Made a late cameo on left of a back 3. Was only on for ten mins but saw him win tackles, header and find a team mate with a pass, it’sa start lol. Certainly a big imposing guy and showed a little bit of pace too.

I rated him in middle of back 3 but he kind of lost his way. I think there’s a player that could do a job in there though

  2. Thought today was a very worthwhile exercise against a well organised experienced side.  It probably took us 25/30 mins to get remotely into the game, we struggled with big nouble and midfield runners but once the trialist (eze) got hooked we started to come into it and cause some problems. We will learn a lot more from our side playing games like that than playing nobody’s. Cochrane and Gav were standouts for me today, a thankless task upfront for gav but he done every he could pretty well. Logan at left back when he came on also did pretty well. Mckechnie needs some finishing training 1 of the 3 chances he had, he really had to be taken. Taken into account also the players missing as well, I think there is encouragement to be taken. We still need the 3 players most fans are quoting positionally and if we can get them and players back in fit, I think we may be in decent nick.

On the trialist I thought he looked to have something, well worth another look. Think he must’ve been on trial at Livi before today giving the high fives before the game and Martindale running across to high five before he came on (nice touch).

Class from big ayo applauding the fans he didn’t get to play in front of as well. I’ve no doubt he’d have been a cult hero if he did.

Think that's a good opening fixture. I reckon Alloa will be right in the playoff mix again this season so it'll be a good marker to see where we are right off the bat. A couple of 'relegation candidates' in there as well so we could be feeling content by the end of August or really concerned again.

On paper good chance to get points on board, but similar feeling last year so apprehensive to get ahead of ourselves.

Thought he was good at end of season but another young player and not a forward. Almost saying we can't be sure about Houston fitness.

Possibly to accommodate a back 3

     Houston McKay Brydon

    Logan.                     Church

Maybe not but effectively got two first choice right backs now. Can’t complain, but giving our supposed ‘budget’, seems a strange one. For me a left sided defender, winger and striker/s needed.

I dunno. I can recall us having a good few trialists a few years back (either Connolly or Scott) and they were dugmeat. Not that any of today's looked at all impressive but back then it felt like there were loads of them.

Again, I maybe missed all these golden chances EK had (I was behind the goal and had the black net as well as the poor view to contend with) but I didn't think either goalkeeper was particularly worked. They had a couple of blocks/chances that never fell for them in the second half but I didn't think they cut us open again and again. I thought the defensive side* was far more impressive than our attacking side today.

*Particularly when we had a youth and a trialist in defence each half.

Trialists are always more miss than hit, especially at this level. Not losing sleep, I’m imagining Marvin has it under control. Seems more than calm about things. So much so he’s in Romania at moment

Suspect due to transfer activity so far we'll not see East and McGrory back, two I'd have been happy enough to re-sign.

Meh on both tbh, both bang average last year. McGrory I really hoped would kick on but never done anything of note considering how much he struggled for game time under MB though him moving on was inevitable, and east was a bit indifferent albeit still not in a totally familiar position. I’d take him but only cause I feel we’re missing a left hand sided defender to cover for church.

Obviously just a pre-season friendly in June, but the poor quality of the trialists was the most disappointing thing for me (and Wilson getting injured again). Number 10 the best out the lot in the second half, although not sure even he looked first team quality. I know who he is but I’ll not name him here.

Some of the new signings had decent games. McLelland looked decent next to Brydon and vocal when one of the trialists wasn’t pulling his weight tracking back. Houston played well also, as did Mimnaugh. Played a 4-2-3-1 both halfs which I suppose could be an indication of Bartley wanting to move away from the 3 at the back this season.

Or it’s a formation most players have used previously and easy to set up in. Think it will be more of 433/352.

I get being despondent but there’s a lot of changes and a lot of youngsters/substandard trialists. 2 first teamers missing, one going off after 10 against a team that are spending a lot of money. Players also had a tough week of pre season and the game is very early. To get 45 mins in each of there legs can only be of benefit.

I think bargain bucket is mainly all you can afford. We thought we were losing Kalvin Orsi to you this summer but your offer wasn't that much more than he was on with us (so I'm told) and given he'd have been required to chuck his other job it's not worth it for a lot of part time guys. I think thats why you're seeing a few younger guys who are looking to take their chance at FT like Doherty, guys like Orsi who are experienced and set in their part time ways need more convincing.

Partly this, and partly I think Marv has a model he’s following, seems to be targeting certain types that he can develop along with the team. As much as it’s not exciting for us, I’m willing to give it a chance. He improved us no end last year with a crop of players who were struggling, so he deserves a crack at it with his own team. We need another 3/4 signings and they need to be crackers imo. Left hand sided defender, winger and striker/s

You're right but, unfortunately, it was as a wing back, which I think is even more difficult. The lad didn't stand a chance.

He had played right back the previous season to little success by reports. By time we even considered him at centre half his confidence was shot. Genuinely felt for him last year as you could see he wasn’t comfortable out right

Pre-season last year I was very confident we'd do well (think I even had us down for 1st). I'll be honest, so far I'm not confident at all (other than in the manager's ability) so I'm hoping for an opposite outcome again.

That’s how I’m feeling, never been so flat after signings. So hoping for a positive outcome

You've missed Iain Wilson. Plus Ben Johnstone and Jay Burns albeit they have 1 first team appearance between them.

Personally I wouldn't list either McKechnie or Gibson as forwards but I guess others might. I wouldn't be worrying about the recruitment just yet.

Given how poor we were last season I'd be delighted if McGuffie can be bang average for us next season tbh.

Sounds pretty like for like with Connor Murray. Who performance wise was very meh, but his actual numbers were pretty decent, if we can get similar numbers from McGuffie will be pleased tbh.

  13. Another 4/5 signings then squad be about complete. Looks like Marv is targeting younger players again, we could really do with 2/3 proven players but he obviously has faith in his ability to kick these players on. Not writing any of the players off, full time training could be making of Doherty, he’s one I fancied when he left Albion rovers clearly hasn’t worked out since but hopefully we can kick him on again. McLelland played for hibs reserves down at Palmerston and he absolutely strolled, looked miles ahead but I guess it was easy to against lesser opposition.
