I know he's right footed but I think he's played as many games on the left. Certainly played more games there with the reserves. I'm guessing he enjoys cutting in and shooting.

That's a good point regarding Walker though. The only time WG looked woeful at RB for us was when Kai Kennedy did him for pace constantly. Hopefully Walker has the same effect.

If he plays like first 45 last week, he will give most something to think about. I know he was up against an out of position us jacobs but he gave him a hell of a time every time he got it. I think a goal or an assist will help his confidence no end.

For me young Lewis has to start, he’s best we’ve got

Can we just forget about the sign. It’s not going to affect our attendances. I wouldn’t mind if we just got rid of it.

I had cause yo ring Palmerston twice this week and was dealt with politely and efficiently. If someone went across town though we should have been open til 4.30.

Having seen the last 3 games I think we are improving each time. Marv is doing a great job. We look fitter, better organised and are padding well. Of the new signings Mimnaugh has looked terrific. My one worry is goal threat, provoked by that terrible goal shy East Fife game. We need to sign 2 good quality forwards from somewhere.  1 a big physical forward and one a goal scorer at this level. If we don’t do this and soon we may struggle. It’s imperative we get off to a fast start. Defence is 100 percent better and midfield looks strong, and that’s us with Gibson, Wilson, Brydon and Church to step in. I’m really looking forward to Saturday but edgy on the goals for front.

We’ve scored 7 goals in 4 games, not a bad return. Don’t get this goals cry, you the problem v East Fife was creating the chances not putting them away. I think we had one chance all night.

Stevie Wonder could see we need a goalscorer. Knowing that and finding one are different things though.

Need to create chances for a goalscorer also. We created absolutely nowt clear cut. Looked a tired team to me. Defence comfortable enough, I like wee Logan but killing us having two right footed players down left hand side. Todd sits out for me, so many backwards passes and slowing game down compared to Minmaugh who is clever and progressive, don’t get me wrong there’s a couple of wayward but least he’s the balls to try it. Walker needs a bit of work, Mckechnie needs to drive at players more often, causes havoc when he does and it’s doesn’t happen enough. Connelly busy without doing much. Tbh I thought reilly was isolated tonight. Fair play to east fife though organised and frustrated us all night.

please send Ross Irving out on loan

  4. Sounds as though there could well be an incoming before Tuesday. As much as I’d have liked to see the likes of young Currie get a chance, our bench is very light in numbers as it is. You also don’t want to through these youngsters under a bus, I know for EF a division below, but Austin will cause issues and pretty sure Sheppard is alright as well.

Hopefully Church will be on bench maybe get a late cameo. Not sure on how rest are recovering. The only blessing with the suspensions is the players getting a rest, especially HC who has previous for injuries. A big player now that we don’t want to be without.

We lost possession more often when Botterill went long. A combination of us having absolutely no height up front and his poor kicking. We never got into any real trouble tonight playing it out from the back, more slack passes.

They'll only find it easier if they continue to try it. I'm glad they had the balls to persist with it tonight and this is the way football is going now. Thankfully the days of just hoofing it up the park are nearing an end.

For me it's better to least attempt and build from the back compared to almost definitely losing possession by thumping it up the park.

    Bang on the money.

Reilly's goals last season (adapted from reports, videos and my own personal recollection of the 2 goals I actually saw in person):

13 Aug    Airdrie (H)  close range shot at far post from low cross

1 Oct     Alloa (H)  low shot from tight angle on the left of the box after chasing long ball forward from defence

8 Oct     Airdrie (A)  from close range when cross deflected onto his head and went in via crossbar

12 Nov    Alloa (A)  flicked near post header from edge of six yard box

19 Nov    Montrose (H)  stooped header from around a yard out

What's interesting to me is that the goal on 1 October was the only one where he used what is left of his pace and ran with the ball, and that was also the only one he scored from outside the six yard box.  So of his 5 goals, 3 were headers (one of which he didn't know too much about) and four were very much down to him being in the right place at the right time.  So maybe the low cross tactic isn't going to reap too many rewards if Reilly is our go-to number 9!

against Livingston I thought he looked sharper than at any point last season. He did come nursing an injury so may have played a part. We can say what we want on here but at this moment in time the gaffer is extremely pleased with GR and he is our best option at this time by a mile

Not sure  if Reilly will get us goals in fact who will .

Marv next few signing are  crucial says he has a couple of loan options maybe time to use them.

Might depend on how serious the Brydon injury is he may have to add another centre back.

