  2. Its different for a Penalty advantage compared to a scrum advantage. On a knock on you would get probably to the next breakdown or if you have gone more than 5m past the advatage line. 3 or 4 passes if you haven't crossed the advantage line isn't really an advantage. On a penalty the advantage can last quite a while, ie 2 or 3 phases depending on whether it looks like you will score or not
  3. I wonder if the stadium which currently doesn't have a senior or junior team could be Scotsoun where Glasgow Warriors play (just because I cant really think of any other) which would be a possibility as they will have a 3G pitch and tend to play most games on a Friday night anyway

  5. I would like to put it down to the fact that Froome and Sky target the TdF each year and don't seem to have any interest in the Giro or Vuelta. The majority of the other riders are going to be at a disadvantage in that they are racing much more, don't have the training, resting, backroom staff etc that Froome does and also the whole Sky team are all geared towards TdF whereas other teams don't have that focus. They are not coming in tired from riding in the Giro, or worrying they wont be ready for the Vuelta. My assumption is that Nieve, Henoa etc would have been training specifically to keep Froome in Yellow in the alps, hence why they were strong in those climbs, would Sky with all their resource have them in the team given this was there only purpose? You look at a lot of the teams, and they have a spread of different types of riders, dedicated sprinters and lead out guys, TTers, climbers, guys that will get in breakaways, teams with 2 guys as team leaders etc - Sky don't they have team to ensure that Froome wins and that is the focus. There is no one trying to get in breakaways, no one looking to win a sprint finish etc. Either that or he's a doper, but either way Sky bossed it an no one else looked like getting close. My biggest disappointment was that no one tried to attack earlier, from the few attacks there were, these were all on the last few km of the final climb of the day. There needed to be earlier attacks to put the pressure on Sky, if one of the GC attack on the 2nd last climb for example that would have weakend the sky train, but no one seemed willing to give it a go.
  6. I thought it was just the cyclists that have asthma
  7. I had been thinking about the Sky team, and as quite a few will be representing or have represented GB at the Olympics and other countries as well I am assuming, would some of them not having been caught out by now? Plenty are also competing on the track as well, so surely there is testing there as well. In saying that though did Armstrong not compete at the Olympics at some point? I know he won a medal at some point but not sure whether he actually competed during his TdF winning days
  8. Cant believe the form Cav is in this year, after spending some time with the GB track team. I thought he was pretty much done the last couple of years as one of hte top sprinters but has been amazing this year
  9. Have to agree he would get nowhere near the team now given the options we have, but at the time we had no other options at 10. Not his fault as it lookd like he always did his best, but just wasn't good enough
  10. Dont know if its just me, but I quite liked the strip of tartan down the side on the last one. Not sure on having a plain blue front, but the design on the back
  11. Hopefully Argentina get whitewashed in the rugby championship then!
  12. Japan are 2 places below us in the world rankings, both games were potential banana skins, but we've come out of them with 2 wins, which given where we have been the last few years is a huge positive. A good portion of this team, played the 14/15 season, then straight into the world cup training camps, WC, then season 15/16 without a decent break. They could all do with a month or so off, but they are going to get a week or so and be back in for pre-season training
  13. The best draw would be, i think Connaught / Exeter Glasgow Scarlets Bordeaux / Castre Tier 3 is a nightmare though any one of, Leicester, Montpellier, Ulster, Northampton, Tolouse and Scarlets
  14. Nope its the teams that finish in the top 3 places during the group stage of the last world cup that get automatic qualification regardless of whether they are tier 1 or not - Japan and Georgia this time round as an example and last time round we had Samoa as second seeds in our group. If England or Italy for example had finished 4th behind Fiji or Romania they would have had to qualify fr the next world cup - although im sure it would have been made extremely easy for them. For example the 3 PI teams are near guaranteed qualification as they are playing in a 3 team group and the 2 winners qualify, last place plays off against the winner of the other oceania group (Cook Islands, Vanuata, PNG etc) to enter the repachage tournament against the other teams that didnt qualify directly for the last 2 places which they should win. The qualification process is a joke to fair, and seems to be changed every year to suit agenda's
  15. Hadn't realised it had been changed to May, but yes the top 4 countries in the world rankings are the top seeded teams 5-8 second seeds then the other 4 teams that finished in the top 3 in their groups are third seeds. Current Standings as follows - note Fiji are 10th but still have to qualify 1 (1)New Zealand 96.10 2 (3) England 88.50 3 (4) South Africa 86.03 4 (2) Australia 85.43 5 (5) Argentina 82.87 6 (6) Wales 82.49 7 (7) Ireland 81.96 8 (9) Scotland 79.50 9 ( France 78.09 10 (10) Fiji 77.14 11 (11) Japan 75.89 12 (12) Georgia 73.57 13 (14) Italy 71.57 So at the moment the seedings would be NZ, Eng, SA, Aus Arg, Wal, Ire, Sco Fra, Japan, Georgia, Italy And you just know we would get France
