  1. Waspie, If 50 extra fans because of the lack of Clach go to ICT games- an average of 15 home games a season- Average gate prices £24.00.

That would be worth £18,000 a season. ( Not including Merchandise, and Catering money)

Bearing in Mind the average youth player costs around £9,000 a season.

Say after 3 seasons one of the six youth players paid for by the addition revenue is a special talent.

    An english club Pays £ 1 Million for him. !! !!

 Another Point proved by the highlander.

Except the logic that Clach going under means 50 of their former fans start following ICT is seriously flawed ;) .

Cheers for info RayBees, I did wonder if it would be down to Clach being less of a power as time went on. Does anybody know if Citadel and Clach were rivals?? Again that would have been a pretty local rivalry.

  2. Ive been wondering what the biggest rivalry was in Inverness back in the pre-merger days. People always seem to talk about Caley - Thistle but going by the honours lists Thistle were the third power in Inverness football with Caley and Clach well out in front. Geographically Caley and Clach would also have been more local than Caley and Thistle, would Caley - Clach not have been a bigger rivalry? Or was it that Clach were poor in the last decade or so before the merger and as such the Caley - Thistle rivarly grew?

  3. Do you think there kicking themselves now ? Having a football club that makes profit is rare as well as ICT could gain an extra 300 maybe from Clach fans at their gate.

do you go to ICT games now ?

I take it you havent read this thread highlander?

I very much doubt Clach are "kicking themselves" now. And they dont even get 300 fans at their games anyway.

  4. Just reading Highland Hundred at the moment and an interesting point in Inverness football history. 1937 sees both the end of Citadel (the 4th Inverness club) due mainly to the fact that their Shore Street ground attracts little spectators (now who in their right mind would buld a football ground in that area of town?) and a proposal from Clach that they should merge with Caley to form a new club called Inverness Celtic. The proposal is rejected by the supporters of both clubs.

Must admit I also had a wee chuckle when I read that piece about Citadel in Highland Hundred...a club going out of business due to the exposed position of their ground then when SFL football finally arrives in Sneck 60 odd years later their ground is put in an even more exposed spot nearby  . Were there more houses in the Harbour area back in those days?? Hard to see where their support would really have come from the way that area is nowadays. Clach just over the river as well. Citadel would have been my local club...surely time for a Citadel FC Memorial Thread?? Any club nicknamed the Sheeps Bags or whatever it was surely deserves a thread :P

  5. Murray finishes no better than 10th in the list and indeed would drop a place if either Nalbandian or Baghdatis wins the tournament. Still, considering he missed a chunk of the season including two majors he did very well to even get close.

Indeed, disappointing he has fallen just short after his storming finish to the season but as you say it was a fine achievement to come so close given he was out for a few months (and missed probably the part of the season from which he would have been aiming to get a lot of his points). If he can stay injury free next year he should be well capable of going into the top 10 and consolidating there.

  6. Didn't make Schiehallion today, for the simple reason that Mrs AT's waters broke in the early hours and we rushed to Crosshouse Maternity unit.

I have a daughter now, which means we can stop there at one of each. :)

Will be a few weeks before I can consider any more hillwalking. :P

Congratulations AyrshireTon, there's two nippers who will be getting dragged up hills in the the years to come ;)

  7. Me and the old man went up Dumyat before an Alloa game a year or two ago, you can start in Menstrie from where there is a really steep ascent up through a gorge which cuts a load of time off the the walk. The path takes you right up onto the path to the summit. Only took us 2 hours max all round. There is some great walking in the Ochills.

  8. Isn't it the case that there is 2 ranking systems used by ATP

One such as you have described and one that I was going on about?

Yeah, the ATP Rankings (traditional way and system used to calculate world number 1 plus seedings for tournaments) and the ATP Race. The Race sees every player start the season with 0 points and at that end of season shows who has the been most succesful player for that season...that wont necessarily be the world number 1 though in the Rankings.

You cant have been talking about the Race though because previous years points dont come into that ;)

Even in the Race though points are still based on 18 tournaments...the grand slams, 9 atp masters and other 5 best tournaments.

Murray is currently 13th in the Rankings and 10th in the Race. But effectively he's 13th in the world.

....and he's just taken the second set 6-4 :D

  9. You lose any ranking points gained more than a year ago, so tomorrow Murrays ranking point will be 1650 - 175 (the number of points he got for winning this last year) + however many points he gains from this weeks event (175 if he wins tonight, 120 if he loses)

    I think thats correct

Dont think its quite as simple as that....the ranking is made up the top events (grand slams + atp masters events) plus your 5 other best tournament showings of the previous year. So while Murray's 175 points from last year (as one of his 5 best other showings) will drop off they would be replaced by the points from his 6th best tournament. So even had he gone out in the first round here he wouldnt have lost 175 points...would have lost a fair number but there would still be a few from the previously 6th best showing. If he ends up losing tonight he will get the 120 plus the points from that previous 6th best now 5th best. Clear as mud

Karlovic takes the first set on a tiebreak :(

  10. After all that, Nadal just got humped by the guy Murray beat in the US Open!

Nadal was a shadow of himself though, he was throwing in unforced errors all over the place. A great contrast to his match against Murray where there really werent many cheap points at all. Credit to Gonzalez too, great performance.

I would agree with the argument that Nadal is an excellent player, the best of the rest, but Federer is on a level above (look at the way he just demolished Andy Roddick!).

Good to see further Scottish success at the Aussie Open...

I know this kid, my dad and his dad have been playing tennis together for years and I remember watching him play when he was really young. Hope he continues to progress, next couple of years will be crucial.

  11. Maybe you're correct, but I don't think Nadal will be world number 2 at this point next year. He had a start to the season last year, he won everything on clay but once the season turned away from clay he struggled.

He is young and will only get better on grass and hard courts, but is a player who has a decent ( but no better ) record on the non-clay surfaces really be consisdered world number 2?

I think so, like Stewarty says he has far more about his game than Roddick. He is awesome on clay and should once again clean up the big titles on that surface over the next few months. His game is also pretty effective on hard courts and as you say he will only get better on that surface. Guys who were as good on clay but weaker on other courts have been number 1.

I think Murray on todays performance would have beaten almost anybody but Federer or Nadal, it was genuine top class tennis and thats whats so encouraging despite the defeat.

  12. Here to help.

Not really convinced fitness had much to do with it, Murray himself has already said it wasnt an issue today. Nadal has more experience and on a few of the big points it showed.

Overall though an excellent performance by Murray, if he keeps working hard and improving he can have a very good year. Anybody who calls him a bottle merchant probably knows nothing about tennis.

  13. Just finished Thirteen Moons, novel about a young white boy who lives amongst the Cherokee Nation around the time of their forced removal into the American West. An excellent book and highly recomended. For light relief I then quickly read Heartfelt by Aidan Smith, an account of the year Smith (a Hibee) spent following Hearts. Not as good as some reviews had suggested but entertaining enough at times.

  14. Can't say that I'm to sad the little scruffy, English hating c**t is out :)

I dont recall Murray ever saying he hated England  He just dared to have a laugh and say he hoped the English football team were knocked out of the World Cup, which obviously makes him a narrow minded racist nazi

Great effort by him over the last couple of weeks and no shame in last nights defeats, he was always going to run out of steam at some point. Hopefully he can now go on and make a serious impact at the US Open.

  15. Bloody typical that he does that when I'm working and have no way of keeping up-to-date! <_<

Great win for Andy - if he plays to his capabilities he'll be in teh top 20 by the time the US Open comes along :)

Thats him through to the third round in Cincinnati, that in itself should put him into the top 20 should it not?
