I'd keep that in reserve and look at accommodation again when the groups and games are announced.

Yeah that's the plan, reassess once we know the results of the ballot and where Scotland will be. I guess my one question would be, lets say Scotland's games are elsewhere like Munich or Berlin, are those places going to be a much better atmosphere in terms of fans that don't have tickets to the match, just because the game is at that specific stadium nearby? There's a chance I can get a ticket points wise but the group I'm going with definitely won't.

  2. I'm at a conference in Frankfurt the week before the euros so I'm just going to stay in Germany after. Booked free cancellation hotel rooms for 4 in Cologne 15th-22nd and have applied for games with a few pals at the stadiums that are within an hour or so from there. On the one hand I think a week in Cologne will be good, but on the other hand it might be a better laugh being at whatever location Scotland are actually playing rather than just being in one place? I just don't know tbh.

  3. Another +1 for New Order. Not my generation at all, mainly went to see Confidence Man but thought New Order were excellent. Lights show was great as well. And about 10% of the crowd wankers/phone up the entire gig sorta folk as I've seen lately!

I was disappointed when Gauld moved to Canada, largely for this reason as we would never really know what level he could have got to. It was entirely his decision to make, but ultimately he could have chosen to move to a good league and proven he was better than the likes of Armstrong. It is now very hard for him to prove that - Armstrong has been very good for Southampton over several years, but may be beginning to tail off a bit though.

The thing to remember is, Gauld is also having the time of his life over there. Playing well, making loads of cash, living in a great place. No point in anyone else getting more annoyed about him not being called up than he does!

Clyde have signed Connor Young who was on loan at you lot last season. Did he look like he could cut it at this level?

Not easy to answer, wasn't given much of a chance. Most of the time last year we were starting Shepherd with one man off him and a midfield 4, Young was off the bench most of the time.

Can you still check your club tweets and the like if you close your account? Same with FB?

Yes you can. I don't have an account but could still check the Talbot one.

I'm not sure about this. When anyone sends me a tweet on WhatsApp or whatever, I can only see that tweet and no comments etc. If I go on a generic twitter account, lets say East Fife, I can see the tweets but they're not in order. For example, looking now it's a mix of tweets from 2017, 2021, maybe a couple of recent ones. So can't really be used for updates as you would do now.

I'm a very low level user of Twitter, haven't actually published a Tweet in years, nor interacted in any way with other users. Usually just on it for a look a football accounts etc I follow and I'll occasionally share fitba/funny stuff into a WhatsApp group chat etc. However, I do sometimes find myself just scrolling and wasting time, it would be no loss to me and I certainly wouldn't pay for it. I can get my daily fix of reading/writing utter drivel on here free gratis.

This was pretty similar to me, never tweeted but kept it for fitba news and politics stuff. Deleted it in July, surprisingly easy. As you say, a lot of time just spent aimlessly scrolling. Got rid of Facebook as well. I'd rather waste my time on here where I actually post on the odd occasion!

As an also 6'4"er, I say f**k 'em, stand where you want.

When short people stop reclining airline seats into my knees, I'll start considering their needs at gigs.

Aye, I think we might have to adopt this position from now on. It's shite, because I swear it wasn't like this a few years ago (or certainly not as extensive). I think there has to be either a post-covid or generational thing, because as I say, the crowd at Connect last week were probably averaging 30 or so and everyone was sound and knew how to behave at a show. The chatting thing is the one that does it for me, if you want to chat the whole way through and catch up with your pals, go to the pub!!

  9. Paolo was absolutely excellent last night. Nailed it, great cover of Stealers Wheel, his acoustic end to the set was magical, Iron Sky incredible.

That being said, our time was kinda ruined by the folk we were next to. When we saw him in December, we ended up next to absolute bams at the hydro but managed to move away from them after 15-20 minutes. I can't tell if I'm just getting more intolerant at the ripe old age of 30, but do folk just not know how to behave at gigs anymore? We moved after Inhaler after being stuck in front of a batch of bams again, but failed to account for the plethora of Edinburgh Uni Yah's who rocked up about 3 songs in, spent the entire gig bumping into folk including us, spoke through EVERY SINGLE SONG including when Paolo opened Iron Sky just himself. During a bit of quiet during that opening and they shout out "I LOVE THIS SOUND OF SILENCE!", clearly weren't actually there for the gig, constantly taking photos with the flash on in folks face, made weird comments to folk around them including us,  almost wiped out two young lassies in front of them taking photos at stupid times and when one of our pals told them to pack it said "yeah but we never get to see each other all together!!", and just generally being annoying c***s. They left 3 songs before the end having completed their mission of ruining our night. Of course, folk can read that and say "just move" but when you're quite far forward and you're a group of 6ft4 lads, its not quite as easy as that. We tend to "get into position" quite early so folk can't be upset at our height. We move, we become the c***s.

I don't know if it's covid or whatever but folk in general just seem generally untrained at going to shows these days, and the juxtaposition between that crowd last night and every single sound person at Connect last weekend was stark. Still, Paolo doing some new music next year for anyone interested.

