  1. Tough night last night for Glasgow, againt Leinster you have to be at your best, and sadly we werent. Price looked a bit rusty, and Weir is just not cutting it at 10. Big plus was the back row with Darge and Dempsey looking excellent, and Wilson looking a different player to last season. McLean looks a dangerous winger, always beats the first man, and looks dangerous, centres didnt get enough decent ball to make much impact. Thompson was ok at 15, but shouldnt be there, we need out best 10 playing 10 - I always like Weir but looks like he is going to be 3rd choice now. I think with Thompson at 10 and COle at 15 from teh start we could have got close last night.
  2. Thompson has played a bit full back already, it's probably got as much to do with giving Forbes a bit of a break as he's played every game so far Sent from my Redmi 8 using Tapatalk
  3. that was a shocker of a tackle at the end, surely thats months on the sidelines Have to say Super six has been decent, hopefully more players get game time at the pro sides in the near future
  4. A wins a win, but we should be getting the try bonus against Zebre. We just seemed to lack control at 9/10, and didnt have any pace in attack. Defence was ok and we never looked like losing but wasnt great. Also think we missed Dempsey or Fagerson at 8, Wilson has been good at 6 but didnt havce the same impact at 8.
  5. Glasgow Warriors (v Zebre Parma at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, Saturday 1pm British time): C Forbes; S Cancelliere, N Grigg, S Tuipulotu, R McLean; D Weir, G Horne; J Bhatti, J Matthews, O Kebble, L Bean, R Gray, A Miller, R Darge, R Wilson (captain). Substitutes: F Brown, B Thyer, E Pieretto, R Harley, T Gordon, S Kennedy, R Thompson, S McDowall. Few changes for this weekend
  6. The one good thing about Whitehouse is he is equally bad for both sides, which is an improvement on the normal refs that just give Leinster / Munster / Ulster everything. The seethe from the Ulster fans when he dared give Glasgow penalties in Belfast was refreshing
  7. My biggest moan about Gilchrist is that the only time he is noticeable is when he is giving away penalties, which seemed to be quite often. Granted you need players to do the unglamours grunt work (and nothing worse when your a forward when its the glory hunters that hang out the rucks waiting for the ball that get the plaudits) that goes unnoticed, and tbf I never noticed he was playing vs Italy or France Its the test squad for the Tonga match as no English or French based players are available.
  8. Apologies the BBC missed Watson off the squad list! Updated now. 2nd row is the worry I wouldnt even start Gilchrist, never mind any of the others. Hopefully Cole starts before Kinghorn at fullback (infact anyone other than Kinghorn at 15 please) I've not seen anything of Savala too comment, but getting in ahead of Weir and VdValt there must be something to him
  9. Steele is 28, Horne and Velacott 26, they are not youngsters who are going to improve hugely from the experience. The best players we have (Russell, Hogg, Gray etc) all made their debuts about 20-22 and were establish first choices by about 23. By 26-28 if your not starting for Scotland your only going to be a bit part player (project players excluded). Im not saying they are bad players, there good club players and good players to have as part of the squad, they are not though and are not going to be world class players and as we have a small group of players we need to identifying and managing properly any players that have that potential edit to add....While I was waflling on someone else seems to agree Scotland squad Forwards: Matt Fagerson – Glasgow Warriors – 13 caps Nick Haining – Edinburgh Rugby – 8 caps Hamish Watson – Edinburgh Rugby – 41 caps Rory Darge – Glasgow Warriors – uncapped Dylan Richardson – Cell C Sharks – uncapped Jamie Ritchie – Edinburgh Rugby – 27 caps Luke Crosbie – Edinburgh Rugby – uncapped Grant Gilchrist – Edinburgh Rugby – 45 caps Jamie Hodgson – Edinburgh Rugby – uncapped Rob Harley – Glasgow Warriors – 22 caps Marshall Sykes – Edinburgh Rugby – uncapped Zander Fagerson – Glasgow Warriors – 38 caps Oli Kebble – Glasgow Warriors – 8 caps Murray McCallum – Glasgow Warriors – 3 caps George Turner – Glasgow Warriors – 17 caps Fraser Brown – Glasgow Warriors – 54 caps Stuart McInally – Edinburgh Rugby – 40 caps Pierre Schoeman – Edinburgh Rugby – uncapped Jamie Bhatti – Glasgow Warriors – 18 caps Backs: Rufus McLean – Glasgow Warriors – uncapped Damien Hoyland – Edinburgh Rugby – 4 caps Darcy Graham – Edinburgh Rugby – 19 caps Cole Forbes – Glasgow Warriors – uncapped Sione Tuipulotu – Glasgow Warriors – uncapped Mark Bennett – Edinburgh Rugby – 22 caps Matt Currie – Edinburgh Rugby – uncapped Sam Johnson – Glasgow Warriors – 18 caps James Lang – Edinburgh Rugby – 6 caps Kyle Steyn – Glasgow Warriors – 1 cap Jack Blain – Edinburgh Rugby – uncapped Blair Kinghorn – Edinburgh Rugby – 25 caps Ross Thompson – Glasgow Warriors – uncapped Charlie Savala – Edinburgh Rugby – uncapped Ali Price – Glasgow Warriors – 42 caps George Horne – Glasgow Warriors – 14 caps Jamie Dobie – Glasgow Warriors – uncapped
  10. We'll need to agree to disagree, i thought he was one of Glasgows better players on Saturday. Yes he made a couple of error's but he is still young, and learning at this level. However both him and Thompson have that certain something that all the best players have where they almost look like they are playing at a different speed to everyone else as they always look like they have loads of time on the ball. I think Dobie is a more of an .all round SH than any of the others
  11. On the backrow, Darge may get pushed further down the pecking order, https://www.iol.co.za/sport/rugby/springboks/sharks-star-dylan-richardson-to-play-for-scotland-in-november-internationals-4f5145d0-3fc1-4e5d-ba75-833ffdad3b27
  12. After Graham, McLean is the inform winger with the Scottish clubs, I cant remember the last time we had a winger with his sort of pace. He has a great chance of starting vs Tonga if we are without our English based players opposite Graham. I would have Forbes at full back for that game. Forbes gets better with every game also, and I would have him on the test bench to cover the back 3 for the bigger games. Darge was man of the match vs Ulster and his performances have been excellent in every game so far this season. Obviously Ritchie and Watson are the men in possession of the jersey's but I hope he is in the squad to get some experience as he has a bright future. Im assuming Thompson will start the Tonga game at 10, and im also hoping we cap Dobie this autumn as well. He has stiff competion from Price, Horne and Velacott, but I think he has the best all round game.
