  1. James DeGale has vacated his IBF super-middleweight title. My first thought was that he was maybe moving up for a rematch with Badou Jack.

From reading a couple of different sources though: one thinks that it's to challenge for Billy Joe Saunders' title at middleweight and the other thinks it's because he's deep in talks with George Groves (putting the Super Series final in jeopardy).

  2. The WBA now saying they've waited long enough for the Joshua-Wilder fight to be negotiated and they want Joshua-Povetkin organised with immediate effect.

Gut feeling was that we wouldn't get this fight immediately. Thinking that they'll both fulfill current mandatory defences (Povetkin & Breazeale); then maybe one more early next year before a more conveniently timed summer fight at Wembley. Will be built up over a longer period and more dates to choose from (for Wembley itself and American TV).

Lemieux won’t be getting a world title again. It will be Derevyanchenko against somebody for the vacant title.

Derevyanchenko & Jacobs are the top two otherwise in the IBF. Wonder if Hearn will push for the title shot or the Canelo fight for Jacobs.

On the Whyte-Parker fight, obviously a decent fight with guys of good name value. But it seems to me that it takes Whyte further from a mandatory title shot. He's knocked back the chance to face Pulev for mandatory status for the IBF title and is now passing up the WBC final eliminator. So to get a shot at Wilder he'll now be behind Breazeale & Ortiz, potentially Joshua if the fight gets made. For getting a shot at Joshua, he'll be behind Povetkin, Pulev & any potential unification fights also. Could be well over a year by the time that's sorted out. Only thing I can think is that Hearn has promised him the opportunity for a Joshua rematch as a voluntary defence sooner than that - but there's a lot of sorting out to be done in the heavyweight division over the next year or so.

Kevin Johnson must be the size of a driving range these days.

Shannon the Cannon, as ever, would be funny.

Just looked Kingpin up and surprisingly he's boxed 5 times since Joshua. 3 wins and two defeats (one a TKO to unbeaten Peter Milas in March 18 and the other a UD loss to Pulev in April 17). Having seen that, wouldn't be surprised if it's him since he's staying reasonably active. Will probably be a bit of a punchbag that will hang in there for a while against Fury.

Has Fury announced who he's fighting yet?

    Not that I've seen.

Warren apparently slipped up at one of the press conferences and said Kevin Johnson's name. Talk of Shannon Briggs too.

Fantastic fight, real high level stuff. As much as Lomachenko was in charge, I had it level going into 10. Thought Linares nicked rounds effectively at times.

Great movement, footwork and hand speed from Loma all fight though and the body shot was a beauty. Didn't even see it on first viewing.

I thought very similar. Whilst most of Lomachenko's round wins were clear, I thought Linares was nicking just as many. Started to look like a procession after about 3 rounds until Linares scored the knockdown. Thoroughly enjoyed it though.

Wondering what his next step is. Bob Arum seemed to suggest a unification with Beltran would be more likely than Mikey Garcia. I can't see him stepping up too many more divisions and the power he felt from Linares might be a bit of a reality check. If he were to beat Garcia, I'm not sure he'd entertain many more at lightweight. There aren't any major names at super-lightweight (at the moment) either. They might try and convince Crawford to come back down one or get to a catchweight for a proper 'Pound for Pound' clash.

WBC belt is being contested between highly rated Frenchman Nordine Oubaali (14-0) and Thai fighter Petch Sor Chittapana (46-0), that fight may take place as a first round contest.

Would be good to see Rodriguez, Burnett, Tete, Inoue/McDonnell winner, Payano etc all enter.

Inoue has a agreed a deal in principle, dependent on him beating McDonnell. They said they'll speak to McDonnell if he gets the victory.

Decent start - even if you get 4 no-marks as the remaining quarter finalists/unseeded fighters then once you're through to the semis we've got cracking fights on our hands.

  8. Looks like the next Super Series is in the bantamweight division.

Manny Rodriguez has been interviewed to say that he's staying in London for the announcement and that the 'other champions' will be involved too (Ryan Burnett & Zolani Tete at the moment, WBC is vacant).

Can only find that it’s being shown on showtime. Should be able to find a link.
Didn’t realise Usyk v Briedis was free in box office, quite confusing but certainly not complaining!