Your parking ticket is a waste of money, no-one was checking tickets at The Killers last night, they were just ushering cars in. Maybe the sheer traffic jam numbers drove that decision.

From your username, I'm presuming you're coming over the bridge to get there? Whatever time you're reckoning for the journey, add an hour at least on.

We joined the queue on the M9, just where the Fife traffic filters onto the M9 too. Took us 90 mins from there, pretty frustrating. Missed Johnny Marr because of it, who I really wanted to see.

Getting back out after was ok, actually easier than getting in.

Car park tip - take a couple of minutes after you park to get a good handle on where you are. When you come back, it'll be dark, and cars will be starting to leave, so the nice neat rows won't be there. My What3Words plan failed spectacularly due to the usual lack of Internet issues at a huge event. Took us fucking ages to find our car again last night.

Cheers, I'm based in Glasgow now so will be battering along the M8 to get there. Unfortunately with the last train being 23:45 I think its too much of a risk getting back to Haymarket in time as I'd imagine the show will go on until half 10 at least much like Connect. Think I'm gonna take a stab at Ingliston P&R first as I think the escape route might be a bit quicker from there.

By continuing to not increase MUP the government is effectively phasing it out

The current price adjusted for inflation is equivalent to 40p at the time MUP was brought in.

I think their recent consultation had options of more than doubling the current level in the near future, but I could well be misremembering.

  12. Anyone been to a stand alone gig at Royal Highland Showgrounds before? Obviously just been there for Connect as above but going back on Thursday for Paolo. I'm just gonna drive and have bought the parking ticket but I'm not sure whether it might be better to park at Ingliston P&R or elsewhere?

Spent Sunday at Connect Festival at the Royal Highland Centre. Fantastic day, saw as much music as I could pack in.

Samuel Nicholson - Really enjoyable psychedelic rock and a great way to kick off the day.

Christian Lee Hutson - Was a nice wee acoustic folk rock set, then he brought out Phoebe Bridgers for the last three songs and the crowd quadrupled in size. They've toured together before, so it made sense, but was a nice surprise.

Quiet Houses - Pleasant Scottish acoustic duo.

Billie Marten - Quite an enjoyable set, quiet indie rock. Good voice.

Lightning Seeds - Absolutely fantastic. I'd forgotten just how many gems they have in their back catalogue. Major nostalgia.

Public Service Broadcasting - Intensely weird, but in a good way. Enjoyable way to spend 45 minutes.

Panic Shack - Female punk from Cardiff. Superb. Relatable songs, loads of energy, will see again.

Raye - Only watched about ten minutes. Not really my thing, but she can definitely sing.

Beth Orton - Dark, brooding indie. Pretty good.

boygenius - The main reason I was there. Blown away. So much talent. Incredible set.

Arab Strap - great way to finish the day. Closing my festival with The First Big Weekend doesn't get much better.

All in all a great day, and home at a reasonable time for work tomorrow!

Big group of us were at this all weekend. Really great fun, festival is such a good atmosphere in comparison to something like TRNSMT. I think the average age is around 30 vs TRNSMT being about 18 so basically no wee bams kicking about, everyone just having a great time.

Future Islands - good set, lead singer is good energy on the stage

Confidence Man - absolutely phenomenal, if you've never seen these guys live I'd encourage everyone to give them a go. What a show.

Franz Ferdinand - only caught 15-20 minutes of them but they sounded really good

Primal Scream - excellent, you know what you're getting.

Free Love - nice start to the day, ended up right down the front, quite quiet as it was the opener but lead singer was a lot of fun
Biig Piig - really enjoyed this. This kicked the day up a notch or two. Will be listening to her a lot this week.
Kelly Lee Owens - pals wanted to see this, wasn't really for me, used this as my food break.
MUNA - absolutely loved this, had been listening to them a lot in the build up but they were fantastic.

Joy (Anonymous) - this was at unknown pleasures, was just a good way to perk ourselves up as not everyone we were with liked MUNA. Having that wee stage playing dance tunes at the entrance is class.

Young Fathers - didn't listen to them much before we went but they were brilliant. Will start to pick them up from now on.

Fred Again - absolutely brilliant to me, few of my pals were a bit underwhelmed. Very, very phone heavy though, often difficult to see the stage because of people holding phones.

We went in a bit later on the Sunday

Public Service Broadcasting - very very cool.

Raye - not really my jam but as you say, very talented

Boy Genius - phenomenal. Their voices compliment each other so, so well. Julien Baker is the one. Was a wee bit sad there was no Modern Leper cover but they're massive as a group in their own right and the gig wasn't just for me I guess!

Loyle Carner - pleasantly surprised by this, spotify listening I thought his vibe was quite mellow but much better live.

Overall a great weekend. Still think the logistics in certain areas can be better and a few folk commented on Guitar and other machines stage / unknown pleasures being on a hill isn't ideal. Hopefully it's on again next year but I think I'll wait for the line up before doing the whole weekend again.

  14. Since the update, I've been consistently getting the forum opening as a 403 error page. I usually fire onto, for example, the TA forum and open every thread that's unread, and more often than not each thread is a 403 error page instead of the thread.
