Thomson did work when he was on the pitch but these occasions were so far and few between I was delighted when he left. Roberts is a waster. He has talent but he's one of these guys who doesn't have the self discipline required to take advantage of it. Hartley tried and failed there, but then has any manager ever been 100% correct with his signings? He gets far more right than wrong that's for sure. The statement that he has one of the biggest squads and budgets in the league is just guff.

As an outsider i have to say that this looks like an incredibly shit appointment. Hopefully for the sake of the Rovers I'll be proved wrong. I imagine that a lot of the Raith supporters are feeling like I did when we appointed John Brown, completely bewildered.

The manager did indicate that he was hoping not to have such a large turn over of players this close season so on that basis I'd expect most of the guys who's contracts are up to be offered new deals. However from what a club official tells me there is very little chance of O'Dea staying. That doesn't disappoint me in all honesty.

Holt - Jury's out. Thought after all the hype he'd be better however prepared to give him the benefit, UNDECIDED
Konrad - Not bad on the ground or reading a game but gets knocked about anytime he faces a physical player. DON'T RATE
O'dea - Too early to judge
McGowan - Does more good than bad.Get's an attack of the vapours when in sight of the opposition's goal though. RATE
Low - Not a fan. Irritating player. He may be out of position but I'd struggle to think where you'd put him. Flattered to deceive when he came on against the Fermers
Ross - No, just no. Really what does he offer? DON'T RATE
Stewart - A real surprise. I thought he'd be a bit part player but he offers something different. RATE
Harkins - I don't care that he doesn't chase back or left his man at a corner once (allegedly). Played in his proper position can create opportunities and Score. RATE
Hemmings - He scores goals but isn't just a poacher. RATE0 -

I'm interviewing your former player Stevie Pittman the ex us international tomorrow who played in the early nineties and was wondering if any of the older fans had any anecdotes, or memories of his time at the club

All I can remember about him was that his style of play could be described as "Whole hearted". I think he went on to play more games for Thistle than us.

Can anyone pass judgement on Kevin McBride? He's joined Airdrie this evening and will play tomorrow against Annan all being well.
In my opinion he's a great signing for you, especially at that level. He is never flustered, can read the game, break up the opposition attack by being in the right place at the right time and can make a telling pass. However he's not, by some distance, the best player I have seen at Dens.

Yes. The club have been working on this for a while. It is to commemorate the anniversary of the start of the Battle of Loos (25th September 1915). Four battalions of the Black watch were involved including the 4th, Dundee's own, which sustained horrific losses. The beacon on top of the Law memorial is ignited on the anniversary of the battle every year.

Come across this bizzare wee German documentary about Tomas Konrad and the Dundee derby. Not a clue what it's saying but it's got some great footage of Wednesday's game.
Basically it speaks about the derby in particular and makes quite a bit about the teams being from the same city, even the same street, but despite that they have their own stadiums. My rudimentary German translates the text under the Video as " It is a totally Special Derby; when the players from Dundee United stroll the 50 metres from their own stadium to that of their of their local rivals Dundee FC they don't have to run any gauntlet then the derby in the east Scottish city can be classed as the tamest in the World" Obviously this is a literal translation but although they make a lot about the geographical closeness of the clubs there is a bit about the passion of the fans. They give some details about Konrad's early years in the game and say that from being an unknown in his own country playing in the fifth tier he has moved to the top division in Scotland. I find Thomas's comments harder to follow but in essence he also mentions the passion the fans show at Derby time and says that even when he first arrived in the city the taxi drivers, people in restaurants etc would tell him how important it was to win against their local rivals. He also mention the difference between playing in the regional leagues back home and playing in front of 40,000 at Celtic park. United's Goalies blunder for the first goal in the Derby is commented on as "supporting the cliche of "British" goalkeepers". The piece ends up, as you probably guessed, with fans of both clubs together commenting on the fact that the rivalry is generally left in the stadium

Don't you kid yourself. A good few years ago an ailing Scottish football club was bought by a foreign national. At the start he appointed 4 directors who would run the club while he was out of the country, one of whom had been my best man when I was marrried. Their personal stakeholding in the club was small with the vast majority of the shares being held by the owner. At first he put some cash in and the club was promoted to the top division but when it became obvious that this did not result in a huge revenue stream with an associated profit margin this guy quickly lost interest and the club was promptly relegated. After that he made very few visits back to the club and left it to sink or swim under the stewardship of the 4 directors. They made a decent fist of it, paying off bills by occasionally putting their hands in their own pockets, reducing the outgoings and overheads and were in a position at the end of the season where there was enough money in the bank to pay the salaries and bills over the close season. One of the bills was a rather hefty payment to another club as a last installment on a transfer fee for a player who had been signed while the owner had still been interested. They had tried to approach the owner to offer to take the club off his hands but that proved difficult as he was out of touch for months on end, often reported to be in South America "on business". Anyway, a few days after the final board meeting when the relatively happy state of the club's financial position was reported, who should turn up in the city for the first time in ages but the owner. He made one visit which was to the club's bank where he withdrew all the money in the account and b*****ed back to the country from whence he came. My pal and the others then had to run around getting the cash to pay the bills and make arrangements to do it through other sources than the club's regular bank in case the same thing happened again. The club was eventually sold to another party but this was delayed as the four directors fought to get the money they had put in over the time they had been in charge back.
This is a long winded way of saying that these guys don't opperate by the same standards as most of us do and you better believe that if there is money lying around there is every chance an unscrupulous owner will lift it. I'll leave it up to you to decide whether you think Mr Massone is such a person.
