  1. Tynecastle 2-3 Sauchie East of Scotland premier league. Entertaining game under the lights at Meggatland. Sauchie scored and had a man sent off inside the first couple of minutes. No idea what the red card was for. Tynecastle were then reduced to 10 following a heavy challenge in midfield but managed to equalise just on half time. Sauchie started second half stronger and scored a couple of well worked goals to go 3-1 ahead before Tynecastle pulled another back with a header from a set piece. Crowd of 448 made for a good atmosphere in a one of best grounds at this level. Great place to watch football.

  2. Spartans 4-0 University of Stirling in lowland league. This one was over by half time with Spartans playing well and being aided by the Uni keeper having a nightmare. Spartans 4th goal was probably the pick of the bunch. Second half was bit of a let down with a red card for Stirling number 2 being the only thing of note. Decent crowd considering how cold it was.

  3. Haddington Athletic 4-3 Sauchie Juniors. Thoroughly entertaining East of Scotland premier league game. Haddington took the lead early only for Sauchie to go 1-3 ahead with 2 well taken goals and a bizarre 3rd when Haddington keeper kicked a clearance off the Sauchie number 9 and the ball looped up over his head into the net. Haddington managed to get it back to 2-3 with a great strike by  their number 8 just before half time. Second half continued to be end to end with Haddington taking their chances when Sauchie couldn’t. Well worth £7. Great set up at Millfield and always seems to more improvements every time I visit. Good to see they are issuing a programme again as well.

  4. Linlithgow Rose 2-1 Bo’ness United East of Scotland Qualifying Cup. First competitive derby in 3 years between these two teams. First half Bo’ness were miles in front but missed numerous chances including a penalty before Jones scored a great goal to put them 1-0 up at half time. Linlithgow made changes at half time and were much better in the second half and ran out worth winners.

  5. Leith Athletic 4-2 Armadale Thistle King Cup 2nd round. Friday night entertainment under the lights at Meadowbank. Penalty aside first half was all Armadale who should have been more than 2-1 ahead at half time. Leith much better in second half and ran out worthy winners. Lovely strike for 4th goal. Both sides reduce to 10 at the end but not sure what either card was for.

  6. Broxburn Ath 8-0 Vale of Leithen

Easy win for Broxburn against a very poor Vale team. Broxburn’s second and third goals were pick of the goals. Only 105 in attendance but suspect miserable weather put a few off. Vale looked like they would struggle in division below and don’t think their slide through the divisions will stop next season on this evidence.

  7. Musselburgh Ath 3-1 Penicuik Ath. 2nd v 6th in East Premier League. Musselburgh were better team in first half and should have been more than 2 ahead at half time. Penicuik better in second half and got game back to 2-1 before a dubious (from my angle anyway) penalty for Musselburgh secured the win.

  9. Bonnyrigg Rose 1-2 Annan Athletic.

All the goals in the first half in this one with Annan opening the scoring with what looked a soft penalty. Bonnyrigg equalised a couple of minutes later. Annan’s second was a result of some nice football from Chris Johnston,  who looks like he could be playing at higher level, and a good finish by Goss. Second half became a bit scrappy as rain came on. Bonnyrigg have covered the seated area since I was here last and seem to be making gradual improvements which is great.