Have asked this does anyone have an idea when Church will play for us he is the one player who never gets a mention on saying that Kennedy has done very well as his replacement .

Gav has came back in excellent nick and gaffer extremely pleased with that, a massive season for him but I think he’ll have a point to prove to the doubters. Saying that we definitely still need other options.

Regardless of Brydons injury I think another centre half was needed. It’s just magnified it.

As for young FK I’d love for him to get a chance if needed but he’s very slight, although by reports it’s not affected him so far

Good run out with a mixed squad tonight. Our finishing was pretty woeful in the first half and Gretna could have had a couple themselves. But we appeared to be in control regardless. Took full control in the second half and it was a comfortable win.

Watching the trialist out wide my thoughts are he looks like one of those players who could be anonymous for 85 minutes then come up with a bit of magic to win a game. Really loved him running at players and he looks pretty rapid. Possibly tired in the second as he rarely touched the ball.

No. 9. I thought looked hopeless early on. Looked pretty clueless and had a very poor touch but then he completely settled and I thought he was the best of the 3. He could/should have had a hat-trick and had he we'd be screaming for him to sign. Thought he held it up well and linked nicely. His finishing wasn't great of course but he was getting into the positions.

Thought the boy that scored was the least impressive of the 3 oddly enough. He never really had much of the ball tbf but again when the chance game he buried it well.

All 3 are absolutely worth another look at and I'd expect them all to feature on Saturday. Every one of them were head and shoulders above the ones I watched at EK which is a positive.

Would happily not see any of the two striking options again. We badly need our last 2/3 signings to be of quality, not making up numbers which I feel them two would. Thought the winger looked good in spells as you say but a few times over done it especially when cutting inside which he won’t get away with against league one sides and the like. I think there’s a player in there that could be coached.

on last night was fully expecting more knicker wetting but it was nothing more than a training game. Hard to gauge anything on it tbh

For the first 25/30 minutes it looked as though we were going to ship 5/6 goals without reply. Midfield was non-existent. Despite it being a meaningless friendly MB obviously didn’t want a hiding and he introduced Connelly after about 30 mins, re-adjusted the formation and then made good changes at HT. We did pretty well after that and created some good chances  at least one of which should have been taken.

My early thoughts are that I like the two keepers, not sure about Houston, thought young Foster did well for his first game,      midfield is very short without Todd and Wilson, desperately need another striker. As others have said Trialist 15 is a very obvious signing target and may have other potential offers. His pace was outstanding and despite having limited time on the pitch he made things happen. Sign him now please or risk losing him.

Also Reegan Mimnaugh missing. None seem to be overly serious which is good news

Made a late cameo on left of a back 3. Was only on for ten mins but saw him win tackles, header and find a team mate with a pass, it’sa start lol. Certainly a big imposing guy and showed a little bit of pace too.

I rated him in middle of back 3 but he kind of lost his way. I think there’s a player that could do a job in there though

  11. Thought today was a very worthwhile exercise against a well organised experienced side.  It probably took us 25/30 mins to get remotely into the game, we struggled with big nouble and midfield runners but once the trialist (eze) got hooked we started to come into it and cause some problems. We will learn a lot more from our side playing games like that than playing nobody’s. Cochrane and Gav were standouts for me today, a thankless task upfront for gav but he done every he could pretty well. Logan at left back when he came on also did pretty well. Mckechnie needs some finishing training 1 of the 3 chances he had, he really had to be taken. Taken into account also the players missing as well, I think there is encouragement to be taken. We still need the 3 players most fans are quoting positionally and if we can get them and players back in fit, I think we may be in decent nick.

On the trialist I thought he looked to have something, well worth another look. Think he must’ve been on trial at Livi before today giving the high fives before the game and Martindale running across to high five before he came on (nice touch).

Class from big ayo applauding the fans he didn’t get to play in front of as well. I’ve no doubt he’d have been a cult hero if he did.

Think that's a good opening fixture. I reckon Alloa will be right in the playoff mix again this season so it'll be a good marker to see where we are right off the bat. A couple of 'relegation candidates' in there as well so we could be feeling content by the end of August or really concerned again.

On paper good chance to get points on board, but similar feeling last year so apprehensive to get ahead of ourselves.

Thought he was good at end of season but another young player and not a forward. Almost saying we can't be sure about Houston fitness.

Possibly to accommodate a back 3

     Houston McKay Brydon

    Logan.                     Church

Maybe not but effectively got two first choice right backs now. Can’t complain, but giving our supposed ‘budget’, seems a strange one. For me a left sided defender, winger and striker/s needed.