  16. After Scotland's win over Japan and France's loss to Argentina, Scotland are now up to 8th in the World Rankings. We just need to stay above France until after the autumn internationals and we will be 2nd seeds at the world cup (top 8 are the seeded teams) So same results this weekend, then in the autumn France play Samoa, Australia and New Zealand, and we have Australia, Argentina and Georgia - I would image that this would be one win each so should see us keep 8th unless we take some drubbings off Australia and Argentina
  17. I was in a bar in Orlando last week and they had the Brazil Haiti game on, it seemed to be on 2 different channels as well. To be fair I think we were the only people paying much attention to it though
  18. To be fair I would give all of those examples as forward passes, however as with most of the laws of rugby they are open to interpretation by the ref and are usually not clear, ie taking the video's above they could all be classed as Forward passes or throw forward from the definition below the section used as an example are only to give clarity not the sole definition Law 12 Knock-on or Throw Forward LAWS OF THE GAME RUGBY UNION 2016 82 DEFINITION: THROW FORWARD A throw forward occurs when a player throws or passes the ball forward, i.e, if the arms of the player passing the ball move towards the opposing team’s dead ball line. EXCEPTION Bounce forward. If the ball is not thrown forward but it hits a player or the ground and bounces forward, this is not a throw forward. KNOCK-ON A knock-on occurs when a player loses possession of the ball and it goes forward, or when a player hits the ball forward with the hand or arm, or when the ball hits the hand or arm and goes forward, and the ball touches the ground or another player before the original player can catch it. ‘Forward’ means towards the opposing team’s dead ball line. If a player in tackling an opponent makes contact with the ball and the ball goes forward from the ball carrier’s hands, that is a knock-on. If a player rips the ball or deliberately knocks the ball from an opponent’s hands and the ball goes forward from the ball carrier’s hands, that is not a knock-on. EXCEPTION Charge down. If a player charges down the ball as an opponent kicks it, or immediately after the kick, it is not a knock-on even though the ball may travel forward.
  19. Its something I hate about the professional game, is the blatant forward passes not being given as the ball left his hands going backwards. IMHO it doesn't matter, if the ball goes forward at all its a forward pass. I know its hard to spot, unless you have a line that the ball crosses. I've not seen the incident in question, but sounds like Barnes may have got it right (which obviously would be a first!)
  20. Live on ss3 at 5.45 a win would see us into the semi's I think but you never know with the weird way they run these tournament s
  21. By the sounds of things LS were expecting the sru to send a full team of 1st team players and LS were only going to pay for a few pro's to supplement that and the sru quite rightly were having none of that
  22. The 7's team have improved immensely as the season has gone on, and its just a pity its finishing now. To think that it was the England team that gained qualification to the Olympics, we are now (well the last few tournaments anyway) by far the better team. Its just a pity the Olympic squad was selected so early or there would have been a few more Scots in it. It was an excellent performance from Scotland, just hope we can keep up that standard going into next season
  23. I think its brilliant, and for a one off of £30 its amazing value, for me £20 a month for sky sports and the same for movies is not value for money as I dont watch it enough to make it worthwhile. If you watch loads of TV and are happy to pay Sky / VM or dont have a decent internet connection its probably not for you I still download all the TV at US time, pop it onto a memory stick once a week and thats my viewing sorted with no worries whether the usb port on my tv is going to accept file types etc. Anything im desperate for the next episode I can usually get on Exodus I dont get much time to watch that much sport anyway, most things I would be desperate to watch are either on Alba (any Ayr game that is likely to be shown or the majority of Glasgow Warriors games) or BBC Scotland but i will sit on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon if im not doing something and watch whatever sport I can find on the box. My usual issue is the kids watching youtube video's on the laptop / ipad using up all the internet bandwidth rather than not being able to get a decent stream. Also you can usually get decent streams for movies if the mood takes me, and its also great for finding movies / cartoons for the kids to watch
  24. I think the SRU has to be a bit smarter with the 7's team. Granted this season has gone a lot better than the last few years, we haven't managed to many cup appearances which makes the next tournament all the harder. We are ranked at 11 in the world at 7's and after last week we are pretty much now on a par with England and France (who were boosted by a home tournament) and way above Wales and Italy and Ireland are an irrelevance at 7's USA and Kenya are the only teams above us you could question but they don't have the rugby skills we do, they are just getting better athletes which makes a difference in 7's, you look at the standings ands its the Southern Hemisphere 4, 2 Pacific Island teams, USA, Kenya, France and England, so its not all doom and gloom Standings 1) Fiji – 166 points 2) South Africa – 152 3) New Zealand – 145 4) Australia – 127 5) Argentina – 107 6) USA – 100 7) Kenya – 95 Samoa – 84 9) England – 82 10) France – 75 11) Scotland – 65 12) Wales – 46 13) Canada – 35 14) Russia – 26 15) Japan – 21 16) Portugal – 20 17) Brazil – 2 18) Zimbabwe – 1 19) South Korea – 1
  25. To be fair we haven't had many guys come through the 7s team yet the team is currently ranked 8th or 9th in the world the same as the 15s and that is with us, Canada and Kenya all being focused on 7s. It's not great but better than some other countries