  13. Scott Cummings out for 6-8 weeks after surgery to hand injury. Thats a blow of the AI's. Glasgow team for this weekend, that back line looks good, would rather Tuipulotu in for Grigg, but players cant play every game now so good to have Grigg in for a run. Glasgow Warriors (v the Lions at Scotstoun, Saturday 3.05pm): C Forbes; K Steyn, N Grigg, S Johnson, R McLean; R Thompson, J Dobie; J Bhatti, F Brown, M McCallum, L Bean, R Gray, R Wilson, R Darge, J Dempsey. Substitutes: J Matthews, B Thyer, M Walker, R Harley, M Fagerson, G Horne, D Weir, S Tuipulotu. Unavailable for selection: Simon Berghan, Sebastian Cancelliere, Scott Cummings, Zander Fagerson, Oli Kebble, Tom Lambert, Kiran McDonald, Ewan McQuillin, Domingo Miotti, Ali Price, Ratu Tagive, George Turner.
  14. Dundee Utd have signed one this week so potentially there is a chance. I dont see the harm in it. We dont have a game this weekend, hopefully Duffy is aware of where we need strengthening. It depends who attended, I wouldnt be suprised if there are a few players kicking about that were holding out for higher wages, didnt get signed, that are now re-assessing their wages demands after kicking there heels for a few months. Would be interesting** to see who was in the team. **interesting in a I dont have anything to do this afternoon so would use up an hour googling the players sort of way
  15. I critisied Danny WIlson last season, but he seems to have turned it around over the summer
  16. thats well harsh, its more the SHarks player attempts the tackle without the ball and gets bounced Although given the obsturction he gave against the sharks at the scrum below its probably evened itself out
  17. Some start by Glasgow, although have to remember that the SA internationals are missing at the moment, but hopefully we get the points on the board
  18. Thanks, hadn't thought of that Sent from my Redmi 8 using Tapatalk
  19. In the stats im sure Glasgow had something like 60% possession, and something like half of the tackles of Ulster, they were by far the better team, just undone by some costly mistakes. Anyone know what has happened to the Argentinian lad at stand off? I thought he would be ahead of Peter Horne in the pecking order?
  20. There will be the odd player kicking about in the lower leagues or non league that would be willing to make the jump to FT though. Obviously its not a huge pool of talent, but there will be the odd youth player released by premiership clubs who didnt get a FT club, or late developers looking to take the step up. It all depends if you have the right contacts. Also if we can play on our recent history of giving youngsters a chance or giving players a 2nd chance we should we should be seen as a decent option.
  21. I quite enjoyed him last week, he seemed to be doing as much as possible to rile up the Ulster fans, although we will probably be on the receiving end this weekend
  22. Got the same, not sure what to do about 2nd game yet
  23. I've watched a few of the games and thought the standard of play has been really good, however im not sure the standard of the players is that great (if that makes sense). The last game I watched, (Ayr vs Heriots i think) you had Nairn and Thornton as standouts, even though they never made an impact at Glasgow. Hopefully it helps bring the youngsters through, and there has been a good crop come through towards the end of last year, and it looks like the standard of coaching is decent
  24. Velacott and Graham were excellent for Edinburgh, who as a whole played some excellent rugby, but also some dreadful stuff as well. Style seems much better under Blair, just needs some work on defence. questions on why Kinghorn was at 10 when Lang and Vander Walt are available, but ball in hand he is excellent, but defensively is so poor. TBF if you had been given 2 bonus points away at Ulster, and a BP win at home to Scarlets before the games started you would have taken it, so I would say a good opening weekend
  25. We lost that rather than Ulster winning. However positive signs and 2 points on the road is not to be sniffed at. We definetly looked better once Weir went off. I just dont think he fits the way we play.
