The downside of Rangers going out of existence is that from now until eternity, Celtic fans will assume that all diddy club fans used to be Rangers fans and only started supporting Motherwell/Hearts/St Mirren/whoever in summer 2012.

Sadly everybody is too terrified of being labelled as the one who killed Rangers to actually do anything about it. Like a group of vets who know they should put a fatally injured dog to sleep but are afraid of its braindead lump of an owner coming round and lamping them one.

Blimey - are these people actually aware that there are genuine reasons why their club is being punished? Do they just blind themselves to it? Or do they genuinely believe Rangers should be allowed to do whatever they want with no consequences? It really is incredible that what is purely and simply a business can inspire this kind of blind and unquestioning loyalty (plus, of course, money) from so many people. I know some people say football is their religion but that is scarily close to the truth here.

I don't understand why Celtic can't just slip Rangers a few quid to get them back on their feet. They're effectively business partners, and despite the facade of rivalry both clubs' success, not to mention existence, is entirely dependent on the existence and success on a similar level of the other.

What really gets on my tits is the way the more braindead element among the Sregnar support (that'd be the majority) are viewing this as some kind of unfair and unjust attack on their club, and handing buckets round as if it's some sort of natural disaster that needs a collection to relieve the suffering. Sregnar FC brought this entirely upon themselves through greed and chasing an impossible dream.
