fitness levels being roughly on par with mine. Perhaps, giving him an extra month or two before he's operating at 100% may bode well for us later in the season. Slight clutching at straws I'll admit but it's not far from the truth.
An excellent post Renton.
The vast majority of our squad is unproven at 1st Division level and, therefore, genuine predictions are extremely hard to make. I don't believe we'll finish bottom (cheers Mr Massone) and I'm not overly impressed with the additions to Ayr's squad.
Working on the presumption that we'll be the three at the bottom then we're not gonna collapse in the manner that some seem to expect. It's also worth noting that first Division might be a step up but La Liga it ain't.
In all seriousness though, there are plenty of players in the squad who will get the ball in the box. If the gaffer signs someone who can put away 10 - 15 of those chances than we'll be fine going forward (for survival's sake anyway).
A decent CB and hideously good luck with injuries/suspensions and we'll not be far off survival.
After a slight change in perspective (possibly due to the consumption of chocolate Ice Cream) I'm quite happy with the squad.
We might get relegated but by f**k we'll do it playing attacking football.
So far we have 8 players who are all about the forward thrusts;
Wilson
Sloan
Simmons
Smith
Williamson
Ferry
Tade
Weir
Good stuff.
Me too. I am worried though.
And I've said it before, but if it turns out that the big man's answer is no (more than a week after his self-imposed deadline has passed) I'll be pretty pissed off.
It's actually the kind of shirt which speaks of solidity, fight and a lack of need to pretend to be anymore than we are and that we will fight until we lie dead on the battlefields of Dunfermline and Inverness. It tells the world that we are Raith Fucking Rovers!
I'm certainly not suggesting that the man is being less than 100% honest and you are - of course - right about the manager being the only one who knows about the availability of the other signings. An, I agree that he deserves time to make his mind up.
It's been nearly 8 weeks now though and I'm getting nervy. Not unreasonably I think.