I couldn't seem to find one of the quarter finals of the cruiserweight series on ITV Box Office when it was free (can't remember which one). But I think I found out after it that it wasn't shown live.

  10. Anyone seen anything about Spence Jr. vs. Peterson being televised? Was hoping it'd be on Sky Sports as he's been linked with a fight with Amir Khan.

I see Jorge Linares is on BoxNation the following Saturday - disappointing for me but I'll hopefully get a stream. Usyk vs Briedis to be shown free on ITV Box Office on the same night.

So Wyatt is a women and Ballor now appears to be a pumpkin. Words fail me

I try not to take it too seriously and just enjoy it for what it is these days; but this feud is genuinely making me consider why I watch anymore. It's been an utter shambles and the matches don't exactly back it up.

  12. I can't say I think there's a racial issue in managerial recruitment in England but if there is genuine belief that there is, how will the 'Rooney Rule' solve it? Isn't it the case that most managers are sought out, rather than brought in for an interview (at the higher levels, at least)?

How many more black managers will we see because they're entitled to an interview? If the person making the decision is genuinely racist, they still won't appoint them anyway.

  13. I guess we're expecting a total massacre from Owens on the special?

Good way to write him out. Maybe won't be the most technical match but I'm still looking forward to it if that's the case. Watching Owens brutalise someone is good on its own.

  14. Of course the PPVs are live. That's the whole selling point of the network. Think they are also available on demand about an hour after it finishes airing

Excellent. I'll probably get it then. I'd usually watch the PPVs the following evening after work, barring one or two which I'll stay up for.

  15. Hoping someone can answer a couple of questions for me because I don't have much knowledge of the Network.

In terms of the new PPVs, are they on at the set times only or can you watch on demand whenever you like after it's been shown live? I'm thinking the same question for the TV shows too really. I know there will be on demand content there but I'm more thinking about the new stuff.

  16. I'm not so sure that Randy Savage would've liked Hulk Hogan to induct him. It's all about the publicity I suppose.

Another thing that annoyed me about Raw, why did they keep saying that Savage was maybe going to be inducted on their own show? A strange way to do it.

Overall, I'm delighted he's going in but a bit sad that we won't get to see his acceptance speech. Would've been eventful, no doubt.

  17. The Cena promo at the start was awful. If he wins the title he'll just go home and there'll be no champion on Raw or Smackdown. So, the same as now then? Also, the champion is never on Smackdown and Cena is rarely on it whether he's champion or not. Plus, the Authority would just either fire him and/or create a new champion. Doesn't he remember becoming champion when CM Punk left? I know you should suspend logic a bit for wrestling but I felt that writing was just totally senseless.

Reigns' promo was awful too. I'm not a fan but they're giving him absolutely nothing to work with. I still think they're determined to work him into the main event at Wrestlemania to beat Brock Lesnar. I'd be much happier if it were Daniel Bryan vs Lesnar though.

Surely the 'fired three' will be back for the Royal Rumble match. Ziggler has to be there.

  18. The Interview

Some decent moments. Usually enjoy Seth Rogen movies for a laugh but didn't find this that funny. I think the controversy surrounding the movie will be kind to it in terms of people wanting to go and see it. 5/10.

    Gone Girl

Enjoyed it mostly. Agree with the above post earlier about the meeting between the two main characters being annoying. Struggled to like anyone at first but it grew on me. Nice twists and kept you interested but the ending left me quite dissatisfied. Don't want to be too picky so I think I'll just edge it up to 8/10.

  19. On the subject of the Wyatt Family just briefly, does anyone else think they missed the boat with D.Bryan joining them that time? What I mean by that is, do you not think they should have developed the story for a lot longer period? This would have then made the climax where he turns on Wyatt absolutely fantastic. I mean the pop they got in the steel cage when he did turn back to a face was great, but imagine if this had been done months down the line and it all came to a head at a PPV, it would have been much better. I sometimes feel that along with absolutely killing some story lines & wrestlers with their planning, they also are guilty of not giving a story enough time to fully develop and suck the fans in. That particular one sticks in my memory as being a missed opportunity. Anyone else agree?

I think they were pushed into a rushed finish on this because of the very vocal reaction to a Wrestlemania main event not involving Bryan. So they wrapped the Wyatt story up pretty quickly to get him involved.
